Hi, I've been reading and ordering like crazy. We're making three men's costumes and one Quorro costume. We went with EL wire from
High-Bright EL wire kits from $0.98/ft. in 10 colors. They're $1.15 a foot and will even do custom cut lengths. We had a crazy Excel spreadsheet itemizing all lengths for each costume. We're worried about metal fatigue and by having breaks will prevent this in the areas where it bends. We wanted to do LightTape but the more I read Elstolite was better for this application. Too expensive so we're using EL wire. We're using E6000 to glue the EL wire to a non-reflective white vinyl. The white vinyl is then glued to neoprene cut out into shaped slightly larger then the vinyl. The neoprene then attaches to our tights and upper armor/shirt with velcro (in specific spots to allow flexibility.) We felt this to be simplest due to stretching and not sewn directly to the stretched material. I'll post some picture tomorrow of the finished light assemblies.
WOW! what you have done is most excellent, just saw all your photos you posted with your EL WIRE attached. I am liking what you did.... ALOT!
I just got my white glow paint today, gonna try it and post my results. But so far, charged in the bottle it glows white bluish not green, which is perfect!
But I am really liking your EL WIRE and neoprene you used. Is neoprene the same as EVA FOAM? where did you get it from? and the only thing I am worried about going with the EL WIRE method, as you mentioned here, and I mentioned in many posts ago, buried in this thread, I have made costumes with EL WIRE and every place your body bends, any joints, elblows, knees, even moving around in the waist area, my EL WIRING broke somewhere in the connection. What I like what you have done here is made your EL WIRE design independent of the costume. If you do get a break somewhere, which I hope you do not, it will be slightly easier replacing the damaged wire since it is not stuck on the costume, and those neoprenes strip you made even looks accurate to the movie look of the costumes.
I too wanted to do that elevated, 3D look, on my Quorra costume as the strips of lights are floating on her suit and your idea does just that! BRAVO!
Now in regards to the white vinyl you used. Is this white vinyl fabric used to sew clothing? Just regular white vinyl fabric you purchase from a fabric store? Your white vinyl almost looks like a hard plastic.
Very good, you guys are gonna look SWEET! CONGRATS on all your hard work! :cool
