Tron Legacy Costume

I was thinking the same thing, but then realized that walking around with swords in New York is not safe (the cops are not amused by anything that might resemble a weapon, and they will beat your arse down)

ah yeah
were a bit safer with that in California
i can see how NY would be a bit....iffy

so, is it definitive that the paint over the reflective tape doesn't work? i found 3M 680 for CHEAP with expedited shipping on ebay rather than the 8930 which was slightly more but would have taken WAY too long to get here. Was planning on just rocking that, but the paint over idea intrigued me. anyone try with pics? btw, the materials are coming in the mail. got wetsuit #1 and plasti-dip. wetsuit #2 should be coming tomorrow so i can start fabricating (once i go to the hobby store down the street and pick up some L200). tape should be on its way. i work better with a time crunch, but this is getting serious (10/29). wish me luck :wacko

Anyone bought from here: Light Tape® - Bring your imagination to light!

Seems pretty bright. Their "test sets" are like $70 for I think 10 feet of the stuff with DC inverter.

Yes, they are very nice. You will give them the amount of tape you want width and length and they will give you a quote. Be aware the more square inches you use the larger your inverter will be and it is more expensive. My inverter alone was over $100 ( but I'm running 240+ square inches)

Actordiver: Was the Light Tape easy to install on your costume? Is it literally a sticky-back tape that you just peel and stick? Oh man, that would be heaven!

"light tape" does not have an adhesive back. The other light tape I bought (for my shin guards, see page 17) does, but it's much thinner tape and VERY difficult to cut and re-attach wires, and even then the adhesive back doesn't work all that well you are much better off using a glue like E-6000. That's what I'm using and it's working well. After going to all this trouble designing, wiring, soldering, you don't want it coming off your costume 1/2 way through the night.

Did you attach the Light Tape with E-6000 glue? I was hoping to utilize my "Quorra" costume for other costumes in the future, like a cat or whatever else. If I glue on it, then it will always be Quorra. Hmm....what about buying EL wires and sewing them on with a clear thread that I could later remove? Do you think that would work, or is EL wire too heavy to stay in place with thread?

marvel is apparently putting out tron-influenced marvel characters. i can imagine the guys doing the foam iron man and war machine (in another thread) could do something like this:

Annisse, do you have a build/showoff thread for

Thanks,

Russ

Hi there, yes I Do have the pics of the builD of my chest armour for Quorra on my Facebook page. If you aDD me as a frienD, they are in my mobile uploaDs album (sorry my lower case D has crappeD out on my keyboarD, that is why all the D caps :p)

I bought the Risk Reactor paint (glow is BLUE) and some Reflective tape. I painted over the Reflective tape with the Glow Paint...hoping it would still be Reflective and Glowing. Nope. The Glow is HARDLY noticeable and completely takes away the Reflectiveness of the Tape.

I also tried the Glow Paint on some white adhesive athletic tape, to see if the Glow would be any stronger. Nope. It's about the same. It's a very faint glow....and I wouldn't call it "BLUE" either.

I don't recommend the Risk Reactor paint. I'm going to just stick with the Reflective Tape, unless I'm using it wrong and someone else has a better suggestion!

Oh NO! you got to be kiDDing me! This is very Disappointing to hear. I am still waiting on my which shoulD be arriving this week but I got Bright White Glow Paint from Risk Reactor. DiD you follow their instructions on their site which saiD to 1st use a white primer then you have to aDD about 2-4 coats of the glow paint to really get a gooD long lasting glow effect? I think the Blue glow paint has Different saturation properties anD glow length time than the Bright White Does. I am hoping this white will last long. I unDerstan that the reflective properties of the tape will probably Dimmish or Disappear completely once all those layers of primer anD glow paint are applie but since you can't see the light/glow in the Day time anyway, as long as this paint can last for hours strong, as their website states, that is all that matters for wearing it at night anD photo taking.

Will let you all know my Bright White Glow paint results when I get it!

I've successfully lit over 360sq inches of EL tape with just 1 inverter (y)

DuDe awesome!!!! If this all works out for you, which it sure looks like it is ;) then I may be going the same route as you to light up my Quorra costume for the movie premiere! How will you apply or rather be making the sharp corners, the curveD corners to the light strip to apply to your costume? You have a straight line going here, but what about the 90 Degree angles? Are you then cutting the strip apart anD, attaching it enD to enD to get the angles? Can you Do that with this tape?

YAY! GooD Luck! :D

Yes I'm using the glue to attach to the costume. I have also made an el-wire shirt that I've used clear thread to attach. If you want to remove the light part of your costume then I would suggest the wire and thread vs the tape. But I'm keeping my costume as a tron one so that's why I'm using the light tape and glue. I'll post pictures and design drawings when I'm all done, how it came about from start to finish. :)

Are you doing a 8AA battery pack to power it?

Yes, I'm using 8 AA rechargeable batts. Now to test the time. Wonder how many hrs I can get out of em? Not sure what inverter, I'll check when I get home.
