MR Fullsize Stormtrooper Helmet starting to ship ?

I dont think its that people are fearful of CG - far from it.

However I (and a lot of other people) think that the asymmetrical OT helmets are far more aesthetically pleasing than the PT's.

For example, imo this......

dumps on this........

However its all about personal preferences.

I too like the ANH helmet the best. Vader to me, like Yoda in the PT was a botched job. As said in my previous post. They didn't include the damn widow peak in helmet. They should have tweaked the ROTS one more. It has that funny mirror symmetry look that I was talking about. You can't just mirror something and expect it too look great. You have to work it over real good to make it work.

The idiosyncrasies you guys speak of are nonsense, and were created on accident. They should not be replicated. The average person can't tell the difference between Vader from Star Wars through ROTS.

The main things that makes those pictures look different is the lighting and the finish of the object.

Of course, just my opinion.

I hate the PT vader helmet sooo much. Either the dome is waay to big or the mask is too narrow, it just looks wrong. Did Vader's melon shrink in the intervening years or something? ;)

I couldn't disagree with you more. To me, the idiosyncrasies of the film used props are their heart and soul. It gives them character as well as a visual credibility vs. what would look like a fake toy.
And I'm convinced that the only way to make a prop look just as it did in the films is to not take ANY artistic liberties in its replication.

If the symmetrical versions were what was first presented in the films, that would have been the image in our mind's eye all these years. However they weren't so now when we see a symmetrical version, they conflict with what we are used to causing them to look 'wrong'.

I think MR deserves kudos for going the route of asymmetrical on their trooper helmet.

I agree...the MR helmet is much better than I had expected, it TRUMPS the DP fiber glass helmet released in the 90's. I tip my hat to MR :) Sure, you can spend hundreds of dollars to get a spot on accurate helmet...but for the money...I am very pleased with my MR helmet. Its too bad that they dropped out of the SW gig, I would have loved to see them tackle one of the Vader helmets... preferably ANH. Oh well:cry

Im in the middle on this one. The prob with the Vader helmet to me is not the symetrical face but the God awful dome...looks more like Dark Helmet then Darth Vader. If they had narrowed up the dome a bit and made it oook like it FIT the face I wouldnt have an issue. Part of the problem I think may be that since they opted NOT to do the two tone paint sceme that the face gets lost in the depth of the helmet making the face appear disproportionately small. My Hypothesis is that over the years the Dark Side of the force subtley warped the helmet :)

ANH Vader is beautiful, but if you went to the hospital and got hooked up to an iron lung, would you want it to be all scraped up and bent at weird angles? Or a wheelchair that has one wheel about 1/2" lower than the other wheel :)

so whats the deal with these?...only a few were made?

i just dont get it...the only thing i can think of is that whoever is taking over the Star Wars license doesnt want many of these out there so they can produce a new one?

is it worth it to pay up for one of the MR helmets on ebay?...going for around $600...??

i've wanted a "mostly" accurate Stormy helmet forever...i've tried a couple fan made helmets and i always feel the level of craftmanship just isnt there

what are my options?

Shepperton Studios?

thanks

I have the MR and I used to have the SDS helmet...so if I had a choice I would go with the MR. IMO, its more accurate and its fiberglass as well...just feels like you are getting more helmet for your money :lol Don't get me wrong, SDS has produce some wonderful helmets but I just prefer the MR.:)
