New Luke ROTJ hero lightsaber model-Check out pics

Fair enough ;)

Roy has my new 3d model and will be doing some comparisons for me again soon. Then I plan to start a new design thread to get the most accurate hero model to date, as we did with the v2

Oh this is going to be epic!!

Any chance you consider making real copper neck or you will strictly replicate the aluminum neck ?

I think there have been PLENTY of copper-necked versions made over the years, I'm fairly certain the plan is to go with original materials.

Good zero problem..if accuracy is a goal, then you have to do mom box as well since we don’t know how the smooth box looks like on the other side, since cave build was assembled after the isyhcanl scene, its control box couldn’t have the arrow led, or the plate itself, the box was modified to get open and put electronic inside, who knows if the arrows was only in the cave build version or even in isyhcal... so pls no idealized version, only facts

To be clear i’m in even if you do a lightsaber made out of marshmallows, I was just voting
Solid
MoM
:)

I believe the isyhcanl has the black button on it

I always wondered, if it did have arrows I would think as a film maker I would want that side shown? And why they didn’t choose that side for the scene

Same assumption would be for the black buttons (which yes they are present, they are visible in hd frames).. why wouldn’t show the side with buttons since “the side with buttons is still more interesting than the side without it” ... that doesn’t mean the arrows could not be there

I've been wondering this too. The man in the suit is labeled by name in the ROTJ making of book, I think he was a set assistant or something

The only answer I can come up with is that they didn't care or were hard on time. Hold the saber, with the blade (yes it had a blade), roll it around, cut!

Gasp

Halliwax! You made a cup adapter for the yuma we both have. What if it's the same setup... an outer colllar, inner collar that goes down in the nipple and a long skinny rod that goes deeper. Let me draw something

I’ve also come up with a v3 nipple design. Which I think is how they originally made them.

I just need to finish other projects before I can finish the machining on the v3 nipple

Now, there is no other set screw in the neck or body. I wonder if the nipple one was enough to keep the longer rod in there

The one in the Yuma?

I think they got Away with the 1 in the Yuma because there was no “blade to blade contact” they new they needed the Yuma saber for just the Yuma scene, and that’s light tapping of the actors

I’ve bent the copper poles I made for us by whacking them up against my door way. My nipple stayed in and the pole bent

Whooops!! Lol

oh no!

That being said, I think I found a couple bent poles in the ESB shots and graphite doesn't bend.

I wouldn't put it past them to order exactly this OD aluminum for the Yuma scenes, copper can be heavy.

Yeah I only used copper because it was a easy grab at Lowe’s and I was painting it black anyway

I can’t see them swinging copper.. though they wouldn’t have to go to the gym that night! Lol

Sorry to jump on to another thread. I'm a fan of the ISYHCANL look too and I'm pretty sure it didn't have the LEDs at that point. I believe (and it's a bit of an assumption) that the LEDs were added to look cool in the dark cave scene. And to show that things were happening with the saber as Luke calibrated it. So... the dilemma is, if making an ISUHCANL, hilt, do you stay true to the prop and leave them off? Or keep them, knowing that they *should* be there? I honestly believe the additional tracks were a compromise, and would have been left off if possible (to match the earlier shoot).

Problem is that the ISYHCANL close up shot was just a pick up shot, so I think trying to get into the why it was done that way might be lost in the sands of time, beyond the fact they mocked it up quickly just for the shot.

Then when they had more time to figure it out for the cave scene, they could make the box more detailed for the inner workings to be shown.
