movies you like that everyone else hates

Apparently, none of my friends like the Lord of the Rings movies, so I haven't been able to find anyone to go see The Hobbit with...

Time for new friends? :facepalm

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
The Pagemaster (come on, Christopher Lloyd is a wacky Librarian)
Indy 4
National Treasure 1 & 2
Broken Lizards Club Dredd
Cop Out
The Pick of Destiny
Insomnia
17 Again
Die Hard 4
Cube 2
Saw 3 (I liked the story line of the cop who couldn't save everyone)
Tower Heist
From Dusk Till Dawn (the whole movie)
My Life in Ruins (some cringe poop jokes)
Sahara / Fools Gold (like to think that they're in the same movie universe, + Sahara has Rain Wilson (the office) as the villian.

The original Andromeda Strain. It does have a few plot holes, and plods along, but I love the design and production style. People dislike it, but it is one of my guilty pleasures.

From some of the discussions here on the RPF I'd have to say all the Star Trek Movies (pre and post JJ Abrams and his crew) and the Star Wars films too. ;) There are some seriously brutal threads here about them. :lol

I can never forgive Hollywood for taking some of my favorite literary characters (Seriously, I've read all the Dirk Pitt novel) and turning them into caricatures of themselves.

Dirk Pitt is supposed to be this awesome Indiana Jones-of-the-sea guy, and instead, we get what the movie showed us.

The adaptation was so bad that Clive Cussler (the man who wrote the novel) sued the filmmakers.

They cut out key points of the story about the Civil War ship found in the desert, specifically the significance. That, to me, was a serious WTF moment of the story that hooked me on the novels.

Wow, I had no idea it was a book adaption. I just thought it was made to launch Matthew Mcconaughey's 'action' career. I love my leads strong with a presence, being funny/charming, and scarcastic. I thought he did that, but I guess if I read the novels and he was a miscast, that's bummer.

As a stand alone movie, forgetting the book, you still got P Cruz, Steve Zahn, Rain Wilson, and William Macy in a big budget adventure film. Though slow, and no iconic moments, its still Mcconaughey looking for some lost treasure, which is fun to watch. :popcorn

Oh yeah. Clive Cussler is a prolific writer, and his Dirk Pitt novels (more than twenty so far) are all top notch.

They're not as good as Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series (another sore point: the movie adaptations (The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears) were much better than the Sahara adaptation, but they were still mediocre compared to the books, despite Harrison Ford being cast in two of them), but they're still quite good.

I like to use the comparison that Clive Cussler is the Dean Koontz to Tom Clancy's Stephen King.

And yes, McConaughey was woefully miscast, as was Zahn. Rainn Wilson was cast because of his physical resemblance to Rudi Gunn, but no amount of acting can make Rainn Wilson convincingly portray a former Navy Commander who graduated from Annapolis at the top of his class. Penelope Cruz was a take it or leave it casting, while William H. Macy was well cast in the role.

I hear bad reviews and what a stinker it is all the time but I really enjoy it.

Hudson Hawk

It's corny and cheesy yeah but it's a fun movie. Ever since that movie I have wanted a brass Espresso machine like that to make my Cappucinos.
