movies you like that everyone else hates

I remember doing a face palm, as soon as the disco-walking down the street started, was so embarassed to even be in the theater watching that nonsense . All it would have taken, was some jazz hands, and I would have walked out of the theater.

No no, that wasn't even the worst part.... remember the jazz club scene?
But, it did have some cool costumes, Sandman was cool, and not to mention, the scene where the symbiote attaches itself to Peter was WAY cool!

Yeah, it pretty much boils down to "instead of becoming dark and moody with a quick temper, the symbiote turned Peter Parker into a pale reject from Jersey Shore."

Polar Express? I haven't heard of people hating Polar Express. :confused
Mostly the animation... It's like it's supposed to look real, but it just came out ugly and creepy... and not to mention, the kids in that movie annoy the heck out of me...

Oh yeah! The wife hates it!
And this is why I can't add much to this thread. My wife hates just about anything other than:
  • Anything that is aired in Hallmark channel
  • Light comedies
  • Anything with Amy Adams in it (which isn't quite so bad most of the time as I think she's quite fetching...)
If it doesn't meet one of the above concepts, she probably won't like it. We have almost nothing in common when watching TV, either (I still can't get over she likes, "Big Bang Theory"). So I live my life knowing that anything I like, my wife will probably hate.

Return Of The Jedi
Wait, does'nt everyone love Return of the Jedi? I thought it was the newer Star Wars movies that people don't like! (really, i like every single one of the Star Wars movies, but Hayden Christensen makes me want to vomit :sick)

Yeah, the animation entered the uncanny valley for me.

Indiana Jones 4
Transformers 2
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Star Wars episode 3
Sasquatch Mountain
Chupacabra Terror
The Legend of Bigfoot
Hancock

I have a tendency to love any comic-book movies simply because they're bringing the material to life on the big screen, even if they're not doing it all that well, so my list includes
- League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
- Daredevil
- The Ed Norton Hulk (and less so, but still, the Eric Bana one)

And for similar reasons, even the Transformers movies. Tomb Raider, too - in the first one the nods to the game were really nice.

My kids love Polar Express. The things that bug me about this film are:
- Aerosmith Elves
- Scrooge Puppet
- Eddie Deezen's voice work

I love the book by the way.

Terminator#3
- not worthy of #1-2 but had good points.

Transformers#2
- okay, I didn't really like it. but I don't understand why people liked the first one and not the 2nd.

Pirates#4
- how was this worse than #2 and #3? seemed okay to me.

Indy#4
- hitchhiking on a submarine, falling from a plane, invisible bridges . . . why is the nuked fridge so different?

Gone in 60 Seconds (remake)
- lacks the purity of the original but it's a guilty pleasure.

Dukes of Hazzard (movie)
- comedic failure but has great stunt footage. another guilty pleasure.

Waterworld
- the media decided it sucked before the crew started shooting. Cheese, but fun cheese.

Pirates#4
- how was this worse than #2 and #3? seemed okay to me.

I think the one thing missing was that Jack Sparrow, or really any of the other characters had no need to live forever, if I remember? They all just wanted to. It was missing that drive / intensity of whats stake if they don't get to the fountain of youth. Also a step down on the epic story from Pirates three. I enjoyed it like you though.

Indy#4
- hitchhiking on a submarine, falling from a plane, invisible bridges . . . why is the nuked fridge so different?

I haven't thought this one at as much as the others, but Temple of Doom may have iconic scenes, but at least in Indy 4, Shia isn't screaming in Indy's ear every five seconds. They were all campy films, and I think this was the first time a majority of people had seen Indiana Jones since kids. Everybody knows the character, but how many films have they seen? Do they even like silly adventure movies with action and humor?

Personally, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade may be better movies, but they have a ton of more slow moments where as Indy 4's pacing is tight for re-watchibility. By the way, that nuke fridge scene with the empty town is so twilight zone and creepily awesome.

Get ready for Indiana Jones five hate.

Transformers#2
- okay, I didn't really like it. but I don't understand why people liked the first one and not the 2nd.

In the first movie you cared for Sam because he was kind of a dork and a loser in the school scene. Everybody likes a story of the outcast getting the hot popular babe at the end. He does kind of be a dick to his only friend, but in Sam's defense, his friend was climbing trees.

Not only does Sam have to deal with his social life but it becomes a fish out of water movie when he has to deal with robots. You feel as an audience member that the world is at risk. You relate to the solders at war, or Sam who are just as freaked out about these aliens just popping up out of no where.

Also its just edited so well on the pacing, humor and action. Dialogue and characters are another thing though :lol

Now with the 2nd movie, having all these Robots around its not as special. The world knows. If Sam flunks out of college he can still do something with his car. Sell it? Rob banks? Show it off at shows, if it doesn't mind.

The fun part of the movie is seeing him in college trying to fit in, as he may have helped save the world before but he's just another guy trying to rise in popularity or with the babes. But you didn't come to see Sam in a college school movie, you came to see him help some how save the world from not getting destroyed again. This time its just boring because you don't care whats going on as much, you know Sam is going to win in the end. You lose the humor half way through and it becomes serious business. And serious isn't as fun to watch unless that's what it was meant to be a thriller / horror.

I feel exactly the same way. :thumbsup

Pirates#4

Agree! The only great Pirates movie was the first. At least 4 left a lot of the "baggage" of the trilogy behind and tried to give us a fresh story. I enjoyed it enough.

Unlike many I don't have a problem with the fridge per-se. I have much bigger issues with Indy having a kid, Indy getting married, and most of all aliens. That said, I put it on the same level as TOD. Put a bullet in Willie and TOD becomes MUCH more bearable!
