Tron Legacy Costume

Ugh. The hub on the back for the IdentiDisc is going to be the death of me. Can't find anything that fits. Any suggestions?

I know how Twinight did it, but I can't find anything like that at any stores I've been to. If the lack of that "ruins" (at least in my head) my costume, I'm gonna be PISSED. Grrrrrr...

I lucked out with my kid's bucket, but it's a summer beach item, so hard to find in stores now. Have you tried looking through tupperware? Anything with a gradual taper at 4.25" dia. will do. As a last resort, I would take a polyethelyne sheet and roll it into a right size taper. Rivet the ends together and then find a 4-1/4" ring as a base to keep the disc perpendicular when seated. Cut and Flare out the ends like I did and rivet that to a plastic sheet.

Theres pros all over this forum. my suggestion is mold a clay version, cast it once you have a mold use a rubber or latex or foam, have earth magnet in it,as well as in the disc( if you want to remove and attach it), sew it or glue to back of suit:) hint hint I get 10% if it works lol everyone will want one :confused

Question to all you costume makers, what is the best ways to adhere EVA foam armor to a fabric undersuit (like black lycra), am striking all sorts of problems with this.

Tron: Legacy Production Design Presentation Part 2
For those wanting to see More Detail on how the TRON Legacy costumes were made; Please check out this link. I would die if I could copy one of the circuit boards shown, in MS. Clarks presentation. So much to do in such little time! Enjoy!

WOW that last half about how they made the suits by injecting the stuff into the molds was prop making on another level. Thanks for sharing that one. Looks like Tron will be a popular one at the conventions in 2011.

Having a tripod for no flash photos when taking pics of your costume which lights up is A MUST! such a difference with my little powershot cam sticking it on a tripod.

1st pic is at ISO400 Zero exposure makes my lights look white, as they are, and 2nd pic at ISO400 -2 exposure makes my light look blue.

I am bringing my tripod to premiere night FO SHO! ;) it is a mini so won't be a pain in the butt to haul around.

Tell me about it! I sat there watched that and felt like a failure knowing what I have done is no where near that. The perfectionist in me drives me crazy.

Well, you do the best you can do when you don't have a major motion picture budget ;)

but man, what fun that would be to have everything you need at your fingertips.... I want the MYTHBUSTERS set up! in my dreams!

Question. For the small hard to get to areas to light up Quorra's suit IE: mid-chest, nape of neck back, her boots back and front

I am considering using these SMD LED light strips. Says you can cut them down as small as 3 inches.

Only thing is, since I am not good with wiring this sort of thing, what can I use to light these small strips up? Watch batteries would be ideal in my perfect world ;) but can it be done and how???

Yes I need baby steps here if anyone is willing to help. If this works, my costume will be even more light fantastic :D

Thanks for anyone's help in advance!

How small is small? What's the total area of the piece in question. I'm looking at pics of Quorra right now trying to figure out how big it is. If you went with an EL sheet solution, they make VERY small inverters to light up decals on hats.

So if the area is just a small spot, say 5cm square we might have a winner...

If not, or if you already have an inverter in your boot, you can split the lead off and run wires to the front and back of the boot. Just to play around, I cut a piece of EL sheet to what I thought looked like the pattern to the tip of Quorra's boot.

Pretty small. I need 3 inch light strips to be lite and will need about 6 of them. Not including the even smaller lights, maybe 1 inch, at the very top center of each of her boots.

Obviously I can't or rather don't want some huge battery cage. Especially the boots. There will be no where to hide it well I guess clip it to each boot.

The SMD light strips are so perfect. Flat LEDs can cut the strip every 3rd light but now what power source can I use that is small enough to stick on my boots for instance? Chest area is easier to deal with cuz I can just tuck all the wiring on the inside of my latex armor.
