Tron Legacy Costume

Hiii I just joined the forums.

Quick question. How did you diffuse it? Frost spray paint? Shower curtain? Interfacing?
I really like your work. Everything is really complete and the finished product is looking real clean. You're gonna rooock next week B)

If she's doing it the same way that Eddie did it, then it is cheap white frosted shower curtain from Wal-Mart or Target.

Here's the Link (bottom of the page) to Eddie's first post, you can then go into his user profile and see all his posts to learn his method.

could you just see it jealousy in the theater spray this ~ suits falling off :confused

Sorry I was bored :)

I want to get this suit done so bad, it is driving me crazy!!!! :eek I am so impatient and excited about all this coming together more and more each day. Literally working my job then coming home working on this costume. No sleep till after Dec. 17th :wacko

Have no fear you will rock:cool

Annisse - excellent work! Looks great and you will be the talk of the net, and the Grid, for sure. Still have issues of how to incorporate all these ideas into something one of these or this one.

Crap that second one looks like Last airbender went cyber-emo! LOL

Great job everyone, I spent the majority of yesterday looking through all the wonderous info in this thread and can't wait to start my suit.

LOL true, but you have to love the concept art. I guess we will have to see what makes it in the movie and what doesn't. I personally like the guy with the jacket, but I'm a bald guy so there you go.

Personally, I think that either of those two would be easier to do, simply because their clothes are looser fitting and they are not as lit up as the main characters.

I'm thinking of doing a concept character myself... but mum is the word for now. Have to get through with Christmas shopping first. :lol

So here they are. All diffused and ready to adhere to my chest armor. The circles still need to be touched up as well as all the accents added to the pieces. Middle black ring in the circle and so on. About 20 hours of work just on the left and right side long strip pieces for my chest armor alone.

In my photos, these are being temporarily powered by and AC/DC adapter. Damn, I sure wish I could carry a wall socket with me and walk around having the El Wire powered this way. What a difference. The glow was incredible in my living room even with the lights on.

Annisse, I'm a bit confused about Eddie's method: When you guys talk about using masking tape to anchor the EL wire to the posterboard, do you mean the cream colored light hold tape? Or are we really talking about clear packing tape? :confused I just want to make sure before I start laying my wire tomorrow.

Also, did you wrap the posterboard in shiny vinyl to achieve that reflection flow or are you just using the white of the posterboard itself to do it?

Thanks! :)

Downloaded the soundtrack from iTunes last night. Got me through the stationary bike. :p

10 days.

10 DAYS!

It's going to be a great time in LA. I've already made up my mind. If while we're posing for pictures under the TRON light up sign and the police stop by and ask for ID....I'm giving them my identity disk.

Having picked up the soundtrack, I have to say.. it's a classic Disney underwhelming item. Daft Punk was forced, you can hear it in the tones, to minimize their style and common sounds for this one. 22(?) tracks and only 1-2 of these sound like there is actually some passion in them.

It will work for this film, but I was really, really shocked at how much I would expect this soundtrack to have been made by some guy in his garage with a single keyboard (is this really how the MCP started?). It was that 'weak'. I found myself whipping out the TRON1 CD after we 4 fans listened to the full TRON2 run and noticed how much happier we all were with the first movie soundtrack, by far.

Just one Anti-Intrusion Program's opinion.

..and Compass, hand the cops your ID Disc with your licence taped to the underside. Make umm have to work for it. :)

depending where/how you get your tron soundtrack, it's possible that there'll be a song or two that's not in other outlets. for example, sea of simulation is an amazon exclusive. on itunes, they have father and son and outlands part 2 as exclusives.

...after i just typed that, i see that madopal over an unf breaks it down nicely + the bonus disc info:
View topic - Tron Soundtrack and pre-order poster has shipped

Right now you can get the full soundtrack plus their bonus for $3.99 on Amazon and then grab the 2 iTunes exclusives for 99 cents each so $5.99 for the full thing with both sets of exclusives. Not bad.

Just started listening to it, its good - its a movie soundtrack with all that brings however.

Frankly, I think the OST is just amazing. Very epic, and not decidedly Daft Punk to be sure. I can appreciate their past work, and that they are capable of scoring something like this, and making it this epic, is a credit to their ability as musicians. Though I am quite biased I'm sure: I'll love anything Daft Punk puts out and am a Soundtrack/Film Score Junkie, so this one was extra special for me. If you're expecting a purely electronica, dancable beat, it's not quite the thing for you. But as a score for a film, it is spectacular.

It's been the best audio fuel for the past 2 weeks in planning and building my costume for the premiere!

well daft punk isn't my taste at all, so for me, this ost is a good introduction to their music. I think some of the tracks are amazing. castor off the special edition disc is cool, outlands, and a few others are very good indeed.

** UPDATED **

Okkk....

Finally just sat down and wired the whole thing. All that remains to do is test the suit while being worn, clean up some ELWire areas where the wire is slightly off center line, use inviso UV paint on the helmet, cut the fingers off of the undersuit, and bundle the wires for the power system.

Tiny bit of back story..
A former Virus program, then called Viriax, it was captured by Flynn during the early days of his technology studies and creation of the prime systems of The Grid. Having a special insight for the use of any program, Flynn thought this program would have future value and had it rescripted some 600 years before the events of TRON:Legacy. Now a Black ICE program, used to combat invading programs and systems from outside The Grid, BlkICE is a game warrior that relies on close combat skills and Baton-Saber fighting. In overall suit construction, you can consider BlkICE a TRON-1.5 (TRON:Evolution?) version progam, mixing different styles from TRON and TRON:Legacy.

(yes, the arms of the armor are inside the jacket while it's on the dressing dummy, a temp need)

Please forgive the crappy pics and sideways video:

Awesome job! You're going to be a big hit at that club party!!!

Thnx folks. It isn't TRON-true but I like going with this look as it is deeply TRON-inspired. Beside, I can't see surviving a club night in neoprene and rubber, December weather or not. :p Halloween 2011 is going to be one heck of a costume day for me now that I have this concept under control and acting as a basis for the next design.
