Sucker Punch costume thread

I'm starting to work on my Baby Doll outfit for a con coming up in June, but I can't seem to find any reference pics of the engraving on the katana. I found a few, but it's only pictures of the handle area and then somewhere in the middle of the blade. Does anyone have any pictures of the full engraving?

Its in the art book

The bayonet Rocket carries as a knife seems very familiar...

hmmm. I gotta think about that one

Interesting theory TONKA1675, I like it.

Maybe it would help if someone who has the art book would look and see if they can find the bear on the sword. I believe I read in here that the engravings are supposed to be a timeline of her journey, and the placement of the bear on her sword might indicate which point in her life it would represent.

Here's a better question, why is the bear MISSING? In the description of the pic the author makes specific reference to each of the charms, EXCEPT the bear!

Hey C! Good work on those charms! How tall are they? I can't really get a fix on how tall they SHOULD be porportionately. What kind of clay are you using? It looks smooth. I'm using Sculpy Clay on my cherries brand and my WiseMan cap pin. Seems a little fragile and sometimes, grainy or something. I have never used epoxy paste before...I gotta try it.

I don't see anything wrong with your hourglass! Your bunny looks good - no doubt that thing is killer to make..Its face is so much like a goofy mask on a stuffy! Never seen anything like that in any toy stores. Your bear is awesome...(Dang! Who is that guy...?lol!) Skull looks great. Only thing maybe you could add to would be your baby bottle. Maybe pull your nipple out a little.

Ahem........hahahahaheehee

PULL YOUR NIPPLE OUT A LITTLE e_e omg dirty talk, lol. you little b*stard ahahahah

Thanks ! Yes i know that but I'm scared it would break when I use it. I have to give it a try.

About the size, I don't know xD I got the Skull first and did it with an aprox size, comparing it with the 1911. Then the other the same, did them comparing with the others. They are not perfectly scaled though. I did my best and I love them pretty much <3333

Hey guys, I need some help, or, I mean .. opinions about smth.
Now that I'm finishing improving on the gun, I'm starting with the katana. When I presented the costume last year I wore a normal dark brown katana. And I've always had the same doubt about it.
Gentle Giant statue shows a "reddish" brown Saya, scabbard.

In the photos of the props it's a LIGHT brown. (also the gun in the photos of the showroom with the costume and props was no chrome-plated at all.)

BUT in the movie, for what I can remember, from one single photo of bdoll's back in the art book, and photos from the movie. It's a standard dark brown.

Or look at this photo. it's like chocolate brown. I'm going mad.

But one thing I'm certain about. it's not LIGHT brown. I must watch the movie again and with moredetail. If someone has a movie screen shot of bdoll's Saya, please post it ^^

The problem is that all these colors are probably correct under the right lighting. What you need is a photo taken in natural sunlight.

What I really found odd though is that at no point in the movie did BD's sword sheath look brown like the screen used pics. It looked like it was very dark brown or black through the entire movie.

It's the same issue I posted about yesterday after watching the movie again. When movie makers edit films and adjust colors digitally, it can change some of the colors. Your absolutely right that the actual prop is light brown/tan like the statue, but appears dark brown on screen. You have to make a choice, do I want mine to look like it does on film, or do I want it to look like the screen-used prop.

I own a screen used shield from the movie 300, and it's the same problem. It's more dark brown than bronze because all of the "shine" was added during editing. Problem is that looks bad when pictures are taken because it dosen't match what's on the movie screen.

You're right. That's why I think I'm going with something like this:

That is a photo with no filters at all. I'll go with a color like that, a brown with a little little little bit of reddish tone. ( i don't know the name of that in English, I think it's said cherry oak or mahogany)

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has a pic showing the skull on the mech bunnies shoulder?

Best I could do, it dosn't show the mech from the right side hardly at all in the movie. There are much more shots of the cherries on the left side.

ARGH! Why is the Art Book so expensive? I have been to every bookstore within 50 miles and nobody has it. Online people are selling it for $150! What the heck? My daughter wants to be Baby Doll for Hallowe'en and I am thinking the only way to get the engraving on the gun and sword even close would be to scan and print them from the artbook. But I can't see spending quite that much on one portion of her costume. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Alright, I have a few questions on Babydoll and Blondie.

Babydoll:

Okay, does anyone know where to get a wig that is like really good quality and looks like a right shade? It doesn't have to come with a headband or in pig tails
And, how would I be able to do the ingravings on the gun and the katana? I'm like really stumped on how I'm doing that. I have the top and bottom figured out though.

(If anyone wants to know how to make a REALLY good replica of Babydoll's skirt, follow the link at the end of the post. Just change the colors of the skirt and add Babydoll's to stripes and the end of the skirt.)

Blondie:

Alright, I have one question regarding Blondie's gun, (picture below) I really want to know what a good replica is. I'm hoping it could be like Nerf or something, because I want to bring it into Disneyland for this Halloween, but I also want to wear it to next years Comic-Con (it sucks I have to wait till next year, otherwise I'd get like an airsoft gun or something.) So does anyone have any ideas on a good gun replica?

The gun she uses is a Heckler and Koch MP5K.

Yeah, I have been running into similar problems, the gun, the saya, and the costume I saw in person did not have a pocket on the breast, but in her pictures there is a pocket.. Who knew Cosplaying could be so hard. :)

You can do the 1911 easy enough. A couple pages back I posted my results of placing decals on a silver 1911. All you really need to do is darken the grips to a more cherry/mahogany color. This'll get you close enough. For a more accurate 1911 you'd need to add a Beaver Tail and there's an emblem of a pair of cherries on her grip as well. I've got a full metal 1911 I'm working on. Should have pics at the end of the week.

I saw this a few days ago, just be careful because this tutorial places a zipper in the back, which the original dosen't have, and dosen't have the seperation on the left thigh. Great place to start though.

As for the sword, I plan on ordering a wooden sword with sheath for $15 when I order martial arts supplies at the end of the month, and I'm planning on wood burning/dremeling the design into it over the summer and painting it.

You'll be able to buy a costume sword closer to Halloween. It's already been licenced.
