MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

This is very exciting.

Razorsharp... your board looks 10 times better already!

I wanted to see the variations between top and bottom yellow stripes on the original stunt Hoverboard's, so I made this image. Perhaps it will help.

There's no variation in the design, since the stunt boards use all the same photo. Some bottoms (and tops!) of the decals are just cut shorter.

... And for some reason, I'm feeling much more trust with you, instead Mattel's team...

I hope I will meet your expectations. It's very difficult, since they really botched it with the footpad position. But I will do my best. :confused

Yep, that's what I meant. Variation in length and width of the decks mean they cut the decals shorter on some.

You seemed to have based your decals off of the Profile's board that was sold for 55k which has the short top stripe.

Has anyone's been sitting in Atlanta since 12/10 and hasn't shown any movement yet??

It seems that some boards stall for a while in whatever city Cornerstone Logistics transfers the package to the US Postal Service in. Mine stalled for 3 days after this transfer, then started moving again.

An 8-day delay seems excessive, though...

We all had poor delivery on the ghost trap last year, unless one pays the extra "ups" the standard delivery is simply shocking IMO..... I've never hear such slowness for you USA guys. Uk standard is usually 10 working days which I will be on tomorrow (Wednesday).

I also find it poor on the matty forum the amount of unanswered posts as if matty can't even be bothered to address the questions. I'm aware we all know by now they couldn't do certain things but they should be more professional in there handling rather than jump out with if you don't want it then return for a refund attitude.

Epic fail tho, we all pre ordered 9 months ago and look on there site....... The additional run of boards still available and no evidence of it being a sell out 2 weeks from its release like the ghost trap was

Note that the GB trap did not get nearly as much public advertising and stories out to the public as the Hoverboard project has. Also note that this is released close to the holidays when sales and demands are high. Finally, note Matty took pre-orders to refine the numbers on production so that it would be a 'safe' sell out.

Matty has to be honest with itself in order to address the post without coming across worse. Given they can't get past that first step, they cannot effectively act further.

Digital Rivers online sales and shipping is it's own separate topic of incompetent distribution and management chosen by Matty.

I have to wonder as well about the nightmare of cancellations and returns and how that impacts the bottom line on the project. The faulty design of the glued box really would screw up open returns/resale.

I just posted this on the Matty forums, but figured I'd post it here as well to see what you guys thought.

What if Matty were to release -- for free -- it's original digital files it used to create the stickers?

It would allow people here, like Roland, to have a 100% accurate base on which to base new stickers, and if it was released with its layers still intact, then you could put lenticular on your board and print only the layers you need to go over top.

It won't make this nightmare go away for them, but it would go a long way towards regaining some good will.

I also posted that they should release their reference photos and measurements collected from Bob Gale's boards during his visits.

Again, it doesn't forgive the screw ups, but it would show that they care about having happy (or at least content) customers.

Thoughts?

I don't see either of those happening, unfortunately. They certainly won't release the decal templates, because of knock-offs and counterfeits. "Protecting assets" and all that. I thought once about someone asking Matty to send out a stickersheet because of poor applications.

Another company did that, granted it was a mass market toy, instead of an "Adult Collectors" toy. The company sent them a duplicate set straight away, no hassles. But short of someone at Mattel leaking the files to the internet, I don't see it happening.

As for the notes and reference of Bob's Boards - I don't think there's a chance either. Plus, It's probably just basic stuff like "Pink", "Green", "Purple", "Bubbly pattern", and a few doodles of cats.

And Scott now says there are "No plans for a phase 2", when at SDCC, Toy Fair and NYCC he suggsted that they'd re-release them down the line, and that the Handlebars may be made if they saw money in it. So I don't think sales are as high as they thought, and the cancellations certainly aren't helping.

Something tells me Matty would not consider replacing the stickers as it would be admitting to a mistake Scott noted does not exist. Does not fit with the current attitude they have shown.

As for releasing the board information, I would hazard to guess the contract alone with the studio would not allow for such. Beyond the good point Vinz noted, I again think that this would be tantamount to Matty admitting they screwed up and then showing exactly how they did so, which would not help their position.

Right, BUT often times the best way to manage bungled PR situations is to agree that they fell short.

...Then again, that's only when it comes to companies that actually CARE about what they put out. So I'm probably just dreaming.

I'm not asking whether people THINK Matty will actually do this. (They most likely won't) I'm asking whether or not it would engender a bit more affection towards Matty if they were to do something like that.

They already released many of the photos on their facebook page. I have downloaded every one of them. The links are halfway down this page—the "Bob Gale at Mattel" post:

Matty | News

Yeah, I grabbed and filed those away in the appropriate Hoverboard folders on my computer.

...is it bad that I have NUMEROUS Hoverboard folders? :lol

I would just think that somewhere, they have a few annotated images with exacting dimensions, or at least a handwritten ledger and perhaps some very specific detail shots rather than "press photos" which is basically what they posted.

Nope. I would just tell you to join the club!:cool I have one for the handlebars, the photo boards, and the lenticular boards. Gotta stay organized. :thumbsup

Yep, I've got the same thing. I may be adding more soon. So far I have Handlebars, Hero, Orange, Others, Pitbull, Replica, and Stunt...with some sub folders in some of those. (notably "Others" has sub folders for each of Griff's gang's boards)

So when do I get my membership card to this club? :love

I don't think we need any help from Mattel to fix this board up. Hey, this is the RPF - we can work miracles. :D

If a lot of different Hoverboard folders on a harddisc leads to a membership in a special club, then I'm your club president. :lol

I don't think anyone would object to that.

How does "Supreme Hoverboard Overlord Roland" sound to you? :lol

Hi.
Does anybody here where can I get the green and pink hook and loop for customizing the board?
I bought some from ebay, but none of them were the right colour (bright pink was pale pink, light green was kind of a yellow...)
If anyone knows where can I get the exact colour (or a very close one to the screenused boards), please let me know.
Thanks!
