Harry Potter replicas/collectables - Rare, promotional, and otherwise

Re: Rare Harry Potter replicas

Well rare to me means not easily obtainable or found. You can't find most of the Japanese stuff besides the wands, even on ebay. The european market is huge and easily accesible with the net, the fact that you can't order from the Japan site limits the amount out that made it into the world market. So unless you fly to Japan a lot or have a jet handy I consider it a rare find.

The one on ebay is one of the sets I already sold :). I checked worthpoint and couldn't find a set listed and most of the items I got were the same way. If anything there was maybe one or two over a several year time period.

But yeah it's not hard to get in Japan, although my friend lives there and had no idea it even existed, so I guess you would still have to know about it.

They also weren't as many made as would be something that was distributed around the globe. There is Noble stuff everywhere. So the numbers are smaller. Additionally a lot of the stuff on the site is actually sold out, headboy pin, Golden egg music box, MBOM journal, etc are sold out so that would make them additionally hard to get.

As for prices, I paid a $100 just in shipping for this stuff, not including all the fees and taxes which was about another $100 so if you're there locally yeah it's a lot better deal but that is the same with anything really.

Re: Rare Harry Potter replicas

... Or you make friends with folks from Japan using this thing called the Internet. ;)

I personally don't consider the Japanese stuff rare (at least until it goes into the retired list), but it's good to know for your list. I have the Noble "false" locket (before they made the actual Slytherin one). I'm wondering if the new version has the note from RAB in it. If not, it could probably make the rare list.

Re: Rare Harry Potter replicas

Well I basically research an item and find out if it is still available, then how easily, then what kind of mark up from the original price is it going for etc. I add in a lot of other factors as well.

The new locket doesn't come with the note. The cave locket is not in production and not readily available but it can still be found easily in Europe and the like, it goes for about double now at $100. I was actually looking at it the other day and comparing it to the original and noticing that at least half the glyphs are incorrect. Such an easy thing to get right yet still they manage to screw it up.

And yes you can make friends in Japan but for most people who just use the internet for surfing and shopping, I'd say that is a more advanced technique. And one which definitely takes time to build and establish since their is money involved. We on this forum are a bit more resourceful than the average bear.

Re: Rare Harry Potter replicas

I still think it's a pity that I never got to make a fully functional Golden Egg with the crystal and all. Would've been cool and made a damn nice prop.

Lawyers suck.

Re: Rare Harry Potter replicas

Yeah, you did all the cool props for the park if memory serves me right. It's apparent with all the replicas that they are more concerned with the money they'll make than accuracy, but that is a typical corporate mentality.

This is a list of stuff that has been made, to use for reference, although I do have quite a bit of it. I am still compiling and haven't figured out how to do pictures yet. I want to do it like Hinky did on her paper props page.

These seem to be quite rare; you rarely ever seen any of them for sale!

Well technically they aren't replicas since they aren't seen in the movie, just HP themed toys. Although they definitely are amongst some of the cooler offerings. That said, I have run across them in my research. They were put out by Mattel for GOF, seems mainly overseas that I see them.

:unsure Oh yeah! I don't know what I was thinking...I guess I'm always thinking in terms of collectibles, in general. Sorry about that!

Awesome stuff, here is some of mine. Got lucky with a frined at some of the premieres, got Richard Harris auto before he passed and the rest of the cast and a friend in England got the mini broom signed by Warwick Davis and other goblins guys. These paper props were some of the first I found back in 05/06

Well that is an interesting question, there is a lot of confusion?? on that subject. One sold on ebay for $3800 back in 2008 I believe. A non ebay site said they recently sold one for over a thousand and then another one for $6450 on 7/1 but there is no way to verify that. Then there was one on ebay last week that sold for only $810 and it looks to be the same people so it is really hard to say. The last one on ebay also said there was only 16 of them which I find hard to believe. If so then I personally would know where over half of them are which seems unlikely to me.

Hey everyone,

I placed an order last week on the Artefact Boxes with a friend of mine since he owns his own Fantasy Shop. And he also had one vertebrae candle replica from the Noble Collection. Which is the same they sold last week for 810 dollar, but are they really this valuable? I've got mine for way less since he and I are friends. Can't wait untill he sends them to me.
Can somebody confirm that the Noble Collection ones are really this high in value.

Well I can confirm the one that sold last week for $800 and the one that sold in 08 for $3800 is on Worthpoint so they can be verified. Also I can confirm they were only sold for a very short time by Noble. You can use the Wayback machine and see they only sold them for about 2 months. So if nothing else they are hard to find. As far as value goes, it is as it always is, it's worth what you can get someone to pay for it. If he's got another one he wants to sell for what you paid, hook me up :)
