I'm definitely an IL-2* vet, almost from the beginning! Easily hundreds of hrs over the years! It opened my eyes to the eastern front, which never was covered as well in my schooling, at least back then. I think my love of SW co-mingled with my love of history (and WW2 history in particular). I almost view the OT as being WW2 in space in some ways. The Empire is basically space Nazis afterall. Lol!

*the sim, not the aircraft

I think the only time they've shown kill marks is on this X-Wing cover. I couldn't find a better picture unfortunately. I love these kill marks because it's got both Death Stars. Really Wedge should only have credit for the second unless, like his patches they refer to, it is for surviving both Death Star attacks.

Unfortunately for me IL-2 came along way later in life, and I haven't had the time to devote to it. But what I've played. It's an incredible sim. Plus the wealth of mods for it is incredible! I really love the detailed cockpits. I would watch Kermit Weeks on YouTube fly a particular model. Then be able to follow what he did in the game.

I always loved that cover! They can also be seen on Baron Fel's interceptor:

It really was a major part of my gaming life for sure and educational too! The newest iteration is amazing but unfortunately my poor jalopy of a PC can't do it justice! I was primarily a Ju-87 and 109 driver back in the day although I dabbled across the board over the years. In the original IL-2 they campaigns that covered the Finnish war and it was fascinating, with an eclectic variety of planes at their disposal. Brewster Buffalos, Gloster Gladiators, Morane Saulnier 406s, etc. etc.

Seems a bit low to me..... I mean playing as Wedge I'm pretty sure I blaster that many in only one mission of Rogue Squadron.

Quick anecdotal story from the Wife who is very unfamiliar with all things Star Wars
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've been together for over 10 years, and we get along great. Before we met, I don't think she knew anything about Star Wars aside that it's called Star Wars. Example: one evening years ago, for some reason I had C3PO on my laptop screen as she walked by. When she saw it she leaned down and asked "who's that golden robot?" I thought that was hilarious.

This morning I had another memorable one.
Today is March 4th. So this morning we woke up, and at some point she asks "Hey, isn't today March 4th is with us?" It took me a few seconds to connect the dots. Somehow she was thinking about May the 4th be with you. We both got a good laugh out of it.

Not sure exactly where she got that or why she thought about SW, but I thought it would be worth sharing. :)

Have a good weekend everyone!

Most likely, in Wedge's case, those fighter silhouettes probably represent 6 or more fighters a piece. Still I think you're right that that would probably be too low when you see TIEs pouring out of a ships and then them not having shields vs. a skilled Rebel pilot.

I guess Mark Hamill read your story.
