Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Costume Finished! Update on Pg7

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

Hey Guys. Alright. So Im off from work and you guys wanted more pictures so here you are. The pictures below are from the leg (looking from the top of the leg down) and you can see theres two rivets near the bottom of the picture and one on each side of the leg keeping the bottom of the articulated parts together. There are no rivets to on the middle of the item as that would inhibit the bending of the part. Im working on the last of my articulation parts and taking pictures along the way so i should be able to help you guys out with a step by step pic tutorial in case the video was a little confusing..( i tend to talk a little quick sometimes. lol)

TMP - im glad it got your wheels turning. If you happen to need more advice please let me know. Maybe i could trade you some info for buying something from you?

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

Hey everyone. I hope you guys can forgive the double post but i wanted to go ahead and post the pic by pic tutorial of the articulation parts for those of you that pm'd me for them. The tutorial is using the trash can that i showed you guys from walmart along with 1/8" x 1/4" rivets. The washers are the 1/8" washers. The dimensions for the leg parts i used were 9" x 1 1/2" and for the arms it was 7" x 1 1/2".

Step 1 - Measure out the pieces you will need and cut accordingly. Once
pieces are cut out, arrange them ontop of eachother in a shingle
style pattern. Refer to image one.

Step 2 - Now that the pieces are ontop of eachother, use a dremel or drill
in order to make the holes. Make them right through the top piece
and through the bottom overlapping piece. Go ahead and add the
rivets with the washers on the other end and secure the rivetts.
Do this down the entire line. Refer to image two.

Step 3 - Bend over the pieces on the other side so that the next row of
rivetts is exactly ontop of the first line of rivetts you made. As you
do this you will quickly notice that as you go down the line, the
pieces will jut out a little more each time. This is exactly what
it should be like. Continue on down the line drilling the holes exactly
ontop of the first line of rivetts you drilled. Refer to image three and
four.

Step 4 - This is the ending result. Cut along the black line i drew out for you
just like in the picture to even out the uneven edge. Once this is
done, add your articulation piece into your leg. Every leg and arm
is different so it will take a little work for you to fit it like you need it
to. Be sure to continually test until you are happy with the result
and rivett it into place. Refer to image five and six.

Step 5 - And thats it!! This process can be used for the arms and legs
(measurements at top). I hope it helps! If anyone still needs any
help with this process after reading the tutorial and watching the
video, feel free to pm me. :)

Also, i have a little someting that came into the mail today (masked riders helmet) while i was working on the tutorial for you guys. Can you guess what it is?

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

does anyone know the name of the light sheet that is put into helmet's eyes but so that at the same time i could see-through???

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

i dont know if you can see through it, but i think you are talking about this? usually there are slits cut into the bottom of the sheet so people can see through it.

thanks!

also have u considered putting them same sort of bendable mechanism on the other sides of your arms and legs (on the elbows and knees)?

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

I've thought about it and played w it bit it doesn't work out like I would like it too. I don't have enough room in my legs and arms for two setd of articulated joints...sadly.

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

Thanks for posting that tut. Starx, you definitely made it easier on those of us who wanted to do something like this but just didn't know how to go about it. We have a pneumatic rivet gun at work so that will make life alot easier on my hands when I go to do this.

Oh and the lights on that helmet look sick! Have you slid it over your cranium yet to see how it fits?

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

I have. But sadly during shipping it received some damage so I'm going to fix it with spot putty first . You guys can expect another video soon of the whole suit on once I get the arc reactor and tweak some things just to show the ,obility.

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

That really sucks to pay so much and wait so long for something just to have it damaged in transit. Is is very bad?

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

it was broken down the side of the jaw. I glued it back together and will spot putty it back to it's full sexiness..lol

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

any ideea if the paint will chip once applied on the articulations? or scratch.

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

They have adhesion promoters like Bull Dog Adhesion promoter to stop this from happening. There are others but this is what I have experience with. You will have some rubbing issues but that is to be expected.

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

What if you put a very thin coat of clear resin? Would that help the scraping?

great tutorial Starx.

if you guys are looking for materials, look for a local Fastenal in your area. They sell sheets of ABS as well as PVC sheets there.

Looking good!!! Really Amazing!!!

Okay so quick question, assuming you have it saved in know, what scale did you use for the arms and shin? These have been driving me insane!

i used the files from dancinfool, and i used 1.520000 as the scale for the entire arm (consisting of his bicep, forearm, and the parts between). Hope that helps bud.

On a side note, what did everyone end up doing for the boots? I cut some openings into the bottom and poured in some resin along with the bottom layer being rubber from an old work shoe i had. Seemed to work fine for what it needs to be but im curious to see if anyone used anything else for it.

It is called EL sheet (electroluminescent sheeting) from what i have been told it is not very bright in rooms with alot of light, better to go with LEDS

Re: Starx- Iron Man MK3 - Articulation Tutorial Vid on last page

No it's not very bright at all. If you looking for the effect of something lighting up and not killing your eyes this would be for you=). I went with LEDS cause I wanted everyone to see it.
