Rocketeer Cirrus X-3 Rocket Pack Build

Hi just wondering where you got your helmet from.
I bought it here in the Junkyard about 5 years ago. I'm not sure who made it but it came as you see it in the photos. The fin is a separate piece that I will glue on.

Wolf: looking at your recent pictures, it appears you resorted to same thing I’m about to do: did you plan on getting the flap rods to cut through the bottom rear portion of the jetpack, and into the 2 holes on the “egg”?

I see no other way of getting the rods to go straight though from the flaps to the egg. Not ideal but oh well.

The other idea I have is to transition the rods halfway into a flexible metallic hose or similar, and curve it around the rear into the egg.

Since that photo was taken, I've filled in those holes on the back. I totally messed up what I was trying to do and couldn't get them to line up properly. The problem I ran into was my own fault. When I originally tried to marry all the pieces together, I attempted to use a piece of wooden dowel inside the small bottom tube part that was screwed in from both sides. It held fine until it didn't and fell out of place, but by then, everything was already riveted into place and I couldn't remove it without breaking stuff. There is now a threaded rod holding it all together and it works great, but there's a huge hunk of wood inside preventing me from properly drilling holes at the correct angle to make the rods meet the egg holes. Considering that whole portion will be covered by the harness and won't even be seen, I think I might just fake something or ignore the problem entirely. I'll see what happens as I move forward with the harness construction.

Thanks for the detailed anecdote. :)
I will go the flexible shielding route and try not to look at it often. :))))

My OCD wants to have the rods properly lined up. But the model I have does NOT allow for that at any angle.

How’s your project coming along wolf?
My paint guy is making progress. He sent me a couple sample photos yesterday and I like the direction he's going. As soon as I have some photos worth showing, I'll definitely post updates.

Thanks for inquiring!

As a matter of fact yes! My paint guy made a couple of passes and we got the color pretty close to some reference photos of the screen used pack. He's finishing it up this week and I should have a couple of big updates soon. I'm very excited! Stay tuned!

My painter friend delivered on the goods yesterday. Here are the colors he used:
Gold on top is a GM automotive paint - Cashmere Beige Code 929d
Black ring is Diamont d403
Silver color was mixed on the fly with fine flake silvers and pearl whites to get it to look a little more dull like the movie prop.

These are all automotive paints with a 50% flattener clear coat. This has the such a neat feel to it. It's smooth and doesn't leave fingerprints.

Dude it looks TERRIFIC. Colors are spot on!

Hey your center hull is sitting way too low. You are meant to align the seventh rivet top to bottom on that hull, with the horizontal rows of Rivets on the tanks. Are you still able to do that or too late?[emoji51]

You are correct. I realize that but unfortunately, since this isn't a kit, just various parts cobbled together to make a thing, it's as close as I could get. The diameter of the engine tubes is actually a little smaller than the screen used pack by about a half an inch and the 3D printed center piece I'm using is designed for different tubes altogether. I had to use a heat gun to mold my center piece to fit at all. The disparity is less noticeable once the upper heat sink grill is installed.

Oh ok understood. I was afraid your top radiator wouldn’t even fit properly in relation to the rest of the kit. Looks like you have it all taken care of then. [emoji106]

In my opinion, there are never enough of these builds! Yours looks fantastic; great job! My next step is to try and make progress on the leather harness. Also, on a side note, be careful when you search "leather harness" photos, make sure to put "Rocketeer" in the search. Otherwise, you'll see some stuff you probably don't want to see.
