Rankin-Bass Rudolph puppets - re-creations?

Sam appears to be the same height as Yukon and Santa. Not pictured is Clarice. If you search for Ashton Drake Rudolph HSN, there is a video introducing these figures and Clarice is in there. Her head angle is much better than Rudolph's.
If that's the case, I don't believe that these are accurate to the scale of the original. I already had my suspensions on the accuracy of their 1:1 scale as I noticed that they may have cut corners with Hermey's height by making his hat way longer than it should be.

If we take a look at this original display of some of the puppets, we can see that Sam is about the same height as Santa. Santa at this point, already seems to have damaged leg armature or is posed sitting down. I'm still almost positive that the original Yukon stands at 15 inches. The Ashton Drake one is 13 inches I believe.

If anyone would consider letting me have their 3D print files for the Rudolph parts, I'd be forever in your debt.

Aei has my 3D model file listed with his pattern from it on cults3D here: D.I.Y. Rudolph - 3D Printable Head + Body + Hooves + Sewing Pattern (No Tutorial)

But if you want it without the pattern, I can upload just the 3D modeled parts to my own cults3D as a free private file if you want to help us perfect any builds off of it! (So like, you could totally critique my model if you think it could be improved bc that would be very cool.)

... I've been making patterns using UV maps a lot lately so I might be able to get a workable pattern from a model if I can model them accurately.
Otherwise, just more bases to print and work from I guess! It's a touch more accurate that way.

Nathahniel & AelithArt's Rankin Bass Rudolph 3D print files: https://cults3d.com/:1875965
(hosted by AelithArt from here on his cults3D bc he's added his WIP prototype pattern!)
Here's all the stuff that the download includes.
(Adding screenshot here for visibility in case anyone is scrolling through here in the future like how I pretty much read the whole thread from it's 2008 start lmao.)

Def lmk if you think it needs any additions, subtractions, or any form of adjustments changes, etc. I can knock them out super quick on a lil dude this simple! I think one of my concerns last year was that his hooves were a little wide.

Happy December and the 60th Anniversary of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!
I wanted to share my thoughts on the recent Ashton-Drake figure release, which I believe is the best in their 1:1 scale figure line so far. Sam the Snowman, the fifth issue in the set, stands out in terms of design and craftsmanship.

Sam feels the most accurate compared to the other figures in the collection as the rest of the figures lean on the updated Bent Image Lab designs. This figure stays truer to the original special in my opinion. At around 10 inches tall, Sam is beautifully crafted with remarkable attention to detail.

One unique feature of this figure is his removable clothing. His vest and shirt have sewn-in Velcro, allowing them to be taken off easily. None of the other figures in the line have this feature, so I wonder if it’s because Sam’s white shirt might require more cleaning over time.

However, there are some inaccuracies. His hands, for example, are sculpted with a snow-like texture, showing that he doesn’t have gloves as he should. While this detail isn’t accurate, it doesn’t bother me too much.

On another note, his pocket watch is a standout detail, beautifully made and likely 3D-printed.

Sam also comes with two accessories: the squirrel from the "Silver and Gold" song and his banjo. Both are intricately made and well-painted, using a ceramic-like material that feels heavy and fragile.

The squirrel even holds his piece of gold, which is a delightful touch.

Unfortunately, my figure arrived with some damage. The back of the banjo has a noticeable crack, though it doesn’t show from the front. Still, it’s disappointing, especially given the figure’s $120 price tag. This isn’t the first time I’ve received an Ashton-Drake figure with quality control issues—whether it’s a damaged piece or a manufacturing defect, I’ve yet to receive one in perfect condition.

Despite this, the figure’s packaging is well-done. Sam comes securely held in a standard, zero Rudolph-branded box, Ashton-Drake box :/, so I suspect the damage occurred before or during packing rather than in transit.

Overall, if you’re a collector of Rudolph replicas or are making them as we have been on the thread, this figure is worth the investment if you want a Sam the Snowman. Despite the minor flaws.

He also looks great with the rest of the set too. If you wanna know my thoughts on the rest, I'd be happy to share what I think. I'm also hoping to get back on the Rudolph Replica stuff. But we'll see how that goes.

“His watch is likely 3-D printed”? It is clearly 3-D printed. To me, that is the biggest corner they cut. They didn’t even attempt to try and fill the print lines.

It's honestly not that bad, Moviefreak. The watch is small and the print lines are hardly noticeable unless being looked at closely and in a brightly lit area. It's fine, and I wouldn't say it's a corner cut. We all have our ways of creating our works, 3-D printed or hand-sculpted. Even licensed work.

I'm kind of new here, but, just curious, how large would a light bulb for Rudolph's nose be/are there good substitutes? I understand it was custom but are there any similar spherical LEDs that exist?

for the nose, I'd use a very small LED, use a clear plastic bead the correct size, then drill a hole and hot glue or epoxy the LED into the bead. after its dry, paint it with a a gloss red paint. when lighted it should play the part well.
