Magic of Myth ( MoM ) Luke RotJ Hero ( cave build ) lightsaber research, images, reference, & collaborative model builder's discussion.

Incidentally, I was comparing my new 7C/PP hilt with the original Master Replicas version...which now looks SUPER inaccurate compared to when it was released in 2002! The diameter and overall proportions are very similar, but the MR is of course longer (but still shorter than both the MR and Anakin Starkiller V2 hilts), and most of that seems to be in the grenade section, because the other parts are pretty much proportionally identical. The MR also had idealized/consistent rings.

Just for funzies—

Russrep Obi-Wan, Anakin Starkiller V2, Master Replicas V2, Master Replicas hero, 7 Chambers/Phoenix Props hero.

New collated dimensions updated and added some more “lineage” dimension theory support.
Continuing to update and improve the model. The results seem to be speaking for themselves as everything comes into alignment

Oh wow, I hadn't realized just how small that PP hero is.

What's the OAL, if you don't mind my asking?

Here are some comparison recent overlays that Roy did of my Luke hero 3d model onto the new batch of references. I'm going to start a new design thread soon to make a couple tweaks. But, I'm pretty happy with the model, considering it drew it up in 2007, and I think it still holds up pretty darn well.

Nice Dan!
It feels like we’re really closing in on the fine tuning of this thing, although I’m curious at this point if you agree with the lineage theory that I’ve put forward. Between your access to the V3 dimensions some time ago and the recent V2 access along with your model I’m really hoping that the idea can be corroborated
Have you had a chance to check out our other stuff?

Just sent you back a message. Sorry I've been MIA lately

And yes. I think your sense of lineage is correct. I think they had resin castings of the v3 in California and ILM made the Yuma/Hero to match those.
In 2005 I brought a resin casting of the hero which was a little over 11" long with me to examine the aluminum hero saber when it was on display in the Bronx. I was struck then by how much larger the original was than my castings and consequently how much larger it was compared to the SD studios saber and MR saber which were based on a casting of a casting of a .... of the original and clocked in at 10.98" long. That's why I scaled my 2007 run sabers to match the original aluminum hero and why I have always maintained that any hero saber that is under 11" long is far too small.

Hey guys: some exciting news. I’m in talks with slothfurnace to produce a new run of accurate cards. Before I go making any absolute drawing commitments... shoot me a message if you have or have seen any card images that reveal as much or more than you can see here.

As per the currently developing model it will likely be 51mm X 18mm and include a blue solder mask over thePCB.
That’s about all I can share for now.

Just to make sure I’m not crazy: haha....

90s on the top edge, heavy inset 2-11 (of 12)
Scallops on bottom edge.
Light Inset 1-3 & 7-10 & 12
Medium inset 4-6
Heavy inset 11
And a slight cope on the solder mask for bottom of the first finger.
(y)

Did the dimensions come out to match? Might need to do a bit of scaling on the printer if the pommel to emitter didn’t hit 278. Fun to see though :)

Took me about 6 tries. I just kept measuring the top most flange on the emitter until it was 48mm.

Gee, I'm glad he listened to YOU, I approached him about doing this several months back, and he didn't seem all that interested.
