11th sonic progress (Update in 1st Post)

Re: 11th sonic progress

Looks great Dan! Can't wait to see how this comes together.

Re: 11th sonic progress

At least someone is showing real progress with making this. Both Qmx and CT have offered no updates for a VERY long time, so it's refreshing to see someone with something in-hand. I can tell that an extraordinary amount of work goes into this - a real labor of love.

Re: 11th sonic progress

Thanks guys. I've got the prongs 50% done. They were a ***** because I had to have them cut out of .25 aluminum, but in the end they had to be under .236, so that meant filing each one down by hand. (It doesn't sound like much but it's a pain). I've also remade the green acyrlic parts with a similar material that has a little more blue in it and more closely resembles the faux jade Nick used. It sucked having to redo these parts but, I think in the end it will be worth it. I want to get everything just right. Anyways, so the next step will be assembling the prongs in situe and getting everything to open and close as it should. After that I will be plating the stainless parts in copper, and then I will start wiring everything up. I'm only in town 2 days a week because of work, so its slow going, but a lot of fun.

-best

It's a race! It's a chase! Who will be the first to show a new sonic in your face!

:D Sorry couldn't resist.

Thanks, guys, for keeping us updated. It's great to see things like this happen.

Re: 11th sonic progress

I want one of these so bad.
Nothing from Qmx or even CT. You seem to be the only one who has shown actual progress on making this prop, regardless if it is 100% accurate down to the scratch or not, this looks like it is going to be really good!

Re: 11th sonic progress

The 11th Doctor's sonic is my favorite - your version looks fantastic too! Here's hoping you end up making a few extra! ^_^

Re: 11th sonic progress

Yeah, hurry up and finish this already!! That goes for CT and Qmx. I just want to see someone really do this prop justice.
I am still boggled that Smith has been the Doctor for over two years now and STILL no sign of an accurate sonic replica.

Who says it's not going to be 100% accurate.:angry
Who do you think you're talking to?:lol

I recieved some new tools for x-mas that will help a lot of my builds, but also slow things down do to the need for setup. But, I'll try to keep movin ;)

I've got some new info about this prop that will help my build, and some free time off of work coming up. So I'll let you know how things proceed.

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

Dan

Re: 11th sonic progress

Did you get a mill from Santa :)?
I finally got my adjustable speed bench top band saw I have been wanting for a while. Two words, River torch/handgun :lol.

Re: 11th sonic progress

Very nice work Dan, it's good when parts just come together and work just as good, just as well your not making 25 Matt Smith Sonics by hand.

Ok show me the lathe, come on lets see.
