They have already said that this movie will end 10 minutes before epi 4 begins. This says it all for me.
I'm really guessing this movie must end very close to the start of Star Wars. Heck, I half expect it to end with someone handing the plans to a certain Princess (the back of her head- no face) telling the Captain to set a course for Tatooine, and the ship taking off. End Credits Roll.
And I'd be pretty damned happy to see that

I agree with this guess, but I don't think anyone will be 'handing' Leia anything- "Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by rebel spies".

Why? I think aside from visual eye candy, it wouldn't make sense for them not to be able to in the star wars universe. The capital ships during the clone wars were shown in atmosphere at the end of Episode 2
I know this is Star Wars but the physics of it make zero sense. Zooming across the atmosphere... perhaps, but hovering... no.
Pointing to the prequels, is hardly a winning argument.![]()
Well aside from being fictional, that criticism to be fair is based on our current understanding of physics.
Now where´s the sarcasm icon?
Regarding the look and feel, this is the most intense and grim looking Star Wars movie trailer that I have seen to date. We are looking forward to a drama, we are looking at THE ultimate weapon, and although we know that a single proton torpedo shot into the not so well engineered ventilation shaft of that doomsday machine, we do not know the outcome for all of those characters.
On a side note, I would really love to see an engineer come up to Krennik and say something like "Sir, I need you to sign this form so the Geonosians are officially reminded to come up with a solution to make that 2 metre wide exhaust port proton torpedo proof." and get a "Not know, can´t you see that I am busy with the Rebellion?!" "Alright, I will put it on for resubmission.

So, we will go with: 'A wizard did it', any time a director does something stupid, because it looks cool.
I'm wondering if the ventilation shaft is a deliberately well PLANNED and concealed weakness. Given that Jyns father seems to be involved under unhappy circumstances, and perhaps the first test firing seems to have gone slightly wrong perhaps as an act of sabotage , the DS maybe have been flawed by him and others because of the monstrous nature of the weapon. It kind of makes sense that the scientists ,as an act of rebellion, draft in a way of destroying the station, and the data Jyn retrieves from Scarif shows exactly this, just as we have seen in 'A New Hope' in the data R2 is carrying.

I guess we should burn those who believe the earth is round and that man can fly on the steak while we're at it?

I think you win the Goddard award of the day! Congratulations! You took a silly conversation about a movie and flipped over it.

I would be disappointed if the shaft was a planned weakness. Then to leave such a colossal achievement at the mercy of one person to deliver those plans? I mean, it could be plausible, but I'd just be disappointed in that.
I think you're along the right line that it was someone working there that noted the flaw, being a rebel sympathizer, seeing the colossal destructive nature of the DS, deciding to get that to the rebels.
Wait... Didn't they say in A New Hope, that they analysed the plans, and it was then that the weakness was discovered? That would imply that the weakness wasn't known before. So it could really be just a last ditch effort to get those plans in the hands of the rebellion before the station heads off blowin' stuff up.
There's the rub. Is this OUR universe, or another fantastic universe?
Personally, Star Wars has always been a complete fantasy, with absolutely no ties to our world. I don't want to know how things work there, or try to make sense of it in a practical way here. I'd just leave it at their universe works differently.
