Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's**New Maps at start of thread**

Hey guys,

I've really hit a brick wall with this area of the gunport. I've still not got my workshop done or access to any of my kits so I've just been checking kit scan images etc.

Just can't seem to find stuff that matches these query parts. Thought the Bandai 8ton was good for the four cylinders ( ?c) for a few seconds then saw the MF ones have four ribs whereas tthe 8ton ones have 2.

For part of ?b I was looking at the Airfix 1/76 25 pdr as the end of the towing legs is quite close. Also the Bandai 1/48 Valentine has a very close match for ?a but I'm not 100% sure.

For those of you with greater brains and kit archives than I do, any chance of bringing some firepower to bear so I can update the relevant map?

Cheers
Nick

Here's a part from the cooler 32" falcon that was probably scratched to match a part on the 5 footer. It looks to be from a tiger or similar.

Blasphemeeeeer :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

I gave you a hint...

Eh, sorry. You know how it is. That 32" model is so sucky, I thought your green highlighter was part of the actual paint job. :behave :lol

Nowhere did he say there were 2 32" Falcons made.

He did! He did! He said there was a cooler 32" model! So there has to be a suckier 32" model too. It's logic!

(I mean, he couldn't possibly have meant that the 32" model is cooler than the 66" model. That would just be silly.) :lol

In other news, I've had a Bandai 1/15 Panzer IV sitting in my bedroom for the past week, still in its shipping carton, unopened. Haven't had time. Will be interesting to see what's in there when I get a moment to crack it.

COOOOOL MATE! I have wanting to see that kit not just for the Falcon but for the Y.
It must have been a torture not having time to investigate that monster kit:lol:lol

Thanks Rod. Must track down a sprue scan for that Valentine.

No need mate, here ya go!:
First, the parts that go on the top and two from the bottom turret:

And the sprues with the hull of the tank that is cut off and goes in front of the turret's plexy glass:

I think there are some cylinders that match some of the ones seen on the top turret but have not checked it out yet.

Bandai Hummel arrived and I affirmed two docking ring pieces. The third one I had a question mark by is not in the kit. I updated my own map with the new parts and slightly adjusted measurements. The Matilda has a barrel that is SO close to the last bit we need. You could even get away with using it if you wanted to. :cry

Starbord Missing Parts map was updated too. It doesn't look like Panther was used, so you're correct Stu. And I pulled out the M8 but that's not it either, Martyn.

The cast plate used around the waist and seen in MF014 definitely contains Tamiya Panther A. The back edge of the part is trimmed off. I'd love to know the last kit or two for that group. Anyone know any Galactica builders, since it's reused on that ship?

My docking rings are on their way to the 3D printer. I can't wait to start gluing pieces! Maybe a build thread will be in order soon.

Here is a little ID I made thanks to Y-Wing iding, it is

WOW! You have my unending thanks, Eric! That is the last ID for the inner ring. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

And here I've been looking at gunbarrels and wheels rather than an actual TURRET.

:cheers

Wow guys, great progress.

I have a stack of new Tamiya and Bandai at the post office awaiting collection. Can't find time to open the kits I've got, nor to pick up the ones just arrived! It's killing me!

If you just want to send them to the US, I will gladly open them for you, Martyn. :lol

My postman loves me not! February was an expensive month having received 23 kits.

LOL.

Mine hates my guts. Used to get on well - he's a fellow geek - though he'd take up too much of my time chatting. (Never comfortable with that when there are people in line behind me.) Then there was an incident about two months ago involving some of these packages and he hasn't gotten over it. Me, I'd let it pass but he won't even make eye contact. Jeeze! :lol

Just looked through the Panzer III and spotted these. Almost all the way there with the rings. :)

On a side note, I didn't know until tonight that Tamiya had an ordered list of the 1/35 series on their website. :facepalm I think any kit between #1 and about #80 would be fair game?

Complete list of Tamiya products - 1/35 Military Miniature Series

Great work on the rings Craig, bet you can't wait to get the 3D parts to assemble.

I have a small leaflet that Tamiya thoughtfully put into their 1/35th military range after reaching the 150 models mark. That was 1991 when they reached this point. It's very useful as it has all the serial #s & pictures of the completed models in order. I'm still not clear though, as to why the Duster & Sheridan are not listed, obviously donors for the Falcon during the original build?.

Guy's, amazing ID's going on here, just incredible.

Hi Guys,

Wow! This thread is awesome.

In MF014 - the FalGal plate . . . part #5 is from the Tamiya 1/25 panther, not 1/35.

I think Jim Key at Custom Replicas may still be selling these plates from his Galactica project . . . . ?

The Complete Works of Tamiya Volume 1 states that there are two different series for 1/35 scale.

One series was called the “Military Miniatures series 1/35” and kit no. 76 (British SAS Land Rover “Pink Panther) to kit no. 92 (British L.R.D.G Chevrolet) were released in 1976 and kit no. 93 (SU-122 Russian Assault gun) to kit no. 101 (German Flak Panzer IV Mobelwagen) were released in 1977. The first armor released in this series was in 1970 (British Army 6pounder Anti-tank Gun, kit no. 5).

The second 1/35 series was called the “tank and armored car series”. The M42 Duster (kit no. 27 released in 1970) and M551 Sheridan (kit no. 31 released in 1973) were part of this series. Kit number 46 (British Army Chieftain Mk5) was the last kit released in 1976 (August) in this series. The Russian KV-II Gigant kit no. 47 was the only kit released in 1977 (February). The first kit in this series was released in 1961 (German Tank Panther).

I’d be happy to give further information on any other Tamiya kits in this book. Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks for that info. Is that book in English? I guess it's OOP but a couple Japanese sellers have it. It would be a good resource to have.

Yes, you are right. I put the piece side by side with the Tiger II. Although the 1/35 definitely has the correct shape it is too small.

Raiders, thanks for that info, always wanted to know what the heck was going on with the Tamiya MM range. That book could be just the ticket.

Imperious, 1/25th Tamiya Panther eh?, another big kit to add to the list then. Thanks fro the info.
