Interest Clan Saber Series #6: Darth Maul

I don't know if it's the first FX Maul with accurate silver buttons (MR started the square shouldered trend with their FX), but it's the first run I've been on that has had them. I have a few of his other sabers, and the engineering design on them is really thoughtful.
The Project M buttons are spot on and it’s FX or static, but has to be a staff. They are also properly clocked with asymmetry. And it looks like Gus also nailed the buttons….which are my fav part of this saber. I’m super excited and think the media blasted finish is also a great choice.

thanks for the support
Would you perhaps run extra buttons (both metal and resin) for purchase with this, or a future run?

I know "accurate or idealized" is a hard decision to make on a run, but I'm one of those people for whom offset buttons like on the original prop would drive me nuts on something that wasn't also resin and weathered just like the original - the difference between a prop replica vs a lightsaber replica. I'm glad the community has both.

Yeah I don’t have an issue with some idealizations, they work in favor of installs and such. Can be helpful.

I thought it was pretty well confirmed the actual single metal hero initially intended for Maul (before they decided to turn it into a staff) and used for the moulds had its buttons offset, which is why the full resin staff is offset, no?

I have a question regarding the offset buttons, what is the prop referenced of said buttons?
the red and grey button are not always very well aligned on the Maul sabers. They are also clocked differently by groups of two, because I assume the saber was 4 casts assembled together, so the part could move around a bit.

Ethan and Bryan posted already, but yeah that’s the main one referenced. Also the others you can see in BTS footage on the 9 disc set from ep1-6. And the one Nick bought for the Project M as well.

I’m assuming, but, is that first shot the arrangement of yours?

Also, TY so much for being open to my questions and engaging. Can’t say enough of you for such a positive response. I wish it was always this way!!
Yes its my model with a 6 degree rotation on the top half, To be honest I hadn't really planned on making the shifted arangements, it just so happens that its possible do to the way i designed the clocking option on Side A.

And by all means ask as much as needed. It's always a learning experience for me too. Feedback & knoledge are and will always be the main reasons I come to this forum.

I had a request, that I had originaly considered before I came up with the Quick disconnect. The request was to make the end caps like the battle damaged prop (the one that with the lever)

I got the request again and i think It's doable and I will potentially be offering it as a separate upgrade kit. The kit will consist on 2 end caps that will be screwable on to the hilts and the lever with bolt. The lever is cosmetic, non funcitonal and will be screwed in place by removing the 2 thumbs (red and silver). No extra holes or any intrusive mods are required.

Id like to know if there is interest on these to know how many should I make and see if the cost is feasible. I think the cost for a set could range from $40 to $75 depending on the volume. They will be made out of aluminum and in the case of the lever it will be media blasted.
So here is my take.

So let me know if you are interested in a kit.

Thanks.

I really like that idea, and it helps your Darth Maul stand out from all the rest.

After I get the mini, I plan to get a single half for a battle damaged. I like the look of a battle damaged half, but I like more idealized props, so the lever detail wouldn't be something I'd go for.
