Yeah your so right Phez, to be the only one person to take on the 11th doctors Sonic and make a prototype that I know about is one big achievement. :thumbsup

Re: 11th sonic progress (New Pics Pg 3!)

Thanks guys. I appreciate that a lot. So, one more bit of info. I just talked with Nick and he told me that the season 7 sonics (that were used in the past x-mas special) do not have the flip up cap and button. Aparently, the prop rangler had just glued down all the caps on the old props, so when Nick made new ones this go round he just left the bottom section as one solid piece. So, I'm thinking that I might just make the bottom of this sonic like that with no flip up cap in order to expedite the build and I can always go back and add the button at a later date if I feel like it.

Re: 11th sonic progress (New Pics Pg 3!)

The cap on these is actually a pain to make because it's a very hard piece to hold. Its small and slopes and in the second stage of machining there's not much to grab. So, if it was me, and I went through all of the trouble to machine a those ******* little flip up copper caps and then someone went and glued them all down anyways, I think I'd pull my hair out and scream. LOL

Re: 11th sonic progress (New Pics Pg 3!)

Big kudos to anyone who attempts this prop. Even bigger kudos to someone who does as great a job as you have thus far.

Re: 11th sonic progress (New Pics Pg 3!)

Great work, and it will hopefully show others it can be done so that someone does a run for those of us with no prop-making skills whatsoever!

Cheers

Re: 11th sonic progress (New Pics Pg 3!)

Dan has managed to do what no other person has managed to do so far, and that’s to do a very nice job of reproducing one of your screen used props rubbertoe.

Looking forward to seeing the finished prop replica Dan. :thumbsup

Re: 11th sonic progress (New Pics Pg 3!)

Can point out physical faults, but I'm not gonna give away master replica dimensions and measuerments for free (say "YOLO" and I'll skin your first born child"). These measurements are worth a lot and there is also copyrights and legal bollocks, sorry. I would if I could, but only exclusively and I would have to trust you with my m&m's to give you this. Like I said earlier, this is a nice prototype and very ambicious of you! Keep working on it and keep me posted.
I'll do some diagrams of you are stuck with the internals or some design flaws.

Amazing build. You have no idea how jealous I am!

Question- Is there a specific reason as to why you used the sound guts from the 9/10 Sonic and not from the 11th?

Re: 11th sonic progress (New video page 4)

Wow this is amazing! I can't wait to see it all done and ready to go!

Wow! Good ear :)
The funny thing is that I actually lost a lot of hearing a few years back in a freak scuba diving thing, and the exact pitch at which I'm sorta deaf in my left ear is the sound that a sonic screwdriver makes. So, it's not much of a difference to me.:lol

It was on hand at the time. But don't worry, I've already swapped it for the 11th Doctor's chip.

Thanks guys

Dan

Here are some new ****ty iphone pics and video. It probably doesn't look like much progress has been made, but here is a new emitter lens (the translucent green version of this is currently drying, the white one is place holder that is the same size and shape). I have made new prongs and a new prong holder.

I redid the center grip, with holes in the body to allow sound to escape. This will be covered in leather and the holes will be invisible beneath the leather hide.
