Tron Legacy Costume

Here is that design I promised, as well as some pictures of some dirt bike armor I got for $5 that I think I will paint black and add some el wire too.

At $5, who can complain. :cool Looks like a good starting point. Black with Red ELWire or Red with UVWire?

Thanks, well, I plan on doing black with red wire, for the sketch I will also be doing black with red, but my first test run will be red with black fabric.

Anyone doing a Quorra costume, any suggestions for the skirt part of her outfit? I have pretty much everything else figured out but I went to JoAnn's today and they only had this super shiny black pleather which looks too - well, shiny. Oh and also the EL Lights for her suit, is it better as white or blue? I keep going back and forth on which color is more accurate. Any feed back would be most appreciated.
She has white circuits. In Tron: Evolution she has blue but that is before she becomes Flynn's apprentice

Keep in mind that Regular Programs are Blue. Users are white as well as programs close to Flynn (ie Quorra). So if you a replicating a Legacy Quorra, then go with White.

Haven't seen any new non-costume related stuff in here for a little while and thought some of you might be interested in this:

Fan made trailer that I thought was done incredibly well. So much so that I thought it was a better trailer than any of the real trailers that were released before the film came out. Makes me want to go see the movie again.

Really a shame. I liked this green color and the price was reasonable. Now I can see why the price was as such. :unsure

That is a shame. It was my understanding that color was obtained using a film. So as long as you use the same film you always get the same color. Perhaps their vendor uses a different process? Strange.

It strikes me that GlowHut.com uses various vendors, and in doing so, can not control the quality of ELTape from one order to another.

(still reading through the forums, just wanted to mention this, plus I am planning 2 suits right now) how did Tron not get nominated for the costume design Oscar?

More like how did it not get nominated for: costume design, original score, special effects, and production design. Honestly out of all those categories, the movie blew all of the others out of the water. But we gotta face the facts that the academy hates Tron haha

The Oscars are a load of crap that don't cater to the actual film going audience just a bunch of stiff old fuddies who probably have no idea about things like pop culture and internet :)

ok.. paint help if someone has an answer:

I ooops'd! a tad the other day. Without noticing my error quickly enough I find I had a bit of 'drip' on my recently spray painted helm. Seems I slowed down for a second, or it might be the nozzle on the can as it has happened again since I tested the paint elsewhere, and got that ugly dripping look right along the front of the helm, just above where I will putting my visor.

Any suggestion of how I can fade or remove this drip look from the Semi-Gloss Black Rust-oleum fast drying spray paint? Very light sanding with 200-400 (or finer) paper and then careful retouching with a few well aimed paint sprays, or other option you have found to work well?

By drip look, I'm assuming you mean "runs" where the paint was pooled and dripped down the helm in a line or many.

If that's the case, sanding down and re-spraying is the standard thing to do. You COULD try burying it under more paint (I'm talking about 20-30 coats) if the runs aren't too thick.

If you decide to sand down, go with 240 or 320 grit. Imo 400 grit is too fine for levelling and clogs up faster. Back the sandpaper with something like dense foam because bare fingers might actually sand around the runs, preserving the texture. Give the entire piece an even sanding so the runs are filed down to the same thickness as the rest of the coat, then respray. This will help mask other imperfections as well and give you a smoother coat.

One disclaimer, I'm more experienced working with timber and timber coatings but the idea is the same.

Yeah, that robe is the coolest costume in the movie if you ask me. Can't wait to see it in the dark with the helmet.

Hello all! I have posted a few times, but I will make it official now... I am planning 2 (Sam) suits with one of my friends. I have incorporated a lot of the ideas I have seen on these forums(only at page 90 so far). Our plan is to use 1 inch LightTape for the chest, and attach it by cutting grooves on the side of the channels so we can slide the tape in(and out for easy repairs) for the arms and legs, we are going to use 2.3(I think)mm El wire and follow a modification of Eddie's method by not using the poster board backing(okay... We may, I will see how it looks with out) and instead of a shower curtain, use theatrical diffuser gel(since I practically live in a theater)... if you couldn't tell, I am only taking care of the lighting portion, so I am excited to get these suits made! I hope to wear them to Pax Prime in August(wish I lived in cali so I could make it to some of the Tron costume events)
