11th sonic progress (Update in 1st Post)

Re: 11th sonic progress

HaHa! What mad man would make 25 of the buggers by hand?

That depends, are you in a box? If so just push that button on the console and a Sonic should pop out of there from somewhere. 25 button pushes and you have it covered. If not, you will need to be a mad man with a big coffee maker and sore arms. What kind of set up do you use (lathe/mill, small units or big industrial size rigs)?

****, eBay pulled my kidney auction. I will have to go to Plan B to get one of those 25 :lol:lol:lol..

Hey Dan, do have any new photos of how yours is coming along. The last pic's I saw looked amazing!!! (like the other Sonics you posted).

Re: 11th sonic progress

everything's in pieces right now, and my shop is 30 degrees, so I'm not getting a lot of work done quite yet. But I recently got some new parts from shapeways and I think I found a plater so, give me a couple says. :)

Re: 11th sonic progress

Awesome work Anakin, looking forward to seeing more.

I got the toy version of Smith's screwdriver for Christmas from my folks. Been driving my wife mad running around the house sonicking all the things.

Re: 11th sonic progress

I worked on the prongs today. I think I've finally got them where I can live with them
The plastic slider and the screws are just a place holders for prototyping.

Re: 11th sonic progress

Curse me and my non metal making skills! To want something so bad, and no way of making it!

Great job on this.

Oh very nice sir, :eek

Giving that lathe a good work out I see :love

Re: 11th sonic progress

I want one :lol

What is the deal with that top ring (brass looking part in photo 2), it almost looks like it was cast rather than machined :confused Is that a found part? Is that what I think it is :).

Nergasm! Dayum but that looks good and the swirlies in the green make it really pop.

Do you intend to coat or polish the metals to keep the bright or will this be a "go over daily with a cloth diaper" type thing in your collection?

Re: 11th sonic progress

Can I get one for less than four grand? ;)

You can, but not THE Sonic Screwdriver :lol. It can be made near perfect but nothing any of us can make can ever have the "vibe/mojo" of one hand made by the man himself. At that point you are really pushing the boundaries of "replica".

I think most of us will have to and would rather make due with a metal 'replica' that was in fact less than four grand. Not that I don't take your meaning on the word replica. The 'mojo' that goes with discussing sonics here can have a decidedly voodoo vibe at times. :eek

Actually I would love to see more of the process of the metal work on making this 11th replica. I have a lathe, but not a metal one or a mill. I'd love to learn some of the techniques that go into this.

Re: 11th sonic progress

I'm with Calufrax. I'd love to learn how to use the software and milling techniques used to accomplish this kind of quality. I've mostly worked with wood for my customs and I feel I've reached a wall. The projects I now have in mind just won't cut it with wood.

If the topic's already been discussed could anyone point me to the thread(s)?
