Seems odd that all those bounty hunters would be there if they were all working separately. Perhaps they were all part of an A-Team type squad of bounty hunters all working together.

OR were all these guys just part of Jabba's group? I guess Vader only would have to make one phone call to get them to do the job.

Well this would have been a year after TESB so I'm assuming Han would've been there for a while by the events of RoTJ. Of course, the reason behind the presence of these characters is left up to us to connect the dots but I don't think there's any sign of the remaining three hunters being there. I agree the Tauntaun head feels like an easter egg but I think the other hunters being there could've been interpreted as something more. I do agree dead characters need to stay dead or at least have a darn good explanation why they're actually not!

The Bespin junkroom is another interesting location. Besides the weird, whitewashed IG droid (even his gear too!), we also see a 4-LOM type droid head on a 2-1B medical droid body. Definitely "costume bashing" going on! There's also an interesting armor set that could be a fun unexplored Imperial type if a fan wanted to connect those dots! Lol! It appears to be stormtrooper armor with a TIE flight helmet with a red/brown stripe on the mohawk, except the helmet appears to have an open (or silver visored?) face.

I love that armor!

Pretty sure they are jabbas elites, though I can’t recall in new canon if anything like that has been mentioned

I know in shadows they were all trying to kill fett to get han and deliver it to jabba themselves.

That’s erased now, but I just recently learned fett and bossk had a fall out and fett left bossk for dead.. so I imagine there’s some tension in the palace during the time of rotj

Me too! It’s clearly something that was just cobbled together as set dressing but it looks neat. The helmet almost has a very slight Spartan or ODST vibe if you’re into Halo. If I were into cosplay, I’d def think about throwing something like that together.

Yeah, reading between the lines, one *could* infer that they were originally meant to be seen as “Jabba men”. The EU never really followed that line of thinking though, that I recall.

So here's a question for everyone. George was inspired WW2 films when it came to the starfighters and such. In WW2 it was common practice to pain tally marks or kill marks on one's aircraft.

So what I'm wondering. Did any of the OT ships have tally marks? I don't remember seeing anything. I know that in the comics and even the X-wings in The Mandalorian showcase tally marks. I find it strange that they didn't use them in the OT. Or am I forgetting?

That's a good question. Seems like I vaguely recall there being kill marks seen but I honestly don't recall where or when. Maybe I'm thinking of the chevron markings on the X-wing flight helmets? Wasn't it said they were kill markings of some sort?

That's Gabby Gabreski, by the way.
Not only was he was an ace in WWII, but he went on to become an ace AGAIN in Korea, flying F-86 Sabers.

Yep! We have a excellent documentary series called Hunters in the Sky, which had interviews with him! And I've got a die cast model of his F-86! An absolute legend!
Nice! I have that series on VHS tape, but haven't had a VCR for 20 years. I also lost one of the tapes. :/
One of my favorite things about that series, if I'm remembering correctly, was that they actually interviewed Adolf Galland. I wanted to dismiss him as a "bad guy", but couldn't. He wasn't really. He had the utmost respect for his rivals in the sky, and hated Nazis as much, if not more, than we did. I also have a copy of a book he wrote about the war, but it's very dry and I never finished reading it.

Sorry for the derail rant, guys. Lol.
I don't have any WWII nerds in my life to talk to anymore.

Yep, the tally marks were an EU invention, but one I like. That explanation for the markings on the flight helmets never sat with me, because 1) They never change, and 2) Luke gets them without anyone commenting before he's flown a single mission. Those, more than any of the other markings, I've held in abeyance for lack of clear interpretation.

As far as the whole bounty hunter thing... I have a personal notion that, as in the EU, Zuckuss and 4-LOM work together and responded to a Guild alert from the Empire, as did IG-88. Jabba would've seen the alert, too, and it would've been the first lead on Solo since Ord Mantell, so he sent Dengar and Bossk separately. Boba responded, too, but ROTJ Boba was still on Tatooine.

Yes, I'm still on that separate-people kick. Sorry. More than anything else, TBoBF reinforced for me that ROTJ Boba is an ageing clone trooper who thinks/wants to be Boba in the worst way, and -- after his falling out with real Boba -- Bossk was only too happy to set him up as a sham Boba and get him in as one of Jabba's enforcers.

As far a Luke’s helmet goes, I just assumed it was a spare helmet given to him that clearly belongs to someone else, or once did. Otherwise, kill markings or no, it actually doesn’t make sense why it’s customized at all. One would think he’d just get one of the boring, plain white helmets. Given the circumstances, it didn’t seem to be an appropriate use of time for him to be painting a helmet lol

And I’m a WWII aviation nut too. We’re around. Lol

I was mistaken. It's not Hunters in the Sky I have on VHS. What I have is called Air Power. But I have seen Hunters in the Sky, I just don't remember where or when.

I like to think it's one Leia gave him personally. Part of the visual storytelling that got lost in translation is that the "Rebel Starbird" emblem was the Alderaanian royal crest. The Rebels on Yavin were folks from Alderaan that Bail (and, later, Leia) had recruited into that particular cell. The Tierfon Yellow Aces were an Alderaanian squadron, hence the incorporation of the Alderaanian crest. The ones that just had the raw crest were attached to the royal family more directly. I don't have a problem with the red and yellow mohawk deco. The Republic "sliced-onion" emblem on the sides makes sense. The 'V' symbols are the only ones that don't make sense.

Same here! I wonder if I can get it on DVD? I would love to have my son go through those when he's older. When I was a kid that's how I got a lot of my history. There were a ton of excellent WW2 documentaries, to buy and to watch on TV. (Back when the History Channel was History.) The Color of War, Why We Fight, The Memphis Belle: Story of a B-17, just a few off the top off my head I remember. There were some excellent series hosted by Stephen Ambrose. Oh, and Victory at Sea! That one is amazing! And has a really incredible score. My dad had those on cassette tape. I still listen to the music today! And then there's a really good series that produced in, the 70s, called The World at War. It's often played on the American Heroes channel (formally the Military channel.) That is one of the best series I've seen. Some incredible interviews. The war was still fresh in their memories.

I think when we look at history, particularly WW2, and what went on with the German people it's easy to label one side as the "bad guys" and the other as the "good guys." When history is rarely that black and white. Not everyone that fought for the Germans were Nazi's or Nazi supporters. Many in the army and Luftwaffe we're just patriotic (boy what a position to be in at that time). And many of those pilots were a different type of combatant. Had almost a code of chivalry. I recall when Douglas Bader was shot down. The Germans allowed new legs for him to be dropped off. But be kept trying to escape! So they took his legs from him!

And I don't mind a little detour. Particularly since WW2 was an inspiration for Star Wars. So from a certain point of view;) we're still on topic!

It's so weird, Obi-Wan and Anakin's Eta-2s have tally marks. Like huh? That does seem very Jedi. And it's just droids..... Like cool you've blaster a bunch of machines. Not like you've shot down another living pilot, them possibly being and ace.

Hey, there's a whole lot more of us than you think. My particular foci are the B-17 and ETO clandestine ops.

Cool! Mine are the American Volunteer Group "Flying Tigers" and the Mighty 8th.
That's R.T. Smith of the AVG 3rd Pursuit "Hell's Angels" in my profile pic.

My first love is WW2 aviation. I've logged so many hours on Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulators, 1, 2, and 3. I have well over one hundred die cast airplanes that I've collected in my childhood, most of which are WW2 aircraft.
