Tron Legacy Costume

You have a straight line going here, but what about the 90 Degree angles? Are you then cutting the strip apart anD, attaching it enD to enD to get the angles? Can you Do that with this tape?

Yes, it can be cut and reattached to an extent, more progress on this soon!

I got my rare earth magnets in the mail today. ZOMG!!! THEY ARE SUPER STRONG!!. Had a slightly difficult time seperating 2 from each other.

You guys are doing great on the EL department. Keep it up! :thumbsup

Hi, I've been reading and ordering like crazy. We're making three men's costumes and one Quorro costume. We went with EL wire from High-Bright EL wire kits from $0.98/ft. in 10 colors. They're $1.15 a foot and will even do custom cut lengths. We had a crazy Excel spreadsheet itemizing all lengths for each costume. We're worried about metal fatigue and by having breaks will prevent this in the areas where it bends. We wanted to do LightTape but the more I read Elstolite was better for this application. Too expensive so we're using EL wire. We're using E6000 to glue the EL wire to a non-reflective white vinyl. The white vinyl is then glued to neoprene cut out into shaped slightly larger then the vinyl. The neoprene then attaches to our tights and upper armor/shirt with velcro (in specific spots to allow flexibility.) We felt this to be simplest due to stretching and not sewn directly to the stretched material. I'll post some picture tomorrow of the finished light assemblies.

Would love to see some examples of your work so far on this.

How much have you all spent on your costumes so far? Looks like I'm at $169.83 so far....and ordering Light Tape is going to bring me up to $227.83. That's NOT including the boots I bought, because I will wear those again with regular clothes!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

assuming the light tape works then prob not much more!
let us know how it works out :)

BATON: (cost about 17.99, it was more with the shipping) it comes w/ a light cycle that goes inside and then gets released. I have to warn you the baton does NOT light up even though it might look like it does from pictures online. I can sell it for $18.00, that would cover the baton+shipping.. well really I'm not going to charge shipping because the baton is no longer in the original packaging since I had to open it to check it out. It has never been used otherwise.

Nemesis,

Does the baton open and close? see pictures below.

We're spending about $80 on EL for each men's costume. We're spending about $250 total. $50 on EL wire for the woman. One transformer for the entire body. One transformer for the disc. We bought the standard discs for price and availability. We put a 3ft length of EL wire on the disc. We bought the non-light up ones cause the light up discs don't stay on. You have to press a button and it times out eventually. What you see is the one light up men's complete leg front and back. Three sets. The woman's isn't finished and we'll have the armor/upper area done later tomorrow. Pool cue gloves are perfect!

Dear Daniel, What are you using to cover the EL Wires on your costumes?
it looks great. the reason I ask is I need something to hold down the EL wires on My helmet And My Boots.

Glued to the white vinyl with E6000 glue. We used Scotch tape to hold the wire in place as it dried then removed the tape.

has anyone tried to make the trooper helmets?
I'm doing a CLU sentry. I just goot a motorcycle helmet in flat black. The have some on clearance at www.revzilla.com. I'm going to light it with RED EL wire. I want to try using the clear vinyl strips to hold the wire in pace on the helmet. The wires go to the connector through the small air vents on top of the helmet. Should be easy enough!:rolleyes

WOW! what you have done is most excellent, just saw all your photos you posted with your EL WIRE attached. I am liking what you did.... ALOT!

I just got my white glow paint today, gonna try it and post my results. But so far, charged in the bottle it glows white bluish not green, which is perfect!

But I am really liking your EL WIRE and neoprene you used. Is neoprene the same as EVA FOAM? where did you get it from? and the only thing I am worried about going with the EL WIRE method, as you mentioned here, and I mentioned in many posts ago, buried in this thread, I have made costumes with EL WIRE and every place your body bends, any joints, elblows, knees, even moving around in the waist area, my EL WIRING broke somewhere in the connection. What I like what you have done here is made your EL WIRE design independent of the costume. If you do get a break somewhere, which I hope you do not, it will be slightly easier replacing the damaged wire since it is not stuck on the costume, and those neoprenes strip you made even looks accurate to the movie look of the costumes.

I too wanted to do that elevated, 3D look, on my Quorra costume as the strips of lights are floating on her suit and your idea does just that! BRAVO! :D

Now in regards to the white vinyl you used. Is this white vinyl fabric used to sew clothing? Just regular white vinyl fabric you purchase from a fabric store? Your white vinyl almost looks like a hard plastic.

Very good, you guys are gonna look SWEET! CONGRATS on all your hard work! :cool

If you have any extra of those magnets left, I will take them off your hands ;) I totally need better magnets on my disk to hold it done and want to replace them.

Thanks!

Wow - great EL wire work! Looking nice.

Annisse,

Can you tell me what diameter were the circles on your Quorra costume? Are they larger than 2"? I'm ordering reflective tape and wondering what thickness I'll need.

Thanks!
