300 Spartan Costumes Interest Thread

I wouldn't even want the NECA one. From what I hear, the regular helms are grossly misshapen. On the Leonidas one, they aren't using horsehair, not even fake hair. It's a solid crest. Gross. Fan made is so much better.

Yes,but Neca used the originalmolds.Thats great for new projekts, too.I have the normal Spartanhelmet from Neca...ok,it´s not fiberglas, but for Deko really ok.:cool

So what is up with the shoulder straps he wears? Seems to me they're just for looks. I can't imagine they have anything to do with the cloak if it is held in place by the clasp. I haven't seen the movie, though. Anyone have ideas?

ohhh - those shoulder straps play a huge roll on keeping the cloat together. If your going to DC I'll show you what I mean. the pin holds on to nothing. the pin is only for looks.

Yeah the straps are a MUST for the cloak harness.

They really will keep the cloak in place and looking right at all times. With out them your cloak will be all over the place and more than likely choaking the crap out of you.

Unfortunately I live too far away to make it to DC. I've been looking at the trailers on Youtube and reference pics online and have the gist of it. Seems the straps wrap around the shoulder and connect in back across the shoulder blades. I have to assume all spartan's straps are like this. *shrugs*

Here's a sample of one of the spartans:

I'm thinking of building this costume on my own, though I don't think I'd wear it in public. You're braver than me, amigo! If I ever get it together, I'd share some pics, though...maybe. :angel

I look forward to seeing how yours turns out. Sorry to go off topic a little.

Thanks for those reference pics Skalen. My leather straps hold my cloak in place, but I have them totally wrong based on those pics. I think I'll just leave them for the time being, however. I'll just save my money for the actual trip to D*Con rather than buying yet MORE leather.

It would be really nice if like Master Replicas began a line called "Studio Costuming" where they get the same master costumers, use the same on scree materials to construct replicas of costumes, like the Spartan cape, seen on screen. It would be like Studio scale but for costumers!!!

You're welcome, bud. I'm scouring the net for image references. I may be way off and I understand what's been said above, but I don't plan on jumping up and down mountains and twirling around in place so if my cloak is fastened by the clasp and drapes over my neck, that's fine.

We should probably start a new thread so as not to derail this one. Sorry folks. :redface

The leather combo looks good and not a bad price. Several questions for you.

1) What to wear under the leather? I have my own ideas, but I want to hear from your model who wore this.

2) Will the wooden Spartan Sword fit the sheath? Dragon Con is good about the live steel thing as long as the sword is 'piece bonded' and doesn't come out. Just incase I go to a different con I want the safety to be first.

3) Is there a time limit on this offer? I do not plan on ordering this before Dragon Con, August 31, of this year since I need to get more money. However, nothing lasts forever. If it takes me until 2008 to get the funds do you think you will still be around making these?

I will forward your questions to Matt P

He reads the forum--if he responds I will post the answers

Answers for Oculus:

I'll be making them as long as I can. I'm sure my 300 product line will be around for a while. I started doing star wars belts 7 years ago and I'm still doing it.
I wore some brown sport style underwear I got from trget that worked great. It basically the same cut as the codpiece and the color is very close. I'll post the brand and where to get them on my site in the near future. Not sure if a wooden sword would fit. I'd need to know the thickness of it. The scabbard does have some extra room in it.

The Helmet looks stunning. Does he have a helmet for us regular Spartans? You know a 'non' King version? I, as well as many others, look forward to hearing back about Spartan Speedo Prices. Good work!

answer below

I will be making a regular spartan helmet if there is interest. The price will be around $200-$250.

Some of yall might have seen some 'non-NECA' swords pop up on ebay.

here's one of them

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/Tsuyosa18/Photo1-6.jpg

The blade is painted black,
It is 24.5 inches overall.
the blade is 18.25 inches.
Pros:
It will work fine for a costume as long as it's peace bound.
It has a nice weight
with modification it will look great!
It came with a sheath which does it's job

Cons:
Alot of work involved to make it look better
Proportions are off (namely the long handle)
It's a "repro" sword... thus it will probably break eventually
The sheath looks like crap and you'll want to make a new/ more accurate one anyway

I got it for $50 at the flea market so for the price it's 'OK'. On ebay it's going for more.... so i'd wait to see what else pops up.
