Deprecated GOTG: Star Lord's Map Gun (done)

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

Definitely interested, pending photos.
I'm interested
You mentioned a battery plate, but to confirm, this is cosmetic, correct? No LEDs? I'm interested either way. Put me down and I'll make payment soon.
Hi guys, I am awaiting your reply to my PMs. Would you please get back to me regarding your spots in the run. I need you to connect with me asap. THANKS!

Omg, that test print... Wow. Count me in.
My apologies, I completely missed your post but I have you covered and will send you a PM shortly.

I had no idea this tread even existed! How did I miss it? lol. And here we have been talking through PMs this whole time. Put me down for one absolutely!
I already had you down as per our previous agreement!

Very Interested!
I'll take if you can squeeze me in on this run.
PMs incoming.!

Hi Joe,
Could you post a photo of the modified grille for us to see?
Thanks
Absolutely, I'll have a couple photos of where I am at in the process this evening hopefully. I've so far done 6 full bodies and a whole mess of plates, buttons, bezels and grilles. (Been running the printer 24/7 for the last 6 days. It's gonna need an overhaul after this project, haha.) I actually ended up doing most parts in the silver material... it just gets better results.

At this point I am going to hold on taking on more orders until I catch up making a few more kit parts, or at least until I get a reply from those folks who still have yet to pay or make a final decision on whether they want one or not. things are going great and I'm cranking out parts faster than expected but I don't want to overreach. Thanks again to everyone!

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

As promised, here's a photo of most of what I've got printed so far, including a closeup of the final grille, which I am really happy with. Most of the parts still have the "brim" flash around them (i.e. they are direct from the machine without cleanup). Vent holes in the grille are just under 1mm (and I'm still amazed that I wrangled my machine into making them so clean). I also discovered today that brass paper fasteners are perfect for the end grille nubs!

Very nice.
Any idea on when the kits will be ready to be posted out?
Thanks

I'm still waiting on more plastic and I have quite a few more to make up... the rest will not go nearly as fast since I can't run the machine 24/7 like last week (I only run it while I'm at home due to safety reasons) but I'm ahead of schedule. I'm assuming it'll still be a a couple weeks until they ship but believe me I want them out the door ASAP.

I would at this time also wish to kindly ask that those who still have not responded to my PMs regarding their spots on the list to please do so.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

For those members who have paid would we be able to get our kits sent out since they have been made up, rather than wait until the others who haven't paid yet?

Thanks

I would say there will most likely be no delay. I have to plan my trips to the PO to send these things due to my work hours and by the time all the kits are printed and packed I'll know who's genuinely in and who isn't.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

You did an amazing job. Super excited to build this up and add some "interesting" electronics.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

Thanks. : )

Printing is coming along well- faster than I expected. Blue plastic has arrived so I can start on the translucent pieces when the opaque are done.

Due to dropoffs I've still got a couple slots open in the run.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

Sounds promising.
When do you think the kits will start to be posted out to the interested members on the list that have paid for their kit?

Looking forward to lighting mine up, maybe even trying to include a sound module!

Thanks

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

I want to have all kits out some time next week. I might (repeat: might) have a few (or even all of them) out this weekend. I need to print, sort, pack and ship these things assembly-line style. I can't to commit to an exact day because I don't control all the variables. It depends in part on how late I get home from work, when the stationary store gets a new supply of suitable boxes (I went by there on my way home and they were out), that nothing happens to the printer (like a sudden clog that needs a stripdown/cleaning) and so on.

(I know you are in a hurry RM and you paid first, so your kit will therefore go out first. I promise to them out as soon as possible.)

Myself and a few friends are having a bit of a Marvel day on the 23rd of April when we go to see Avengers Age of Ultron, I was just hoping to get the Map scanner painted up by then.

I'll try to stop being a pain in the a*se and asking for updates.
Anything you could do would be greatly appreciated and I'll be happy to get the kit even if it is after the 23rd.

Thanks again for taking the time to produce this kit for us.

No worries. You're not being a pita at all. I know what it's like to anxiously wait for something and It's gratifying that folks are looking forward to getting these things. (Hear that Weta and Sideshow? I want my Smaug, Rocket & Groot statues!)

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

Time to bump this as I've still got room.

All paid-up kits are now manufactured and packed for shippinh. Those who paid extra for tracking will be getting tracking info soon.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

All paid-for kits are now in the mail (except Soulinertia's since some other items are going in that box as well).

I have one extra kit here, boxed and ready to go out the door for anyone that wants one fairly quickly. After that, it'll be 1-2 weeks before I can print more but I'll still be doing them until my supply of clear blue plastic runs out.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

Wow that was rapid shipping! :D

The kit is amazing, anyone on the fence don't hold back, get one while you can :)

JT can you disclose what filament you used for the body? The quality is the best I've seen and it has a slight sparkle through it?

Heya! Glad it got there safe and even more happy that you like it! (Everyone in Europe should have their kits any day... those in the US maybe next week with some luck but all paid-for kits have now shipped.) I use Faberdashery filaments exclusively. I kinda like the filaments with stuff added better- maybe it's just an illusion but I think they are a tad smoother. (They do make you have to clean the machine more often though... and it's harder so see exactly how smooth it is once you get to sanding.) That said, I have no idea how it will behave in different printers... pretty sure you can get great results with Colorfabb and other makes. It's more down to settings and how you set up the prints. (Sometimes just rotating something a few degrees can make a world of difference.) I just haven't wanted to rock the proverbial boat. (My one experiment of CF went so-so.)

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

My kit arrived yesterday too and the design and shape is spot on, as with any 3D print it will take some sanding and filling to get it to a smooth surface to be ready to paint, but having produced 3D printed kits myself I was expecting some clean-up.

Joe did an amazing job with the kit, I'm looking forward to getting it finished.

I echo the earlier sentiment by Taff83, if you're on the fence get a kit now it is the most accurate fan made kit out there, short of getting a cast from a screenused prop you won't find anything as accurate.

Nice work Joe.

Re: Star Lord's Map Gun (run is GO)

Glad the kits have started arriving and that people are happy! Hoping to see some finished map guns with lights soon... maybe someone might even go the distance and stick a mini projector in there?
