Borg headpiece laser light

Good evening everyone,
I'm beginning my build of my Borg headpiece, and was wondering if anyone else has built one? My question for everyone or anyone is, how do you modify the laser pointer so you can use an external switch with batteries? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I've gone through a few of the laser pens that people use to play with their cats. Thank you.

It was for a different project, but I just purchased a laser diode with leads rather than modify a laser pointer.

This is close to what I used, but mine came from Radio Shack many years ago.

Depends on the model of the laser pointer.
And how many batteries are used to power it.

But as a rule, cheap laser pointers can be easily modified to suit your task.
