The Mandalorian (TV series)

Even so, this is someone who fought Maul AND Vader, it should have been no contest. I’m not even trying to be a fanboy about this, it just doesn’t feel that believable to me.

I’m so glad they found a way to move GAT from Rebels era back to where he’s originally supposed to be, after ROTJ.

What if the person who removed the child was Mace.. Even George mentioned to Sam Jackson that Mace may not be dead...

I really hope that doesn't happen. In my opinion a character we've never seen before would be far better than keep bringing up old characters.

Loved the episode, but for me it's becoming far too ingrained with Rebels, now with GAT, i'm guessing another Jedi character will be either making an appearance. I hope i'm wrong though.

So glad to hear the Johnny Ringo reference.

I know several will hate it, (but the show's so good, I'm about to not care) but I'm starting to realize that instead of using these characters as a means to further the Mandalorian's story, the Mandalorian is being used to tie Star Wars together.

I know some have never watched the 'cartoons', (always said in the most derogatory way) so they've been against any story or character's appearance. Then when they've shown up, they're not as hated as they thought they'd be.

Like I speculated yesterday, he's not adding to his crew. He's not picking up famous strays. He's touching base with some known characters that further his story, but also let fans of those characters know what they're up to. Almost like Doctor Who was. Not everyone he met became a companion, but a lot of those that he met in a season/series would turn back up near the finale.

Also seems like the kid having to make a choice is gonna be a thing like I thought, but that might come sooner rather than later.

off the chart! this season is blowing me away episode after episode! more "Star Wars" in this series than all of the new sequels combined! Filoni and Favreau really have their finger on the pulse of Star Wars. This Ahsoka Tano episode was way above and beyond anything I could have imagned or hoped for!

I'm wondering now with that big name drop if they aren't trying to tie it into the ST (Snoke), but still rather keep it self contained to Gideon and that other person... I hope so!

My guess is we’re not finished with Ashoka just yet. Since Gideon has a tracker on Mando’s ship, and Thrawn has been mentioned, it’s going to all come together in the last episode. I bet Gideon will try to rein supreme, which is why he wants Grogu’s blood so that he can face off with Thrawn and get him out of the way, enter Ashoka.

The Mandalorian is the equivalent of a word search where you find various words from the axed EU and Filoni’s shows, except they aren’t hidden and there isn’t anything else going on. Look, a Ralph Mcquarrie painting! Look, a blue guy! Look, a Jedi! Look, darksaber! There’s practically nothing holding this show together at this point, and if it weren’t for the shiny veneer of VFX and the Star Wars logo, it would not be received nearly as well by now. Oh well. That’s all any of you seem to want, so that’s all we’ll ever get. Can’t ever have anything better when this is accepted as peak excellence.

Nothing like schimpfing about how it's everyone else's fault that something isn't how you want it....

Anyway. Just watched it a second time and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed parts of it more than the first time round, but others parts like Ahsoka sort of disappointing. Though I can't figure out quite why I feel that way yet.

I still can't shake the nagging feeling that Filoni still can't quite help himself, when it comes to having to constantly reference as much as possible in as short a time as he can, like the sabers igniting in that specific way with them together. Just some seem to be too much of a good thing for me.

I especially loved the sound effects of Ahsoka's sabers in this episode, despite not being a fan of their design.

I substantialy disagree with you.

I expected to be blown away by this latest episode. Despite my misgivings about Ashley Eckstein not even being given an audition for the role she originated, I was excited to see Ahsoka, but I found myself very underwhelmed by it.

When I watched this episode, I just saw a Togruta, I didn't see Ahsoka Tano. Her headtails shrunk back to her Clone Wars days (which we know from Shaak Ti isn't a thing), RD neither looks nor sounds like Ahsoka, she was a lot more violent than she's ever been, she carries herself differently, doesn't hold her sabers in her signature way, and the fight at the end was quite lethargic and boring.

I liked that we got a little backstory on Grogu (it's going to take a while to get used to that name lol) and the scenes between him and Din were very sweet and affecting.

I've only watched it once, so maybe another watch or two will help. But then I gave TLJ the same chance and it just kept getting worse for me, so who knows.

I love this season. I guess it was the music but I was getting a Blade Runner 2049 vibe is some scenes.

They've not only visited more cities this season, but those cities have at least a touch of, or very strong direct appearance to, aisian distopias of one era or another. Blade runner had that same kind of vibe. So you get music from blade runner that's very "space china town"/"rap neo toyko", and then you get mandalorian music that is also that way. blade runner had a chinese cultural influence, while I think japan/samurai is a way bigger factor in star wars, a lot of us westerners are trained by our TV and movies to not really distinguish between one or the other; we just hear "eastern influence".

That was awesome! Very samurai film-esque... but still, anyone else found they were nodding way too much?

Not surprising. in the gallery episodes, Filoni talks about how he and Lucas saw Jedi as almost straight up samurai copies. So getting to show off one of his own Jedi, he went hard in on it being an unabashed samurai movie. unfortunately, samurai shows and movies can be a bit slow at times to.

I liked the episode. My only "disappointments" were of my own making. I expected more of a conclusion to the kid's story line, but for all practicality, we know that can't happen at this point in the season. I was hoping for at least more of a "His kind can be found at X" or at least a "search for this sort of thing to keep him safe". Both of which would not have served the show continuing.

I feel like one of the main elephants in the room is being disregarded; that Mando can't raise the kid even if he wants to. From a completely practical standpoint (even removing the Empire from the equation), Din will be dead of old age by the time the kid hits an equivalent of 6-7 years old. Which just means that they're pulling a bit more inspiration from classic greek story telling, where practical matters like that are secondary concern to concepts lineage and "parent/child" relationships.
