PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK

thank you!

This is not the White Glow paint from Risk Reactor right?

i dont need to buy it
they have them at the disney store near my house

i dont know if they are even making a toy one for Quorra
but the deal with the Batons in the movie is they can make it anything from a light cycle to an umbrella
its a pretty nifty thing really

thanks for the info!

to make Quorra's baton would be pretty simple, all you need is a tube and some black and silver tape :)

i was probably gonna go Annis rout and use foam bord cause it would weigh like nothing

the enitial plan is to actually make her the sword in full so we wont need to worry about attaching it to her leg

Annisse, do you have a build/showoff thread for your costume?

I'm just curious what it looks like when well lit. Your pics of it look great, but the darkness hides all the detailing. :D

Here's another question: has anyone tried painting GID paint OVER the reflective tape? Perhaps just a light coating,
maybe airbrushed over? I wonder if you'd still get the high intensity glow of the reflective, and any ambiant glow
from the paint.

It might be an alternative to EL if it works at all.

Thanks,

Russ

I was thinking the same thing, but then realized that walking around with swords in New York is not safe (the cops are not amused by anything that might resemble a weapon, and they will beat your arse down)

it seems that it is possible to paint with glow paint over the reflective tape.. since the glow paint dries fairly clear .. the reflective properties are still there.. but if you want to get an EXTREME glow from the paint you really have to layer it on.. and the more you layer on the less reflective particles you see.. i also tried mixing reflective particle dust with the glow paint.. but that only adulterates the glow paint taking away from its glow.
So unless someone has metallic dust particles that reflect light that also happen to glow in the dark.. well we are .. "out of luck"

another solution is to paint the costume with a FAKE GLOW effect... what i mean is to paint the ILLUSION of a glow by using GRADIENTS

I bought the Risk Reactor paint (glow is BLUE) and some Reflective tape. I painted over the Reflective tape with the Glow Paint...hoping it would still be Reflective and Glowing. Nope. The Glow is HARDLY noticeable and completely takes away the Reflectiveness of the Tape.

I also tried the Glow Paint on some white adhesive athletic tape, to see if the Glow would be any stronger. Nope. It's about the same. It's a very faint glow....and I wouldn't call it "BLUE" either.

I don't recommend the Risk Reactor paint. I'm going to just stick with the Reflective Tape, unless I'm using it wrong and someone else has a better suggestion!

it seems like all the toys and merchandise for TL are all geared towards Sam Flynn. I see no action figures, identity disks and yeah no baton for Quorra out there so far. That sucks, I at least wanted to get a Quorra baton so I wouldn't have to go thru making my own. Oh well, here I come again craft foam, cardboard and paint :p

I saw some Quorra figures at Target yesterday. Another user posted a pic of one in the package:

There's also a nice Quorra concession topper:

Thanks for the post on the tape. I haven't used the glow paint yet. I was able to obtain some white acrilic paint at my local hobby store. Risk Reactor recomended using a white base paint as the first layer. This white paint can be used on al types of fabric. I ran out of time running errands today. I'm using stencil tape on my outfit to get the pattern for Clu's sentry's outfit. I was able to buy a small doll at the DISNEY store for reference. I hope I have time to test this. If this doesn't work I'm doing the EL wire with the paint & combine it with the 3M tape. By the way I was wondering how many layers of the glow paint did you use?
I'm willing to try anything at this point. I'll keep you all posted!
For those looking for baton holders. Look at the museum replicas website.
You could use a scabbard holder as a substitute.Good LucK!:lol
PS. They also have some great body armour!

Aloha everyone :) I've been reading this thread for awhile and here's what I've come up with for the lighting of my Tron costume. I have purchased 2.6mm blue EL wire and white 3M reflective tape (the type you see on a construction vest). I found it at a art supply store here in Hawaii. It's actually a vinyl material with a clear vinyl overlay that can be cut to different angles. The tape is 1 3/8" wide including the border. Since there are 2 layers, I was able to cut the line I needed and just inserted the wire in between the 2 vinyl layers. Depending on the angle that you look at it, you can or cannot see the wires inside the 2 layers. As you can see on the last pic, I will re-insert the EL wire so the the end will be up at the shoulder area so I can solder a connector and run that to the battery pack under the Identity Disc. I know it doesn't look that great in a lighted area but the effect is there when the lights are down :)

Can you provide any more details of the 3M tape? Packaging? Etc.
I have El wire this would work great for my boots and helmet.Without me having to paint them. Please share
more details!:lol

Is there a website you bought the El Wire from? Looks like 10 feet is~$75 (from what I've seen). Is that correct? Where do you hide the battery box?

Try AMAZON.com They are less expensive. They have all the Tron colors except white & yellow. The yellow looks green when lit. Their:rolleyes EL wire all come with the battery pack. Sorry no batteries. They use AA batteries.

Aloha,
I just looked at my invoice and it's Sew-On Reflective Tape, 1 3/8" White and it was $1.50 per foot so not that bad considering. I'm pretty sure its made by 3M. I'm going back tomorrow to buy more since I'm making 4 costumes. I'll get the actual brand for you!

by the way, I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep the wire from staying on the inner perimeter of the inner part of the tape. I'll post what I come up with.
