and finally this time sanding back; but not tooooo much. Trying to leave a very light layer of filler as a seal between the underlying epoxy primer.
last shots show the 2nd coat of epoxy primer; before I applied the filler primer over the top.

Almost a month has passed.

Only days after the last post I put more coats of colour on. Then; it just “sat”. Partly cos I was busy with other things, and partly cos I was keen to see the condition of the paint after some weeks.

In short: it’s awesome!

Take a look below. I’ve tried to show gloss/light on specific join areas. Very happy with result.

Second bit of colour now. Beginning to take form. Yay. The finish is still looking good. Might steel wool the gloss. Not sure yet.

weathering begins! Going for a reasoably dirty look this time around.
some pics of the alien graphic stickers also, just for fun. The orange parts of the stickers I'll do in -ve, spraying the same orange.

man, filling in the little channels in the gun with black takes "aaaaaaaaaages".

Bulk of weathering complete. First test fit of the top cylinders. Pretty happy. Not perfectly straight but close.

More details. Glued the top cylinders in place, a bit more chrome detail (and dirt) on the two barrel parts. More details around the upper trigger area. More grime on the lower barrel. Also roughed up the front of the gun (black area), to tone down the gloss. Left gloss on the leading 5mm of the front.

Hello Scornflake, did you make your 3d model available somewhere? I am looking for an accurate model to print. I have looked at the Onshape project but... I have to admit I have yet to sink my teeth into 3d modeling. So what I am looking for are stl files that my Saturn can digest.

I did - there's a link to the onshape model right in the first thread I think. See the OnShape link.

Go to the 'cut for printing' tab, and I think you'll see I import the complete model there before cutting it up for printing.

Thank you for your quick reply. Today, my browser finally rendered the Onshape windows - wow, that model is really really accurate, MUCH better than the ones on thingiverse. You could post this thing on Etsy and make a nice buck with it - I'd be your first customer! Which brings me to my next question - sorry but I am either blind, or there is no "cut for printing" tab displayed as long as I am not logged in... and logging in would mean a kind of subscription, apparently. But for the actual printing, you needed stl files, right? Don`t you still have those? It's a gift for someone, so I am totally willing to pay for your trouble.

What service(s) (chat) you active on? skype? messenger? Im up for a bit (another hr) - we should talk.
Skype: scornflake. Messenger (book face): should be same (scornflake) or neil@cloudnine.net.nz. Totally happy to help out :)

I've been slack. I need to post up some decent pics of the model. it's been 100% completed, painted and clear coated for some months now. I have just been slack at getting round to borrowing my friends DLSR so that I can take some *good* photos with some true depth of field. SUPER happy with the final result. And, after 3+ (errr.... probably 6+) months of being on a wall, no sign of any paint cracks across/near the sensitive areas (fillter/joins).

I decided to just post some pics, so you can at least see what I managed to achieve:

That. Is. SO. Awesome! I just went over all the reference material I could find and you managed to capture EVERY little groove, nook and cranny... totally outstanding. I hope Greg Broadmore does not come over to your house to punch you in the face for copying his work so meticulously! ;-)

isn't copying supposed to be a form of flattery? :). hope so!
