Plot points created to get women's clothing off.

Question for KnightAsylum and Zombie_61: did you even read the first post in the thread before posting, or did you just read the title and come in guns blazing??
For the record I did read the enitre thread, I did not misinterpret the subject of the thread, nor was I attempting to make a comment on the merits of this discussion; I was merely responding to KnightAsylum's post. Sometimes forum threads, like face-to-face conversations in real life, deviate from the original topic slightly. And since I could not think of a specific instance in which a plot point was devised for the sole purpose of having an actor disrobe (though I know I've seen many over the years) I did not comment further. I apologize if I've spoiled your fun Mr. Munson.

Anyone ever see the movie "HOTS"? It got played constantly back in the 80's on Cinemax. The whole flick was designed to get women out of their clothes.

You mean this scene. (Sorry, couldn't find the full one, as whoever put up the clip wanted to get "to the good part" sooner)

That's the one - this thread is starting to remind me a bit of the movies
that this Kenny Everett character was always promoting.

[Warning - if you're not familiar with Kenny Everett's "Cupid" character, try not to look directly at her the first time. I don't want to cause anyone permanent eye damage :eek]

I'll defend the Alien scene.

It's a smart storytelling trick to wind down the audience and distract them before the final encounter. It's the end of the movie. Ripley has defeated the beast and is going to bed and finally let's down her guard. When she is found defenseless, naked and exposed she must once again "gear up" and tackle the alien face to face.

Naked girls and good storytelling can go together in a smart way... but usually don't. :)

However this also comes to mind-

"Okie dokie" LOL, gotta love the Simpsons.

I agree with Nick about Alien; I mean, who sleeps with all their clothes on? lol However, in Matt's defense, I think you can see Lambert's breasts in the hypersleep scene, which I think is a bit much.

Anyways, there's a subplot in Italian Job where Seth Green's character wants a stereo system that's so loud it can blow the clothes off of chicks. During the epilogue that plays during the credits, you can see he gets the stereo and tells some girl to stand in front of it only to hear ripping and shrieking offscreen while Seth's laughing. More of a comedic joke than a major plot point, but worth mentioning IMO.

In Undercover Brother there is the knowing nod to bad plot points created to get women's clothing off.
At 3:06 in this clip you see the two female leads fighting, tearing each other's clothes and eventually ending up in a shower. The reactions by Eddie Griffin are hilarious!

The girls are wearing small straps across their chests. Revealing, yes, but nothing explicit. Not much worse than Milla Jovovich's outfit in The Fifth Element. You have to look closely at the screen to even tell that it's Lambert at all, since it was a coverage shot and not a close-up.

Ridley did say in the commentary that he shot it both ways, and the studio went with the "covered" version.

Star Trek and Sci-Fi is one of the worst offenders for 'women in the skimpy costume' thang.

Wasn't that called the "Theiss theory of tittilation" which basically held that the more likely to fall off a woman's clothing looks, the sexier it is percieved to be? :lol

In the Italian Job doesn't the main female lead practice cracking safes with her iPod without a top (but with a bra)? I might be remembering that wrong, it's been a while...

Edited to remove Speaker reference as I just saw it in MrSinister's post..

I would also like to point out the "changing" scenes in countless movies.

Typically the female character is in some form of casual wear, normally something they wore to bed. The male character shows up (not always a love interest), sometimes early, sometimes with a gift of clothing, or just early and waiting for the female character. The female character either:
A) Goes into her room to change (and the camera stays on her instead of following the male, or the male tries to spy on her through the cracked door or the keyhole).
B) Goes behind a small partition to change, throwing her clothes over the top of the partition (so we KNOW she's not wearing anything behind the partition). This sometimes has the added "start stripping before she even gets to the partition" added in - as if she's so excite to get naked she can't wait, but will take her time getting dressed.
C) Tells the male to turn around so she can get dressed right there. Our perspective, of course, is facing the male and just enough of the female to know she's stripping, but not actually see anything.

Usually, we get some hint that she quickly disrobes, but takes her time getting dressed (and the undergarments being the longest to put on) - after all, the dressing scene has to last an entire conversation!

The complaint isn't about the nudity, it's about Hollywood going to the trouble of creating stupid plot devices in order to get the character's naked. It's a complaint about ****-poor writing, not adult content.
There's nothing stupid about getting some good nudity in a movie. Forgetting Sarah Marshal did it quite well! And the Hangover 2:lol

You guys are thinking too hard - this sort of "plot point" is in almost every movie now, and in much more recent ones...

Iron Man 2 - scarlett Undressing in the back seat to change into her superhero outfit

40 Year old virgin - Remember Beth's bath scene? Is it considered a "plot point" if the whole point is she's a ****?

Fantastic Four - Alba undressing so she can be fully "invisible"

Game of Thrones - last episode. Chick sets fire to herself, her husband, crazy women and three dragon eggs, and her clothes burn off.

Cowboys and Aliens - when the chick died and was thrown in the fire to be resurrected, weren't her clothes burned off too?

Her Highness - I think there's was a scene where Portman took a bath in the lake

Tomb Raider intro where she has to take a shower after beating up the robot.

ROTJ - Jabba makes Leia wear the gold bikini... he could have just as easily made her vacuum or serve drinks...but nope - sit here on my slimy tail in a gold bikini.

Sorry - no youtube links - I"m at work

In the commentary for the FARSCAPE episode Jeremiah Crichton, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Rockne O'Bannon and David Kemper have a hilarious discussion about how the guys attempted to get Claudia's clothes off in an episode.

Browder spins this elaborate tale of BS to justify why Aeryn needed to take off her clothes and fight 3 "evil guards" while completely nude.

First off, there's a good chance that they were all joking. One of the things about Ben and company, they love joking around when it comes to talking about the show. Hell, one time, Ben described the show as, "The kind of show where even Stark could get pregnant, and you're left wondering who left the room hitching up their pants afterwards." There's other interviews and questions they've answered in public where the cast and crew have joked around playfully. Heck, I saw Virginia Hey jokingly spanking a few fans during the Farscape panel at DragonCon and recalling some of the funny moments of the show (and frankly, it wouldn't be Farscape panel without those two things happening).

But I think Farscape shouldn't be included in this post as the sexuality was a part of the show's overall design. I mean, the difference between Farscape and the bit with Hoshi losing her top in Enterprise is the fact that sexuality is designed and present in Farscape while Star Trek in general barely has sexuality in one show by itself (even if you combined all the episodes that feature sexuality from all the shows, all the scenes together wouldn't equal the amount featured in Farscape, because Star Trek isn't design for sexuality to be as present). The difference between the nudity and sex scene in the Dawn of the Dead remake (which I made reference to) and the film of Basic Instinct is that Basic Instinct was purposefully designed with sexuality as a part of its core design, whereas the DOTD remake had it in there just because they could (and possibly because to make sure that the film had an R-Rating).

If you guys feel that I'm wrong and that Farscape should be included, then the OP needs to edit the original post to include stories that are purposefully designed include sex and sexuality in the work, as the original post implies scenes that were just purposefully written and thrown in because it was expected, when sex and sexuality was not a part of the initial design from the get-go).

Not necessarily. "Purposely planned" doesn't necessarily mean it's not still poorly written. If they do it on purpose, it's all the better.

There were plenty of cheesy way for women to get their clothes off in Farscape. It wasn't always a 'master of writing'.

I just watched that on On Demand and I have a complaint about that. We don't even get to see Olivia Wilde's *ss in that scene. Everything is covered. That doesn't even count. :lol
