The Mandalorian (TV series)

The owl!

Wasn't it kind of apparent that when RD (Asoka) mentioned to take Grogo to the hill and "reach out with the force" to be found by another jedi - that for all Asoka knows there is only ONE main Jedi left being Luke? Do you think they would have the cajones to bring in Hamill and deage him?

Is that supposed to be a reference to anything in particular?

Owls have a way of showing up when Ahsoka is around.

no idea, we've literally got no official stories about Luke in that period of time any more. the old EU doesn't fit anymore, so for all we know, the galaxy at large may barely even know about luke skywalker "force user", he may just be the pilot that blew up the death star, and gave an eye witness account of the emperor's death. I'd assume that Assoka doesn't even know he's a Jedi. If she knew he was a Jedi, wouldn't she have sought him out now that the empire is "gone"?

ugh, that's a great point. (didn't think of that, but I am only 20% through TCW and Rebels)
My only guess is that Asoka should be able to "reach out" with the force and maybe feel another (more powerful?) user.

Ch 13 was so great! The heavy samurai vibes were a real treat, especially since I recently finished playing Ghost of Tsushima. They did an excellent job with Ahsoka, she looked spot on. Growing up watching Clone Wars, it was so neat seeing her in live action, although it was odd seeing her move like an actual human rather than how she moves in animation. She's so fast and nimble in Clone Wars and Rebels. Regardless, it was a lot of fun seeing her interact with Mando and kick some ass! And our baby has a name! Grogu!

Thrawn name drop seems like an obvious setup for a spin-off series. Her search for the Grand Admiral doesn't seem like it makes much sense in the context of Mando, unless he's connected with Gideon (which could very well be the case), so I wonder if her role in his journey is over.

As for another Jedi reaching out and finding Grogu...I really hope it's not Luke. Leave the Skywalkers out of this story, they've had 3 whole trilogies about their family drama for pete's sake haha

When I watched this episode, I just saw a Togruta, I didn't see Ahsoka Tano. Her headtails shrunk back to her Clone Wars days (which we know from Shaak Ti isn't a thing), RD neither looks nor sounds like Ahsoka, she was a lot more violent than she's ever been, she carries herself differently, doesn't hold her sabers in her signature way, and the fight at the end was quite lethargic and boring.

It will never be a perfect copy from CW/Rebels and if you watch the BTS Mandalorian you'll understand why. Filoni and Favreau talk about how the cartoons are stylized and they have to (such as with the Dark Saber) reverse-engineer them into real world look/proportions/style based on the idea that the item/character in Mandalorian would have come first and then been stylized/idealized for CW/Rebels.

Quite enjoyed that just annoyed they never offloaded the kid. It simply doesn't add anything to the show for me.

Nothing like schimpfing about how it's everyone else's fault that something isn't how you want it....

Anyway. Just watched it a second time and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed parts of it more than the first time round, but others parts like Ahsoka sort of disappointing. Though I can't figure out quite why I feel that way yet.

I still can't shake the nagging feeling that Filoni still can't quite help himself, when it comes to having to constantly reference as much as possible in as short a time as he can, like the sabers igniting in that specific way with them together. Just some seem to be too much of a good thing for me.

I especially loved the sound effects of Ahsoka's sabers in this episode, despite not being a fan of their design.
I’m hoping the first part of this post isn’t about my griping, which I think is mostly mild

I totally agree with you about Filoni’s lack of restraint. I was REALLY annoyed by the lightsaber ignition thing (I don’t even know how to describe that move). I thought Dawson was better than I had imagined her, but overall this episode is off for me and I’m someone who loves Rebels/TCW and appreciates Ahsoka so it’s not just unfamiliarity.

this feels like a pivotal episode for the “is this show stand alone” argument and I’m sure to some they aren’t happy with the answer.

I kind of wonder why Ahsoka didn’t ask Grogu where he came from or if he remembers his parents. Maybe she assumed he was taken when he was a newborn like most. It just would have been helpful info for Mando. Also surprised that when Mando mentioned the Empire wanting him Ahsoka didn’t follow up on that.

It seems like, regardless of what any potential intent of Din's mission was, it has solidly fallen into the realm of "the kid is a Jedi, leave him with the Jedi", instead of possible alternatives like "take this kid home, the Jedi either are his home, or they can take you to his home".

With that in mind, it doesn't actually serve the plot of the story for her to also throw in "and his mom was named X, and his home world is Y".
It would serve our greedy little psyche's, but not the story.

change of topic:
I think our earlier musings about Din's armor being some lesser form of beskar can at least be put to bed for his most recent full suit set up. It's taken a beating, blasters after blaster (some very very powerful blasters) and he has now used his gauntlets (the most techy potentially damageable part of the suit) to fend off multiple light saber barages.

It aint no bitch version of beskar. he's got the good stuff.

Maybe his old chest piece was something lesser, but he's got the serious stuff for sure now.

That was awesome! Very samurai film-esque... but still, anyone else found they were nodding way too much?

I thought so too! The duel between Ahsoka and the magistrate reminded me of the the duel from Kill Bill where the Bride faced off against O-Ren.

I definitely think this was my least favourite so far, just felt like it was Mando, the kid & Ashoka in a Japanese film,...some nice scenes, beautifully filmed, some humour with the child
Ashoka was great, make up & blue eyes were perfect

But, it didn't just homage a samurai film, it took me out of the whole SW universe & dropped me on Earth
