Hasbro Pulse has a 1984 version of the proton pack up for pre-order now ($299). Release date is March 2026. I missed out on the Afterlife pack so I put my order in. Anyone else getting one?

1984 Pack

Gear up for supernatural excitement with the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Proton Pack (1984) from Hasbro! Featuring premium, classic-inspired design and detailing, this 1:1-scale role play toy re-creates the original Proton Pack, as seen in 1984’s Ghostbusters. With 25 LEDs and SFX from the movie, fans can experience what it feels like to be a pack-wielding member of the Ghostbusters! Other cool features include a removable cyclotron, USB-C power supply option, and removable ribbon cable. Imagine chasing Slimer through the Sedgewick or roasting the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man before he can stomp all over New York City. Look for more Ghostbusters toys for boys and girls to collect, including action figures, the Ecto-1 Ghostbusters car toy, and role play toys, to build an eerily awesome collection. (Each sold separately. Subject to availability.) Ghostbusters merchandise makes great gifts for kids, collectors, and fans. The Proton Pack (1984) also makes a great addition to any costume.

Same. I’m still kicking myself for missing the HasLab, so I jumped on this right away. Really hoping the only difference is the finish/weathering and they didn’t cut out any features or simplify any parts to make it cheaper.

It doesn't look like it includes the display stand so that's missing.

But it has USB rechargeable battery and no time-outs, so that's a huge plus. A lot of people modded their Afterlife packs just to address those two things.

That [expletive deleted] me off. I only backed the Afterlife pack, because it was better than nothing... this is what I really wanted. Now those of us that funded their development have the option to buy the version we really wanted? Very generous of them.

It's great for those of you that missed out, but it's kind of [expletive deleted] for those of us that funded it.

I can't help but feel shafted for going in on the Afterlife pack for $400, when they offer the OG version for $300.

The justification for Haslab is that it's for items that couldn't be made available at retail, but now it turns out they CAN make this Proton Pack as a "retail ready" item ?? Boo on that.

I got the email this morning, but at the time the Proton Pack was only for premium members and was pretty bummed out.
So, I'm glad now that everyone can buy one because I don't have premium membership and depending how long the preorder is, I do want one.

For price comparison,
The Afterlife pack was $399 (without membership slime pieces), and you got the proton pack stand, 4 marshmallows goo pieces, 3 burnt mini stay pufts figures, 2 sticker sheets, and Egons notebook.

At $299 for the 1984 Pack without all the extras, I think $300 is still a great price.
And if you're lucky you could find the Afterlife extra pieces on Ebay for reasonable prices.

But does anybody know how long the pre-order will be up?

It was exclusive to premium members for one hour only. Any one can pre-order it now so you should be good to go.

I'm happy for all of the folks that missed out on the AL pack. I spent quite a bit converting mine to an '84 but oh well. I did sell my extras to offset the cost. Now the question is should I have two proton packs...

Wow, this is tempting. How’s the quality from Hasbro? Anyone know how difficult it is to find one the compatible wands?

Only two? I'm on 3 at the moment, this will make 4 lol

Reminder this doesn’t come with the 84 wand, so it’s really $400 for a full pack and wand

This would have melted people's brains 10-15 years ago. I get some people feeling a little butthurt if they bought the Afterlife pack, but this is a great opportunity for people to finally have a proton pack. It's great as-is and with a very small amount of modification these things look awesome. Excited that people have a chance to grab one again. And this is coming from someone who's built multiple packs over the years and has spent the last couple slowly modding my Haslab to a GB2 pack.

I'm not super surprised that Hasbro's doing this release, because I've always figured they were keeping the option in their back pocket. Crowdfunding campaigns generally need to promise some sort of exclusivity to get people to buy in, so making the Afterlife pack for the HasLab made a lot of sense at the time - it tied in with the most recent movie, they had access to the nice new filming props for accuracy, and they could intentionally design it to be possible to convert to an '84 pack to make things easier for modders (and themselves down the road). If the campaign had been only modestly successful, then it would have been a one-and-done Afterlife pack that would still be a great base for an '84 conversion. But since it seems to have gone well and most of the R&D is now out of the way, a few years later we get a more affordable, more easily available release that is closer to what most people wanted all along.

As somebody who used to play in his backyard with an improvised pack and wand, I'm pretty pleased that there are finally toys replicas like these!
