Tron Legacy Costume

I'm curious to know what you all think about this jacket I found. Considering that the Flynn jacket was more than likely a modified Alphine NYC perforated jacket, I was searching along those lines. I came across this. I'm pretty confident that this could be suitable enough after modifications.

Do you know the name of the seller? I love this jacket!

I've been stalking this thread quietly for a long long time now. Finally decided on making an account and post. I currently finished my Siren tron cosplay for Naka-kon. I sorta rushed it.. but it turned out pretty good I think. I wired the whole suit with El wire, defused it with a white shower curtain., I really wished I spent more time on it. I made everything except the shoes.. lol.. which i still need to finish. I wired the light section the night before the convention so the crasftmanship is not too great.. but other then that.. i think its pretty decent. It glow semi brightly. which you can sorta see in the short video clip. I am gonna try to rewire it. Please let me know what you guys think! Thanks

a short bad quality video of my whole costume

last pic.. forgot to mention.. yep.. i had a really bright glowing finger (the finger lazer thing in the movie) ..thank you raver glove light.. it glows so brightly just like in the movie. It was expensive though like 16 dollars for a single micro finger tip light

Thanks you guys.. if it wasn't for this site i would never have figured out how to do the wiring.. even though it was a bad job. LOL

@Almostanangel: I'm trying to build a suit for my wife. How did you make the suit? Did you have a pattern for the grey patches? Thanks

Thanks.. I actually don't use patterns believe it or not.. i freehand it.. >_< .. that goes the same with all my other cosplays.. i sorta trace it out.. until it fits.. i wasted a lot of fabric and materials.. ROFL.. and its lycra.

Great job, Almostanangel!! :) That finger light was 16 bucks?! O.O Did you look into the glove lights they make for raves? Or the little clips that are normally around...(should be) $2-$3?
Eh, what ever the cost, you look great!

cyvaris-Have you looked into sewing the sides of the reflective tape? I used reflective tape in the past and I know how it never seems to want to stay put.
Look into fishing wire. It's clear and VERY strong. You would need to get a leather needle(stronger than normal thin needles) to do the job. Did electric tape not work?

Thanks so much! yeah... it seems like i got screwed over.. i ordered it from a european company.. so the shipping alone was 6 dollars... and the micro finger light was 10 dollars.. so.... yeah... T_T should have done more research...

I just added power lead wires, held on by E6000 glue, to Glowhut.com ELTape.. looks fine, lights up, no issues or degreneration after a week.

Seeing your post has given me hope. I can't afford a lot, but knowing that the GlowHut ELtape works fine means that I'll be giving them my money.

Wait...I just noticed that it's only 10mm wide...doesn't seem worth it to me.

Don't buy a "finger light" they are cheap pieces of crap. Best thing to do is buy an Inova LED light (used by ravers for gloves and orbits). They are extremely bright, reliable and around $9.

Yep. Snagged one of the micro lights at the local Target for under $8 a short while back.

So is the Gray sewn onto a white suit or is it all pieced together from scratch?! Thanks! Awesome work btw.

The ELTape I am using for my helm highlights and chest 'thin' details is about 3/4in wide (slightly less as the edges of the tape tend to not light up). It will work for my purposes. They do sell wider tapes.

I have used the E6000 to bond the wires to the ELTape. No issues even after shrink wrapping the connections and throwing a good amount of heat in doing so. Then placed a tiny bit of Gorilla Super Glue as a base to bond the finished ELTape to the foam of the helm, with more E6000 over the edges of the tape to seal the whole sucker in place.

I will post the helm sections and the finished helm look asap.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE about GlowHut.com

The color matching at GlowHut.com for ELTape is said to vary from order to order. Yes, Mark over there sent me a reply to my recent order email and tells me that 'Green' can come in various tones, depending on when and from where the tape is produced.

Example of my first tape vs the tape I ordered 2 weeks later (in bubblewrap still):
GreenTypes.jpg

And their 'Green' 1.25in tape is not green at all, but Blue/Cyan at best when lit and silver when Off:
125Blue.jpg

Not sure if this means you can order 2 or more lengths of tape in the same order and end up with 2 VERY different colors, but it is a confirmed issue with multiple orders at different times.

"Since those EL products are made by different factory, green colors of both items are different. Even same vendor, green colors might little bit different when made in different time.

Thanks.

Mark"

I am waiting for confirmation that these items can be returned for refund, since they are useless to me on a costume meant to have a 'certain green' tone.

^ That's disappointing to hear. I'm assuming that Luminousfilm.com and Lighttape.com don't have this issue as they seem to be the manufacturers themselves and hopefully have better QC.

An update from Mark at GlowHut.com

He will allow me to return the 2 different tape sections, though it seems to be a sold As-Is policy with them. This is news to me.

He also suggested I buy White ELTape and make my own overlays.. if I wanted to do that, I would have from the start.

"You can choose white EL light for your project. Just place color transparent sheet on top of white EL light. You create your own color EL light.

Based on our return policy, we exchange items for free. No refund for item sold. No refund for S&H charges. But we do you a favor. We can refund cost of items to you if you do not want to change white EL light. S&H charges is not refundable.

Thanks.

Mark"

Really a shame. I liked this green color and the price was reasonable. Now I can see why the price was as such. :unsure

Here is that design I promised, as well as some pictures of some dirt bike armor I got for $5 that I think I will paint black and add some el wire too.

Anyone doing a Quorra costume, any suggestions for the skirt part of her outfit? I have pretty much everything else figured out but I went to JoAnn's today and they only had this super shiny black pleather which looks too - well, shiny. Oh and also the EL Lights for her suit, is it better as white or blue? I keep going back and forth on which color is more accurate. Any feed back would be most appreciated.
