Nike MAG replicas (V2 and V3 only)

@cavx

Those should do great, Thank you.

I just keep talking about it forever to the guys at HC. This last time I was talking to them about the jacket and mentioned it and said I'd try to send pics of a V2. I got them, BTW. The jacket. I'll have that info posted in my jacket topic.

I hope you get more than I did on the last email from them which basically stated - thanks for the feedback, but due to our licencing agreement, we can't change the design".

I am consistent about talking to everyone there about it. Maybe they'll all tell the production team to do it, just to get me to stop asking for it.....:lol

Hey, I know it's a bit off topic. But I did in fact get the jackets, the shell is PVC. I am wondering about methods to attach the drawer liner. Others did stuff like glue it, but I don't know how glue would react to it, I'm wondering if I'll have to stitch. And in that case wonder what kind of thread would work well for the job.

I'm kind of desperate for an answer since I have to get the jacket, shoes (had an emergency after I got my branding kit), and a bunch of stuff on a Star-Lord done in time for Worldcon. It's basically gonna probably be the biggest con I can ever attend. So I'm in a desperate time crunch and trying to get answer sooner than later.

I'm basically begging everyone for advice.

For the jacket - some used hot glue to attach the draw mat, but you can also use caulking silicone as that is a flexible adhesive and sticks to EVERYTHING! I used clear caulking silicone to join the parts on my silicone jacket because it is one of the only things that sticks to silicone to silicone. Nothing else would work.

I'll just try and find that then. I was worried because everyone else was attaching the liner to cloth. I'll be attaching it to vinyl.

Is there any specific thing I should look for, or just any caulking silicone?

Clear bathroom silicon is all I have ever used. Starts at about $4 per tube but look for paint-able (usually twice the price) in case you need to touch up. Acetone can be used for clean up whilst it is wet.

I have not tested it yet, but the white adhesive silicone might even be good for gluing my soles to the mid-soles.

Okay, I did buy some caulking silicone. I'll have to double-check if it can be painted.

I also got drawer-liner, the corrugated black tubing for the cuffs/waist, and I got a Nintendo DS game case to put my sound module into. Got some black cloth to sew a pocket inside to hide the module and maybe act as a pocket for a Sports Almanac. Trying to think of anything else I need to get it done. I think I need to find some black plastic for some of the miscellaneous greebles on the jacket.

More on-topic, I should have the decals applied to the smooth-side shoes this weekend.

I probably won't be able to get the straps done in time. I'll have to think about maybe just gluing a NIKE logo to the HC strap or something or making a sleeve.

Do a sleeve. That way you can remove it if you need to. I did one a few years back with reflective tape (I called it "faking the EL) and it looked really good when photographed with the flash on. I also faked the sole lights with the same stuff in my V1s.

The sleeve was done after I tore these up to attempt a scratch build.

Sleeve sounds like a plan, I'll try and whip that up tomorrow.

I was just gonna paint the back of the logo or something. Now I'll try and find some reflective material instead.

I went to a sign place and got yellow letters cut for my Tube Bag, some white SWOOSH's made up bought a strip of "Electric Blue" for the shoes (the letters and 6x SWOOSH cost heaps, but the strip was only about $5). They could have made cutout logos, but I figured it was easier to lay a black on clear printed logo over a strip than try and peel off the pre-cut sticker and keep it straight. The original decals that came with the MP MAGs had this pre-cut thing, and it wasn't the easiest thing to apply.

I wonder if it's the same as his decal kit now. It's fairly thick rubbery sheet with the logos cookie-cuttered into it and an adhesive back.

The original decal kit was like foam cut letters on the heel and a sticker on the strap. Here is mine (sold them in 2013) when I stuck the sticker on some reflective material. Notice how long the tongue is on these.

The MP MAGs were pretty cool, and should they have been up for some revisions, they could have been awesome. The main down fall with them was they only came in one size. MP said it was US9, but I think it was closer to US8.5 based on my V2 US8s actually being US8.5 on the chart I posted a while ago.

They were taller than the V2 in the same size and because they were slightly stretchy, more sock like than either the V2 or the HC.

The only things I can really fault about the upper is that the seam on the inner side was too far forward (being between lace 1 and 2 like the V2s) and the laces had small sewn holes where the elastic came through the fabric.

The main back seam went all the way to the cuff and the inner seam that holds the cuff in was not visible from the outside of the shoe.

The V1 was a copy based on this, but they severely stuffed that up and the V2 is a better version, but still have the same mistakes made with the V1.

Yes I found I couldn't wear the MPs as they are too small for me though they were cool and about the only replica around when he originally made them - so mine have been in a storage box for years now. Pity the V2s didn't have such a tall tongue, or a spongy midsole material like the MPs or V1's. I liked that the MPs were a cloth upper, if the V1s had done something similar instead of the vinyl they would have been a lot better.

The current kit is just the swooshes, and the NIKE MAG letters. But it's all cut from this really thick rubber sheet, not foam.

I wish it had sticker, I'd just put that on my HC strap and go.

I could squeeze my feet into them but had to taken them off soon after. I sold my pair to guy in Melbourne. Be almost funny if it was you.

For my strap sleeve, I figured it out.

White reflective tape, blue ink-pad marker.

When the logo is photographed it lights up almost the same color as a blue EL sheet. Thanks for the reflectivity idea, cavx.

It's too bad the glow-paint I have simply does not perform in bright areas or I would have just used that and a flashlight.

Lol yep it would but I bought mine directly from Mark Poon and never put any colour to the midsole like yours. Thinking about it, i could say i have a complete collection of MAGs (minus the RDs and HC's) ... at least i could afford to do something about adding the HCs. I'd be game to do the cut and glue toe slim for my first try on them, hmmm....

And you still have V1s? Need a MAG group photo all lined up :)
