This is my single most eye rolling thing I ever see in movies and TV. I have to believe that the writing team is often under the gun to come up with a way to get the lead actresses separated from her clothing ,but in some "clever" way. Here are some of the more cringe-worthy ones that come up off the top of my head when I think about it:

    1. An early episode of "Birds of Prey." The lead protagonist gets trapped in... a suana with a local police officer. In order to survive, they have to take off their clothes.

    2. A second season episode of "Human Target." The female lead in the show goes undercover with a heist crew to expose them. Her role in the heist? Strip down and oil up so she can slide through the narrow ventilation shaft in order to get into position.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqc4ZbtLDAg

    3. Alien. Ripley has to strip down to her undies to go into hibernation.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EEiWxgcCSg

    Anyone else have any?

This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode that centered around an attempt to go see a dubbed imported soft porn movie called "Rochelle, Rochelle". Its soundtrack is heard briefly, and it includes the line "we'd better get you out of those wet clothes--you'll catch your death of cold!"

What about every single episode of Enterprise where the crew has to go through decontamination after being on some planet? :lol

(Though some part of wants to believe that the creators of the show were kinda poking fun by making it so blatant... at least I HOPE that was the case...)

    Seconded!

Or...Blowfish......just sunbathing topless here....though I think the writing on the check had more to do with that than anything else.

Ack, I forgot about what a travesty that was. And no, I don't think Berman and Bragga know the meaning of subtlety. I think that was their best hope of drawing viewers in.

The sad thing about decontamination on Enterprise is that it wasn't bad enough that you had to strip down. No, you had to have lotion rubbed all... over... your... body.

Yeah the decontamination bit in Enterprise was the first thing I thought of as well.

How about Star Trek V: Kirk and Spock need a diversion on Nimbus III.

They get Uhura to strip naked, and do an exotic dance... complete with feather fans (which are obviously Starfleet issue).

    Really? :rolleyes

EDIT- after watching the link (since I haven't watched this movie in a loooong time) I realized they were not feather fans- probably local plant leaves.

This is also used on males in chick movies like the Twilight saga. Bella barely bumps her head from falling of a bike and Jacob (wolf guy) thinks it's a good idea to take his shirt off....You hear the reaction from the female viewers.:rolleyes

The most absurd case of this I have seen is from Galaxy of Terror when Taaffe O'Connellis is stripped, oiled, and given the one two by a giant slug/maggot simply because she is afraid of creepy crawly things. Roger Corman movies are always good for a bit of inspired nudity. :lol

Not sure if this really fits the theme of a plot point created to get women's clothing off but what the hell.

Star Trek and Sci-Fi is one of the worst offenders for 'women in the skimpy costume' thang.

There were a few movies where the actress stripped down 'to prove a point' about her determination or something. The director must say; "it's vital to the integrity of your character and the script". And then they find out the actress wasn't even that great looking naked. Oops.

I can't remember the names because they were lousy movies anyway. A naked woman might add to a movie, but doesn't change it from lousy to good.

Sarah Connor stripping down with Kyle is the opposite. It wasn't about sex, it was Love. It fit the situation.

Eh, I dunno. I would cite the shower scene as plain ol' gratuitous. No better/worse than a sex scene.

But it's not one of those story points that is forced into play IN ORDER to get the people to take their clothes off. For example, if, after being attacked by bugs, they had to all strip down and shower in order to wash off radiation particles, THAT would qualify. lol

Under the influence of a bug in her head, Kelly Carlson gets nekked to seduce another soldier.

Best part of that movie other than the end credits.

How about the terrible Dawn of the Dead remake? Not once, but twice. The first time is where Sarah Polly's character is spied on by one of the security guards, as she changes her clothes from the PJs caked in blood she was wearing to a fresh set of clothes in a store which she just struts through, taking her top off?

The second one, though not as clearly noticeable, when the "prostitute" of the group who has zero character development is apparently trying on sexy underwear, which leads to her having sex with the A-hole of the group?

Didn't Enterprise have an episode where the Asian yeoman (Hoshi? I don't remember) tears her top off on something in the Jeffries Tube? That's the most gratuitous I can remember in a TV series recently.

Of course there are other series where these plots are the whole point - like the WWII era British comic Jane or the Japanese manga/TV cartoon/direct-to-DVD movie series Maicchingu! Machiko-Sensei.

Has Star Trek (2009) been mentioned yet? That had a plot point where Kirk got to hear Uhura talk about the klingon transmission, but it's done in her dorm room and with him peeping on her taking her clothes off. I hate it when the only contribution she has in the film is told past tense just so our peeping tom hero can use it later. I hate you NuKirk.

Wow...I have seen some strange things complained about of the RPF but this takes the cake.

Only in America would this be a topic - we love our gore but get worked up over some nude folks.:unsure

The complaint isn't about the nudity, it's about Hollywood going to the trouble of creating stupid plot devices in order to get the character's naked. It's a complaint about ****-poor writing, not adult content.

Holy moley, youre right! They LITERALLY do the "oh noes, we need to take a shower to get all the toxins off us!!!" shot. You're right!

I remember in one of the BTS specials for that movie, they fully confessed that the scene was deliberately written in order to get Ursulas clothes off.

    Good call, sir!

In the commentary for the FARSCAPE episode Jeremiah Crichton, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Rockne O'Bannon and David Kemper have a hilarious discussion about how the guys attempted to get Claudia's clothes off in an episode.

Browder spins this elaborate tale of BS to justify why Aeryn needed to take off her clothes and fight 3 "evil guards" while completely nude.

Well, IF that was the topic under discussion, I could see how that would be confusing. However, it's not. As has already been corrected. Twice.

Perhaps a thread about people who misinterpret a thread, follow up by not reading it, then add insult to their own injury by posting about how lame it is ... would make for a great thread of your own. :lol

Question for KnightAsylum and Zombie_61: did you even read the first post in the thread before posting, or did you just read the title and come in guns blazing??

I'm just having a hard time figuring out why this topic is such a hard one to grasp. It's really not that hard. Plot points that are forcefully contrived by writers in order to get women out of their clothes. Things that make very little sense in the overall story, but are there in order to accomplish that one goal. THAT is what the discussion is about. Seems that a few people "get it" and are having some fun with it.

Why bother coming into a thread and getting all judgmental and condescending? Makes it even worse that you're getting condescending and judgmental about something that is not even out for discussion.

For the record I did read the enitre thread, I did not misinterpret the subject of the thread, nor was I attempting to make a comment on the merits of this discussion; I was merely responding to KnightAsylum's post. Sometimes forum threads, like face-to-face conversations in real life, deviate from the original topic slightly. And since I could not think of a specific instance in which a plot point was devised for the sole purpose of having an actor disrobe (though I know I've seen many over the years) I did not comment further. I apologize if I've spoiled your fun Mr. Munson.

that this Kenny Everett character was always promoting.

    I'll defend the Alien scene.

It's a smart storytelling trick to wind down the audience and distract them before the final encounter. It's the end of the movie. Ripley has defeated the beast and is going to bed and finally let's down her guard. When she is found defenseless, naked and exposed she must once again "gear up" and tackle the alien face to face.

Naked girls and good storytelling can go together in a smart way... but usually don't. :)

However this also comes to mind-

"Okie dokie" LOL, gotta love the Simpsons.

I agree with Nick about Alien; I mean, who sleeps with all their clothes on? lol However, in Matt's defense, I think you can see Lambert's * in the hypersleep scene, which I think is a bit much.

Anyways, there's a subplot in Italian Job where Seth Green's character wants a stereo system that's so loud it can blow the clothes off of chicks. During the epilogue that plays during the credits, you can see he gets the stereo and tells some girl to stand in front of it only to hear ripping and shrieking offscreen while Seth's laughing. More of a comedic joke than a major plot point, but worth mentioning IMO.

In Undercover Brother there is the knowing nod to bad plot points created to get women's clothing off.
At 3:06 in this clip you see the two female leads fighting, tearing each other's clothes and eventually ending up in a shower. The reactions by Eddie Griffin are hilarious!

The girls are wearing small straps across their chests. Revealing, yes, but nothing explicit. Not much worse than Milla Jovovich's outfit in The Fifth Element. You have to look closely at the screen to even tell that it's Lambert at all, since it was a coverage shot and not a close-up.

Ridley did say in the commentary that he shot it both ways, and the studio went with the "covered" version.

In the Italian Job doesn't the main female lead practice cracking safes with her iPod without a top (but with a bra)? I might be remembering that wrong, it's been a while...

Edited to remove Speaker reference as I just saw it in MrSinister's post..
