Star Wars: Battlefront

I would love to see a modern version of Rebellion made...

oh man, I really tried to get into that. At the time I was really into RTS, mostly C&C. But Rebellion :confused wow, that was like trying to learn brain surgery in half an hour. Way too over complicated.

A 3D starwars RTS in space... yes please :D

To be honest, like I said, I'd rather have a turn-based games. I dislike most RTS games, since they tend to be more about things like "clicks per second" (a la Starcraft) and base building, and less about actual strategy. The only exception to this is the Total War series, where you just fight your battle with whatever army you have on hand, and everything else is turn based.

I don't remember it being that hard. Granted it's been a looooong time since I've played it, but I seem to remember just having a diplomatic component. You would send a hero to negotiate with a planet to get it on your side.

I'm getting this regardless cause it's SW And looks good.

That's where I am at too. Love Star Wars, and have to get it. May get burned by it, but the ad is playing every time I walk into Best Buy, and it makes me want it more every time I see it.

I would definitely like some sort of turn based or strategy Star Wars game as well. Think the market for that sort of thing is probably pretty small though, unfortunately.

The version I bought didn't come with any instructions manual or anything so I gave up rather quickly :p

It was tricky, but the game did have in-game tutorials. You could pick it up now from GOG (for, like, $6, I think?), and it should come with a manual.

It was a pretty good game (more on the Rebel side -- the Imperial side was kinda meh). What I found was that the RTS combat (which was space combat) was...a nice try, but poorly executed. And ugly as sin, even back then. I didn't really mind, though, and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Empire at War was kind of its spiritual successor, but I honestly found it to be kinda meh. The space battles were great, but the ground battles kinda sucked.

Maybe stop walking into Best Buy? :)

Yeah, sadly turn-based strategy games aren't really a huge market, outside of the Civ series. But who knows. Maybe after Ep. 7 comes out, someone will make one...

One thing I've learned about myself is that, when it comes to gaming, I'm most about the immersion - over story and even over action.

Dark Forces scared the **** out of me when I was hiding and could hear that terminator-thing coming for me. I love that. I also loved Doom 3 which was all about immersion.
I loved BF and BF2 but longed for, say, a Death Star map that really looked like the movie. With passable gameplay I could enjoy this very much. For me, the only way they can ruin it is if the maps didn't evoke design of SW (e.g. generic forests, desert and snow maps) or if the gameplay was just completely awful.

weapons need a miss debuff to be more accurate to the movies. Too many hit markers...

Nice footage tho.

I'd be more curious about the unlock/upgrade stuff and whether it's persistent like in the other Battlefield games.

Otherwise...looks like the same old gameplay, really.

hate the jet packs on everyone, also don’t like the outside perspective flying the ships. Why can’t we get a good first person all around game?

y was wondering why i saw everyone jumping around lol. The footage etc looks nice altho from a fps shooter perspective im not yet impressed. Then again like solo1441 said, same old gameplay...

Yeah, wasn't super enthused by the jetpacks either.

In a way, it's similar to previous battlefront games, in that gameplay is designed to be "spammy," as I term it.

The basic point is speed, and just rapid firing at everything all the time. Weapons are low damage, too.

This was one of my complaints with the previous games, too. Weapons just felt like generic console game weapons with a Star Wars skin. It takes 3-6 hits on a player to kill them, regardless of the weapon, most shooting is hipfiring or long-range sniping (e.g., no iron sights, so to speak), and accuracy is affected more by conefire than player skill. Movement is designed to be fast and chaotic.

I mean, none of this comes as a surprise. DICE's recent games have all been this way. Nobody's making Red Orchestra: Ostfront with a Star Wars skin, ya know? But it just...I dunno....kills the real "Star Wars" feel for me. It made sense to have ARC troopers use jetpacks or for the hero Boba Fett character to have a jetpack, but not everyone. From the look of it, player skill isn't really super important. The goal is charge, continually fire and don't worry about aim much, and jump around a ton.

Kinda reminds me of when X-wing vs. Tie Fighter came out and there was such an emphasis on missile use. Like, these things are fine and cool in and of themselves...but you're making a STAR WARS game, so that whole flavor doesn't really fit with the universe.

Now, I don't claim to be a stormtrooper expert but, isn't the helmet supposed to have silver "teeth"? The mouth is all black... did the ST play a little too much hockey? :lol

Why are rebels running around with imperial blasters??

"Lets deal with these stormtroopers!"
Um :confused those are snow troopers?

Why are imperial snowtroopers running around with rebel blasters?
Way too many jetpacks.

Great graphics, great sound... just about everything else, I'll paraphrase Admiral Ackbar: it's a crap! :p

To be fair, this too is par for the course with DICE games. You don't use nation-specific weapons, regardless of what faction you play. You're playing the Russians? Cool. Feel free to grab a FAMAS or M-16 or L-85A2. Playing as the U.S. Marines? No problem! There's an SVD sniper rifle for you to select, or you could grab the AK-101, although you might prefer the AN-97 for its burst fire mode. Your choice, of course.

Typically, you end up unlocking more variety as you progress in ranks, and it's never limited to which side you play.

I mean, for what it is, the game looks entertaining. It just doesn't look particularly revolutionary, and isn't anywhere near as "Star Warsy" as it could be. But then, Battlefront 1 and 2 weren't, either.

Well we also see "borrowed" weapons in the OT and snowtroopers are stormtroopers, just more specialized. ESB and ROTJ troopers had black "teeth". These helmets appear to have been scanned from production ROTJ made helmets so you could technically say they are incorrect for scenarios occurring before ROTJ.

And yes, the jetpacks are silly.

Ah
They also use ROTJ vader and ROTJ Luke on Hoth...
