I'm kind of torn but I think I got to go with the SE Victory Celebration. I too think it helps with the overall tone. I also like the added scenes on the various planets although that is a different element than the music. But I think it goes better with those scenes.

I like both scores, but I don't care for the special edition footage added and despise Hayden Christensen replacing Sebastian Shaw. I just find the changes too distracting.

From a musical and tone standpoint I think both scores work. I like the original version because it was the one I grew up on, but I do like the new score as it's not quite so cute and more mature.

Probably the best of the SE changes, but I think I still prefer the Ewok celebration.

How about Lapti Nek vs Jedi Rocks?

Lapti neck hands down. Again from a visual standpoint it pulled me right out of the movie, especially when the characters look right at the camera. It was too self aware.

Though I do like the film version of Lapti Neck vs. The one on the soundtrack.

Is the song you posted *which is the original film version * available for purchase anywhere? I have the anthology soundtrack boxed set from the 1990s, but if there is unreleased material from the theatrical cut of the films I'm on board to get them on cd.

I think the original works best for the film (sounds more alien to me) and didn't seem like a musical number inserted in the movie, just part of what was going on in Jabba's palace. Though I wouldn't choose to listen to either one for pleasure! ;)

Yeah, Sy Snootles and the Max Rebo Band had nothing on Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes.

Both are quite awkward

An interesting about that scene. Normally I like puppets over CGI characters. But I think the puppet Sy Snootles looks terrible.

I liked the original ROTJ celebration and the SE version. I prefer Lapti Nek! The SE version gets FF'd if it's on. I'm pretty sure even as a kid I tried to FF the music scene. I liked the band characters though.

I think both the cantina song and lapti neck sound good enough for their respective scenes. I mean I'm not rocking out to either in my car on the way to work but they successfully accomplish setting the atmosphere for the environment.

The Jedi rocks song and cgi are both an abomination and are among the worst of the SE additions. There were some positive changes, but this was not one of them.

Lapti Nek all the way.
The best part of Jedi Rocks is, as soon as the song/dance routine is over it's the next chapter on the disk. So, just before the song starts, I skip to the next chapter. It's probably been over 10 years since I've seen & heard it.
& now that I have the Despecialized OT on BlueRay, I almost never watch the SE.
As far as the Ewok Celebration, I like both.

If you could make a "Choose Your Own Adventure" version of the OT, using both OT & SE. What would you use vs. keeping original. Of course, we'd all choose Han shooting first.... & only (cause he did, & Greedo never saw it comin).
I liked seeing the Millennium Falcon lifting off out Docking Bay 94. & I liked the exterior shot of Cloud City.

I think Harmy's Despecialized Editions pretty much got it right.

I'd get rid of Han talking to Jabba in ANH. And the weird scream they have Obi-Wan do. Also those ROTJ "sandtroopers" ugh, once you see that they are wearing very different armor you can't unsee it.(though in my headcanon I like to think they're regular stormtroopers deployed on Tatooine and they don't have the specialized sandtrooper armor) I'd leave in the the added X-Wing and TIE dogfights. ESB I'd leave. The way they opened up Cloud City, is absolutely beautiful. In ROTJ, I'd remove Vader saying "no" right before he grabs the Emperor.

I just prefer the original cuts, though some of the new shots of the Death Star battle in ANH are spectacular!

Most definitely.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I much prefer most of the '97 SE changes. The Death Star battle is great, Cloud City and the extra shots of Mos Eisley are beautiful, they fixed a lot of jarringly weak effects like the guy walking on the sail barge, and the new ROTJ ending in particular is so much more appropriate than an Ewok party. I think the new music in that scene was perfectly bittersweet.

However, Han shooting second, the ANH Jabba scene, Jedi Rocks, and the weird ANH saber colors are glaring exceptions. And every change for the DVDs and Vader's "NOOO" were awful. Vader screaming NOOO was already a joke in ROTS.

Also, all that stupid Ronto/Jawa crap and dumbass droid hitting the little droid....Leave all that out.

Personally, Adywan's Revisited is the only version of ANH I ever watch anymore. To me, that is the special edition.

I wish I had a dvd of his ESB revisited. Well, actually I do (in fact, I think someone on this board sent it to me), but it will only play on my computer. Can't get it to work in a dvd player. I want to see it on my 70" screen.
