Rankin-Bass Rudolph puppets - re-creations?

Here is my finished Santa With Rudolph. Got Hermey's hands and feet made too. Love Super Sculpey!!!!!! They aren't flexible yet, but will be when I get some tinted silicon. I'll make them with a wire armature. I'm happy with these results though. :)

Very nice, Vaderdarth. I particularly like Santa's beard. Thanks for posting the photos. Look forward to seeing Hermey when he's done.

Thanks man. Santa's beard was a total u know what!!!!! Now that I know how it's done, I'm not as intimidated by it as I was last year.....hence waiting until now to finish. Same deal with Hermey's hair, I may have a plan. Gonna try it this week if at all possible.

Dave :)

For those of you making gloves for your puppets.............I suggest using double stretch white spandex. It stretches in both directions. This will be the best form fitting gloves you could make.

For the beard, I made a simple wire U shape. To the relative size I wanted. The ends of the U would become the hooks that go over the ears.

Then I cut a piece of foam rubber shaped like a tapered ended sausage. I cut a slit half way thru it from end to end. Put the wire inside it and glued the slit closed.

Then took sections of santa wig and glued them starting on the back sweeping the hair over the front and glue again once it reaches the back. I did the same at the sides except I twirled it up the wire ends and glued it at the tips to secure. Voila!

Dave :)

Now that I know I can do it, I'm gonna re-beard my toy santa that's a foot tall. I may also make a rudolph scaled to that santa. :)

They are not easy, I wouldn't do it for less than $800 it's just so time consuming. Use the photos on the web of the actual puppets and give it a go yourself. It's far more rewarding to make it with your own hands anyway. The hardest part is learning to sew a nice clean stitch. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Yeah, Im with you. How do you price something like this?

Just too time consuming, and it would probably be priced out of the range of most. I know I could not afford to pay someone to do it.

vaderdarth,

Did you ever finish your Hermey the Elf replica? If so, would love to see it. Happy Holidays,

Pumpernickel
