I wish my Tractor trailer had that kind of magical space in it when I drove. Including a washroom, shower, galley. Truck stops are dirty soul sucking places.

There is no winning with doing a Falcon interior. No matter what one does, it's wrong or impossible in one way or another. Every approach is as good, and as bad, as another.
Ahh... not quite so. It's sadly no longer up at its original hosting, butthere is an archived version of Robert Brown's old Ship of Riddles essay (and yes, that is actually meant to be a link). The whole thing is a good read -- history of the design, shortcuts taken, errors made, attempts at working with the flawed set... But if you know all those by heart, go ahead and skip up to his conclusion (also meant to be a link).

If you read through the whole thing, go to each page from the contents, rather than the 'next' at the bottom of each page. Some didn't survive to archive. But he took a wonderfully thorough approach to the issues and I agree with his ultimate takeaway -- you have to let go of a literal use of the film set, but aim for something that looks enough like it (while fixing the problems) that most moviegoers won't notice.

I know that site well. But that's my point, if you have to sacrifice literal use of the film set to fix things, then it's still "wrong" from a certain point of view. It's still a compromise. But I agree he did a good job of it.

Well, if the film set doesn't work in the exterior model, which do you feel should take precedence, since they're mutually exclusive? :p

So this makes me wonder, how have they delt with the Falcon in the new films? And Galaxies Edge? Did they not build part of the Falcon's interior with the new films so they could go from outside of the ship and up the ramp unto the craft?

They built a bigger exterior set, but still not full scale, for TFA, reused in TLJ and Solo. It has other problems, too, but I won't go into that here. For the interior, they did their best to faithfully re-create the original set, plus the new rooms, but didn't fix any of the known issues.

For Galaxy's Edge, I have no idea. Just the media announcements so far. No one's measured the ship so say whether it's full scale. No one's walked through it in person to say how they solved the known problems. We'll see this fall.

That's fascinating! How much bigger are we talking? Like 10% or something?

That Vader fan film was terrible. All that money spent and it all takes place in an empty room. Birth of a monster was actually pretty good. It told a short story. A little goofy at points, but none the less had a plot with memorable characters.

Meh. This was nothing more than someone's special effects demo reel. That's sadly what most fan films are. Very few are actually telling a story. They are just a bunch of scenes edited together with no theme. No characters, no plot, no conflict. Making movies, even short films is more than just a collection of effects shots.

All that talent and for what? Why can't people come up with their own stories? People were supposed to be inspired by Star Wars to create their own tales. We're a creative fandom. Aren't we capable of so much more?

For me, these are the best fan films ever made.

Granted, corrected my post :p

Lol. I just have a hard time understanding the appeal of fan films. I get the idea behind them but often they fall flat in my opinion.

I admire the talent involved none the less.

Wherever you are I'm getting you a beer. I thought I was the only person who thought that it was awful. Good camerawork, lighting and mostly good costumes. That's it. Sets, locations are cheap and dialogue is terrible, why do people think that these characters can only recite the same 20 sentences...?
"But maaaaaaan, its awsom cuz Dartvader usd da fors and epik and da red lightsaber is kool and did yu see Dartvader waz epik and caught oll da lazerbolts like bad@ss so kool man, epik am tellin ya!!!!"

Because Star Wars itself is pretty limited. Although short film format I think could work better in small expansions than feature. It's like Stephen King, I very much prefer his short stories to his novels because short stories don't necessarily need a climax and a conclusion, so he has the opportunity to develop an interesting idea but less chance to screw it up like he so often does.

No, I’m referring to the droid with the TIE Pilot-esq. helmet in my post. I’ve never seen any other pictures (or reference to it online generally).

Edit - sorry, I saw Frank’s message below this after posting!

I have a few parts to use for a custom figure of the TIE Droid “thing,” But was hoping for another picture or two!

One other often missed droid is the EV-style one aboard the Star Destroyer bridge. I love that one as well.

Well I've kind of thrown up my hands because no matter what you do you have to compromise. If you like one approach over another, that's totally cool, pick your poison. :)

And Galaxies Edge?

Guests do not board the Falcon prop that's sitting outside in the park. There will be a bit of magic misdirection during the preshow to make it feel like you're doing so, but you're going into Falcon interiors in the show building.

I'll hold you to that! lol :D

I'm impressed with the talent and passion behind fan films, but I just think if you have those why not be your own George Lucas and come up with your own world?

So I probably no the answer to this but.......

Ewok Celebration? or......

Victory Celebration?

Since I grew up with the SE I didn't know anything else until I got piano sheet music for Ewok Celebration. But I prefer the Victory Celebration, it seems to fit better with the saga as a whole.
