movies you like that everyone else hates

Love:

Reign of Fire
The Andromeda Strain (1971)
Star Trek (2009)
From Dusk 'Till Dawn
Live Free Or Die Hard
AVP
Mimic
The Haunting (1963)

Really Star Trek? I loved that movie, and so did the critics and lots of other people...Die hard Trekkies either love it or hate it, so I guess that's why it is on this list

What's the old joke about people either loving or hating opera? Star Trek is supposed to be something of a Space Opera...or was that 2001?

I actually like ALL the animated Lord of the Rings and Hobbit stuff. I'm sure I'm biased simply because they were my first introduction to Tolkein. I saw the Bakshi version in the theater when it first came out. I had never even heard of Tolkein before that. I loved the surreal psychodelic feel of it. Of course I couldn't really understand much of what was going on, but all the THC in our bodies at that time made it a real trippy event.

Then later I saw the Rankin and Bass versions of The Hobbit and The Return of the King on TV. It was only then that I read the books. Despise the animated versions all you want but I like 'em and watch them frequently.

I loved that choppy sort of animation as well. Probably because my parents had given me WAAAYY too much cough syrup :confused

I liked "Sucker Punch". I know a lot of people dismiss it as just eye-candy girls with swords, but there really are a lot of layers to that movie. Every time I watch it I notice something deeper about it.

Save your breath, my friend... SuckerPunch is one of those movies that people will either love or hate. There is no middle ground, and most often, there is no convincing the person to change their thoughts on it.

I forgot to add:

Boondock Saints II (could have cut out the last half an hour and made Julie a normal detective. *Shutters at cowgirl dancing.)

EXistenZ (contians unintentional hilarious bad dialogue )

Manhunter, William Petersen was great as the FBI agent on the case. I loved Brian Cox take on Dr. Hannibal Lecktor, and Tom Noonan plays yet another awesome villian.

Thats one of those movies I don't love or hate, but almost feel both ways about it! :wacko. I love the costumes, the over the top action and the soundtrack, pretty much hate the rest of it :lol

Okay, so this is a hard one to admit, but Spider Man 3 had so many cool scenes!!! until it came to Venom... I just try to tell myself that's not Venom, he's too scrawny...

I remember doing a face palm, as soon as the disco-walking down the street started, was so embarassed to even be in the theater watching that nonsense . All it would have taken, was some jazz hands, and I would have walked out of the theater.

Polar Express? I haven't heard of people hating Polar Express. :confused

My wife does and I kinda do. The fugly elves creep us both out and Tom Hanks playing every character he can and then some got old after the third time through. That and kids have a tendency to watch movies over and over and over back to back. I don't think I've played the same Zep or ELO album back to back as many times as my kid has watched some movies back to back. Rio is currently his favorite. I can't get the damned theme song out of my head.

I've always loved Coming to America even though it didn't do too well in theaters and is not regarded as one of Eddie Murphy's best from the time but I've always liked even though Eddie Murphy wasn't playing his typical role which is exactly why I liked the movie. I'm one of those kind of people who love seeing well known actors playing against type, it really shows their acting chops when they do it well. My dream movie if I were ever to become a filmmaker would be one where I'd do the usual casting of some popular actor known for his roles as the good guy and cast him seemingly as the good guy and someone very well known for playing the heavy/villain as the seeming villain of the movie but in reality the good is really the bad guy and the bad guy is really the good guy.
