D9 Assault Rifle Dimensions?

:)
I think I'm getting close to finishing.
As you may have noticed, I am trying to more closely replicate the concept drawing, rather than the actual smg that was constructed.

I need a measurement to corrected any sizing issues with the smg, such as the barrel and plate butt.
All I need is the thickness of the stock, as drawn with ms paint below! :confused

Partially assembled. :)
Still need to make the "display doohicky?" (on the upper section, receiver?) and the little wing flap thingy for the rear canister.
Oh and trigger.
Oh and also the small side canisters on the barrel. :rolleyes
I'm not sure how many parts the final gun will be in yet.
The highly detailed areas may need to be 3D printed. :confused

Has already! The points you've marked out look like they're referring to the overall width of the stock just in front of the reveal/trench area. Yes? That doesn't change from the butt itself, so 49mm all the way.

CORRECTION!

Sorry!

The main part of the stock is 49mm. And so is the part I dimensioned as 49mm on your drawing, AT THE TOP, where it chamfers down to the smaller butt end.

HOWEVER, the thickness of the butt at the point with the two recessed circular "fastener" details is less than this - it's inset slightly. Same part, but different thickness. 46mm.

Does this make sense?

Sorry for the bum steer, but hope this helps.

Just wanted to chime in - this build looks great so far! I have used solidworks a bit before.. but all those stacked features and mated assemblies make me feel a lot better when it is to build something so cool. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the quick reply again Nwerke! :)
Are the measurements below for the thicknesses wat ur talkin about?
I might have to redraw the butt again :cry due to the incorrect corner geometries.

Yeah, that's the area. Sorry! Sorry!!! It's awkward: at the upper red circle, what you have represented with a continuous curve should be more heavily tapered - the radius is almost nothing at the bottom end. The butt's max width IS 49mm and at the top it blends into the rest of the stock smoothly. However, between the upper and lower circles on your image the width is 46mm - so that the area with the two bolts is slightly sunken vs. the rest of the stock.

At the top, the transition is a bit fudged, really.

Hey, you know what? IGNORE ME.

I just looked at the original AR pics on the first page again. What you've drawn represents that better than the GP stock/butt does. That's right, they're different!

The GP butt is the same basic design but executed differently. It blends right in at the top. From the art book pics and screen caps I took from one of the hut scenes, it looks like that's probably how it was on the production GP too.

Whew
:wacko
Need to tweak the red areas:
The two wings that support the canister, the area under the display, the fitment for the lower recoil damper, and the trigger.
(Forgot to include the "bolt?" at the blue circle.)

The recoil damper looks a little small relative to the gun also...hmm.

-Need the dimensions of the side canisters on the assault rifle. :angel
(I assume they are the same as on the SMG)

:wacko
Spent too much time try to get the canister wings just right. It still has a small seam issue, but I dont wanna waste too much time on a minor prob.

Only thing left are the trigger and the side canisters, which I still need dimensions for...

Some detail shots and dimensions at the end:

Hopefully that helps. The reason I took the close up of the attachment point is it almost looks like a sphere with the canister coming out of it. Pretend it can swivel around in there, if that makes sense.

Let me know if you need more pics or if I need to buy a digital micrometer.

:thumbsup RX
I kinda figured the connection points of the side canisters were spheres, from the photos in the D9 book, but I changed it to cylinders for ease of future assembly.
Thanks for the macro pics of the trigger and canisters. Luckily my guesstimation of the dimensions were fairly close and had to be only slightly tweaked.

I think the only thing left is the trigger! :)
