MattyCollector "Mattel Hoverboard" discussion

Today I've tried to rework my stunt board graphics. Unfortunatel *the dimensions on your image don't work very well with your large images of the board. Maybe there's still too much distortion.

Are you or anyone else willing to help me out with good scans (600 dpi or better) - no photos - of the original decals of Mattel's Hoverboard (should be eight different all together)? But you would have to remove them from the board for scanning. The first one that wants to help me, would get my replacement decals for free when they're finished.

Hey Rolland, I don't have my board yet, hopefully soon.
When I get it I can take some shots with my dslr and studio flashes. The res would be 4256 x 2832. I would then run the image through lightroom to apply a lens profile that would correct and distortion there may be.
Let me know if that sounds like a workable solution?

Not more than $30 shipped. I would offer my decals in the same eight parts as the original decals. But first I have to make the graphics and need help with some scans. Do you want to help me and get the decals for free? :)

1, that's awesome. Looking at getting decals printed, and that's about how much it'd cost anyway. I've no qualms with taking the decals off, and I DO have access to a scanner.

The catch is that I won't have access to the board until Christmas, unless I can pull some strings. But I may just have to. It's a standard HP Officejet scanner, if you think that'll give you the quality you need, i'm in.

got my hoverboards, only opened one of them, and got to work..... graphics removed, black hole painted and footpad upgraded...

I suppose you did not choose UPS but "regular" USPS shipping from Mattel? If yes, there`s hope that I`ll receive mine before Christmas as well :thumbsup

Roland, I've got my Matty board and my DSLR here. I've taken a few shots already, but if you let me know specifics of what you'd like shots of I should be able to at least get you started.

I would also be interested. I wish I could help, but I don't have access to any sort of means to produce a quality scan.

Thank you, guys, that you want to help. I really appreciate that. But I don't think that a photograph could ever be as exact as a scan, even if it's the best studio quality.

That sounds great. I can wait until Christmas, no problem. The quality of the scans (colors, contrast etc.) is not so important. Important is only the resolution and it has to be totally free from distortion. This, of course, is only possible, if you remove the decals from the board and lay them flat on the scanner glass.

I can certainly oblige. The pieces should be small enough to fit on the glass, and I was planning to remove/replace them anyway - so not a problem at all. The scanner's good enough, scans should be clean and clear.

I appreciate the patience, but i'll see if I can get the scans to you sooner if you'd like (I'm sure everyone here won't mind :lol) . Just let me know the formatting for the scans, and I'll get to it.

I figured out why the foot strap is so long on the hoverboard. When removed from the pad, you can see that it's the matching length of the board's velcro hooks, when their length is combined.

Hey, Roland. There are actually more than 8 stickers. There are 4 on the top, 3 on the bottom, and 6 around the edge, but those are just multiple prints of ONE sticker, they're not cut any different just at different lengths.

I "lucked" out, and mine has several places where the stickers are peeled up and there's a big bubble in the middle. So it'll be a snap to get everything up. The reason the stickers don't stick too well is the rough texture they gave the board. But I did miss out on the exclusive Scotch Tape bonus. :(

Bttf123 lmk if/when you plan on putting together an upgrade package for our matty boards. Also, is there any chance at a lenticular upgrade offer?

Does anyone else's board bulge upwards just under the center of the kicktail surface here?

I think this is where the horrendous sound is coming from. Maybe it's where the speaker is jammed into...?

Yes. That's where the speaker is. The surface of the board is... "embossed"? If that's the right word? Under the sticker, the plastic looks almost like a painted pink/pink "bullseye" symbol from the mold.

There's probably cast rings on the inside to hold the speaker in place.

Yes, they are all like this. I ordered 2 boards and they both had the exact same bulge.

Thanks very much for confirming that. I didn't know if the speaker had been shoved too far up into the kicktail and if I needed to return the board.

So now I'm wondering if this bulge goes away once the speaker is removed?

Btw, the sound on mine is so bad, especially the idle, that I removed the batteries after only a few minutes. The idle sound was TERRIBLE, like several others have mentioned. It's like the speaker is pressed too close to the surface of the board and causes a high-pitched vibration/whine.

There are 4 stickers on the bottom, too. The middle part is split in two parts, but you can only see this, if you remove everything from the bottom (magnets, magnet holders, battery).

The strip that goes around the board is not important. You don't need to scan it, because it's not part of my replacement decals. When I said "8 parts", I didn't count that strip. My decals are stunt board replicas and the stunt boards just have a gray painted stripe around the board.

Roland, you're almost going to have to have a board in hand. The sticker surface of the board is actually VERY slightly recessed into the top surface of the board, like maybe 1/2 mm. This causes a faint line around the perimeter of the board that defines the correct sticker area.

BUT, on my board, the sticker does NOT stay completely within these borders, drifting a bit to one side or the other, and riding up a bit onto the raised boarder area by about 1mm in places. So the middle sticker on top is like a very slightly curved rectangle because of this distortion.

I would imagine that since these board's graphics were applied by hand, no one's graphics will have been applied perfectly straight. So it may be better to actually look at the sticker areas defined on the board itself.

I'm in agreeance with most Mattel dropped the ball and i feel bad for Bob Gale because i think his expectations were as high if not higher than ours.. i mean hes was standing there with these higher ups pointing out details and other things from the movies.. and they still just apparently didn't care:angry.. i mean the foot pad is the perfect example, you are looking at the real board holding in your hand and see the foot strap, now look at our finished product we were delivered...its in your ******** hand, HOW DO YOU **** THAT UP!!!!!!??????but being a bttf fan since i was i kid, its a hoverboard and it has the Mattel logo... I'm happy as a pig in **** (when it arrives):cool.. now Ive only seen pictures and videos but yea theres work to be done.. handle bar hole painted, new foot pad.. and maybe somehow a new soundboard.. etc.. thats my biggest complaint thats all i really wanted was to hear that sweet sweet hum of the magnets while i was sitting in my favorite chair w/ my feet propped up.. what the hell is that sound even of: oh well??????? not the hoverboard sound i grew up with... thats for damn sure! but in the end we all see the board differently.. but i preorderd this day one last year when the pre orders dropped. and starting three weeks ago it was nothing but phone and email arguments with Matty toys.. after this i refuse to buy anything from them ever again.. horrible customer service:angry.. in the end like i said I'm gonna be happy either way.. but i can't wait to see everything that WE the fans and propers do to fix our boards and make them better for ourselves and everyone else..

LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!!!

Would be a great idea if I really had one of the boards at home. But I didn't buy it and so I'm reliant on good scans from people that bought the board. And I think it's easier to scan the stickers than the board. ;)
