Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

I gotta say, I was impressed with everything I've seen up until now. I am very much looking forward to this movie, but only a couple of shots in this new trailer stood out to me.

Not that it was bad, but it is missing something and I can't put my finger on it.

Lightsabers :(

Both true, but that's not it.

I just watched it again. It's the performances. There is absolutely no emotion in the delivery of any of the dialog. Some pretty cool looking shots, but when anyone speaks it comes across as boring.

I know it's just a trailer, but this one just didn't grab me.

That being said, it's just a glimpse at the finished film. I am VERY interested in seeing what they do with this movie. : )

Totally agree. I think the first trailer was a lot better.

This feels more like a STAR WARS story than TFA ever will to me ... yet, for me, it will never ever be the same without good old George at the helm and his visionairy input :wacko

I literally got the chills watching it.
Some of the most visually arresting shots I've ever seen in a SW film. That SD coming out of the shadows, the Walker shaking its head like a wounded elephant, the X wings attacking in the rain, the DS eclipsing the sun over the planet and that Tie fighter appearing at the edge of the platform.Stunning.
It does look like Jedha gets fired upon by the DS though, which surprised me, with that shot of the DS rotating its dish towards it, then we see what looks like a considerable amount of the planets surface being ripped up. That suggests its not yet fully up to power ( or is there a partial failure with the laser?) However the DS does look like its structurally complete at this point, if not yet fully operational, which again surprised.
Which begs the question as to why there is this huge fight on Scarif? Is it that the building we see in the sea is the Imperial intelligence headquarters that holds all the data? There are obviously grounds for the larger scale Rebel assault upon it, and it appears that Jyn has her group collected from Jedha for the attack, but I thought the DS was being built there?
If they go with the rebels winning their first victory here on Scarif then things may not be as grim for the cast as we quite imagined. And I am wondering if some of the reshots that have happened to change the outcomes for various cast members. Jyn is coming across as a bit of a dodgy female Han Solo, so there is room to do alot more with her character and some of the others later on if they want to continue with their story arcs further on.
I was very thrilled by nearly all of what I saw here. This looks and feels so much a companion piece to the OT in the tone, cinematography and cruciallly the designs.Kudos to everyone involved, it must have been a joy to work on this, with so many old favorites involved.
I just loved it. It turned the clock back nearly forty years in the blink of an eye!

I'm disappointed that there wasn't a dance number in it,....I'm gonna hate this film now

Yeah, I was think that to. And a better love story. Vader needs some romance in his life so I'm thinking he takes Jyn out on a date, gets cruelly rejected by her for force choking a waiter for bring them over cooked bantha steaks ( I SAID well done, not burnt to a crisp!!!!) ,takes it badly again (NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!) and toasts Jedah. And penguins. They are always good for laughs, lets have some penguins in it at an Imperial sea world attraction on Scarif. And Vader could bring on his crack squad of performing Death Clowns for our general amusement .

Now where´s the sarcasm icon? :p

The funny thing is that George himself always wanted the Star Wars SERIES of movies to be a franchise with a lot of different directors providing their views of Star Wars. That was the initial (!) plan. It was HIS idea to have the franchise branch out into Star Wars Stories. So complaining about GL not giving input or his "visionary input" missing is ... missing the point, because this is exactly what he once had envisioned. And without this we wouldn´t have Star Wars Stories anyway.

Regarding the look and feel, this is the most intense and grim looking Star Wars movie trailer that I have seen to date. We are looking forward to a drama, we are looking at THE ultimate weapon, and although we know that a single proton torpedo shot into the not so well engineered ventilation shaft of that doomsday machine, we do not know the outcome for all of those characters.

On a side note, I would really love to see an engineer come up to Krennik and say something like "Sir, I need you to sign this form so the Geonosians are officially reminded to come up with a solution to make that 2 metre wide exhaust port proton torpedo proof." and get a "Not know, can´t you see that I am busy with the Rebellion?!" "Alright, I will put it on for resubmission.

I think my experiences with suicide squad, star trek beyond, the force awakens and B v. S. has officially put me over the edge with modern flicks. Nothing is worth watching for a second time. Fury road was pretty much the only saving grace in the last five years.

So even though this is a slick trailer, I'm still pretty skeptical.

This says it all for me.

I'm really guessing this movie must end very close to the start of Star Wars. Heck, I half expect it to end with someone handing the plans to a certain Princess (the back of her head- no face) telling the Captain to set a course for Tatooine, and the ship taking off. End Credits Roll.

And I'd be pretty damned happy to see that
