Is it still possible to purchase parts?
I am interested in a full hilt with weathering if still available? Thanks so much for all of your kind words everyone! I really appreciate your reassurances on time frames, etc too! It's great to hear! Thank you!I obviously won't take this for granted, and continue to work as fast as I can (without compromising on quality).
It's been an incredibly busy few days going through all the parts and checking quantities. I'm happy to say that everything is in order and I've made a start on treating the parts.
I'm expecting some more parts to arrive today, including the parts from roygilsing (WannaWanga). Really excited to see the new off-centre bubble strip.
If the coach bolt arrives today too, I'll get a mock up put together with the parts that I have so far.
I'll get another update posted tomorrow afternoon if I can, to show the additional bits and pieces.
Some other news to post with some improvements/tweaks I've been making to some of the parts based on some welcome feedback from IronDestinyProps and RoyDeckard. I'll go through this in the next update.![]()
For now though, I'm just getting my head down and getting through some of the work so that I can show off the parts in their finished state.
I did actually mean to mention this in the last update. There are still a few full hilts available. I'm not able to separate these in to individual parts unfortunately.
I did order additional Transistor/Washer sets to sell further down the line:

I'll be letting the full kits go an a first come - first served basis until they're all spoken for.
Thanks again everyone. Signing out for now but I'll respond to any DMs ASAP.
All the best,
Dave
This looks fantastic so far, can’t wait to see the full hilt assembled soon**UPDATE**
Hi everyone.
Apologies for the delay in getting this update out to you...
I’ve been incredibly busy working on finishing the various parts for the run that I showed off at the beginning of the week.
I was hoping to get a full hilt assembled shortly after that update, as I knew that the coach bolts were on their way to me. Well, that package was hit with an exception unfortunately, due to the address being filled out incorrectly by the supplier. It’s now been corrected but is still in UPS limbo awaiting a new delivery slot.
So, since the last update, I’ve just been knuckling down and treating the parts for the un-weathered orders.
The three part blacking solution is working great on the steel and the un-weathered grenades are all done!

I’m part way through blacking the boosters and spacers too which are turning out great also.

As well as working on the steel, I’ve made a start on the Inconel parts for the emitters. These are being treated in Ferric Chloride to give them more of a matte finish (as seen on the vintage parts).
Straight from the machinist, they are VERY shiny, but after a brief chemical bath, they come out looking much more like the genuine article:

I mentioned earlier in the week that I’d decided to modify one of the parts based on some feedback I received. The ring part of the wind vane should be thinner in relation to the spokes. These were made to the minimum wall thickness specified by the manufacturer, but having thought about it, it isn’t too much hassle for me to modify these myself, and I think the improvement is well worth the effort:

While we are on the subject of the wind vane, here’s a sneak preview of some initial weathering tests:

Really happy with how this is shaping up! I’ve been having a play with some of the other parts too, and I’m looking forward to sharing my progress in the next update! As soon as the coach bolts arrive, I’ll be able to put together a full hilt (with 3rd party clamp for now). If they don’t arrive today, I might try to cobble something together just to hold things in place for a few photos. I’m really excited to show how things look when assembled.
I’m really happy to announce that Roy’s bubble strips and D-Rings arrived earlier in the week too! Roy was incredibly generous with his time, and kindly agreed to make a modified version of the strip for the run. It features slightly off-centre bubbles (as seen on the original prop):

I’ve been wanting to sit down and write this update all week, but with such a long list of tasks to get through, I’ve found myself prioritising the work, with the intention of sharing my progress at a suitable point. I’m documenting my progress every step of the way of course, but the writing side of things doesn’t come naturally to me, and requires a lot of concentration. I agonise over these updates and tend to take far too long over them, so finding a balance between keeping you all up to date, and actually getting through the work is important.
Finding a suitable time to sit down and write can be tricky, but I’m up early this morning to post this before I make a start on the day.
I’ll sign out for now and continue to knuckle down! I’m not going to make the mistake of setting a date for the next update (again). I will of course continue to keep you all up to date though, and will continue to document the process for the next post.
I hope you like what you see, and are happy with the progress so far.
Thanks again for all your support, encouragement, and patience everyone! I really appreciate it!
All the best and MTFBWY,
Dave
I very much badly want to purchase one of these replicas! This is truly a marvelous endeavor. Great work! Looking forward to seeing the finished result!
I am interested in a weathered hilt, if you got any left.
I have no words that can describe how spectacular this is looking with the weathering and all of the pieces coming together as a full hilt!!! I haven’t been this excited for something in a LONG time!**UPDATE**
Hi everyone. Just a very quick update to show off the first fully assembled hilt now that the coach bolts have finally arrived!

This is still using a third party clamp at this point, while mine are still in production. It also sports a vintage handwheel top as mine haven't been chromed yet.
This has been cobbled together from several separate tests that I've been working on alongside preparing the un-weathered parts. This is still going well, and I'll be getting straight back to it now.
I hope to start getting smaller orders (that don't require clamps or handwheels) out to people over the course of the next few days.
Just a very quick update this time around, as I need to crack on with things! I hope you all like how everything's looking though.
Thanks again for your support everyone!
All the best and MTFBWY!
Dave
Thanks for sharing the updates, Dave! The parts and weathering look amazing. And your photography really highlights the hilt quite well. Perhaps we’ll see a DaveP Chronicles photo shoot comparison with the original hilt in the future!
Thanks guys. I will absolutely do a proper comparison at some point.Looks great! Although I'd really love to see the side profile of the saber, a la, the chronicles shoot!
