Magic of Myth ( MoM ) Luke RotJ Hero ( cave build ) lightsaber research, images, reference, & collaborative model builder's discussion.

@BRRogers thinks it may have been powered externally. I will let him provide the rationale behind that. But he has seen something strange on the back side of the box that may have been a wire channel covered with aluminum tape if I recall.

Interesting . Thanks.

The LM3909 type circuit (link) would run on lower voltages as low as 1.5V and so only one or two batteries.

Also interesting. Also thanks. That flasher unit looks to give a better match in flash duration than the other method.

Related - I found a Viscount (Vickers viscount reading lamp, R2D2, etc same manufacturer?) Of that era and it has a brown board with the same type of set up of that time period.

One side of the board with goopy solder, printed leads, and wires that go through the board.

Most of the components are on the other side (pot, resistors, speaker, etc)

And of course holes where screws mounted it to the case

Seeing it made me think of this thread, thats all :D

I guess the question has already been asked.
Have you planed to reproduce 1:1 the saber meaning to replic the interior of the control box and including functional blinking LEDs?
Would be so cool ;-)
In any case fantastic work guys.

We are going to be doing a run of this yes. We definitely are looking to create an FX capable circuit board that can have the appearance of the original. There will be SOME differences from the original circuit board due to control box dimension constraints given strength but it will be awful close.

Yeah, I've been working slowly on the circuit for the control box, for my personal project, but I likely won't be making the decorative board totally accurate.

It's more complicated than a simple flasher circuit, but it should all fit into my box.

I'd really like to design a custom PCB for the circuit, along with the decor board, using easyEDA (I think that's what it's called). Hopefully I can get this done!

So glad to hear that you're working on this as well, Verity! If you'd like to collaborate, or wanna share ideas or anything, lemme know!

we are actually looking to have a custom PCB maker do it, but happy to chat about what we are thinking. Send me a PM and I'll read you in.

small update
Related to PCBs.
Besides enjoying thanksgiving and being busy at work... I’ve been in a deeeep dive into the world of pcb manufacturing.
I’m no pcb manufacturer but I am working on honing in a historically correct accurate and rare solution for both the clamp card and the reveal board. I’ve discovered and began ‘collection and inquiry’ on several items that I hope will add another layer of accuracy to this project.
Sorry I’m being vague! I guess I am operating a bit ‘close-to-the-chest’ right now but I promise I’ll share in full in the near future :)

*Edit*
Just to clarify again:
There will HAVE to be two versions of the *reveal* board to do this right.
For the FX saber interest:
designed to work as a functional & reveal board... trimmed and streamlined for FX use and durability for ‘combat’. Will be visually ‘very close’ in appearance on top, and will include a custom PCB setup underneath for FX saber function. This will be slimmer than....

The STATIC reveal board.
It is unavoidable, to have a “proper” and super accurate reveal the box interior dimensions can’t be compromised, thus allowing a full scale and un-trimmed reveal card.
I’m working on unraveling that now.

For this run’s clamp card, I’ve finally located a source for Blue PCB substrate that could be accurate. More info to come.

In addition, there are some key areas that Adam and I have been working on with new reference (I’ve been asked not to share) that will be incorporated into both the in-progress FX and future STATIC version of the prop.

Sorry again for being vague! We’re now close-to-the-chest while we’re working... hoping to surprise and delight in the near future!

Question for the incredible folks driving this effort. When the run is ready to happen, will be it announced and controlled through a different thread, since this seems more focused on research? For those of us who have been following, how do we stay informed? Thank you!!

correct. The specific run thread will be separate as this one is indeed focused on research and highlighting everyone's work in one place

we will post a notice here at least when that other thread gets opened
