At the very least, shouldn't the next Star Wars director have some appreciation for the fan base that have kept the franchise lucrative for generations? Shouldn't she want to get us excited and hopeful?

"I have a bad feeling about this."

Does she actually believe this is an original idea?

They’ve learned literally nothing. They’re still living in 2016. They will not change, they will not admit failure in any way, and they do not care. They will only continue to double, triple, and quadruple-down on their horrifically bad, divisive, and incompetent ideas.

It’s over.

They killed it.

Learn to let go.

Sorry Guys, I posted this over on the Sequel Trilogy Thread & discovered that the same conversation was going on here:

Chris Gore suggested something & it makes sense, perhaps without any real successes in 2023 & with everyone aware of that South Park Episode, Disney is reconsidering going forward with this project

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is aware of this, possibly heard it through the grapevine, & has decided to publicly remind everyone that she is making this film,....as Chris Gore says, why now?....she made the news about it at SW Celebration,.....and the film is still due for release in 2026

A few weeks ago there were rumours that The Mandalorian Series 4 may become a movie,...and there was talks that it could be in production BEFORE the Rey film, possibly pushing it back in its scedule

It's funny we haven't heard any support of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from Lucasfilm after her appearance on CNN on New Years Eve

Of course it is. All that's left to talk about is the franchise flailing around in mad, floppy circles until it's finally put down.

Its almost like Disney is TRYING to make everyone mad and hate them.....even more.
Maybe they will eventually remember that all their money comes from the fans....

and Disney wonders why this stuff flops…

Just happened to see this on FB. Makes you remember that Star Wars has always had fans no matter the gender, age or whatever.
Disney's agenda to TRY and make it for only woman is kinda dumb...just make a good movie and everyone will enjoy it either way. They already have Rey as the main woman lead....what more are they really trying to do here???

People online keep using this as some kind of defense for the current Lucasfilm/Disney situation. Female fans are awesome, that's not the issue. Most of us welcome them and have no problem. The problem with Lucasfilm is HOW they are incorporating women into the movie whether they are behind the scenes or characters. Their narrative falls apart when you look at how popular all the female EU characters are, how there was zero backlash on previous female characters in the movies, and no backlash against Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow (Obi-Wan Kenobi), or any of the other women involved with SW in the past.

One thing I keep seeing is "but scifi was always woke!!!" It was not. Scifi was progressive. The difference is in the past, let's use Star Trek as an example, they would coat an idea in scifi trappings to make you think about something in a different way. Like that episode of TOS with the black and white faces or the episode with Jadzia on DS9 and her past lover who was a woman. Yeah there are always going to be some people who have a problem, but for normal people, that might change some minds or get people to think about the subject. When people say something is "woke" they are usually talking about where something is forced on the audience because whoever is making it thinks the audience is a bunch of -ists and -phobes who are too ignorant to think on their own. That is why people don't like that stuff.

Such a cluster... Just awful planning and total lack of coherent vision:

As I understand it. Michael(?), JJ, and Lawrence probably came up with a few ideas for Rey. Rey Nobody, Rey Palpatine, or Rey Kenobi. (And there could have been more.) Rey Kenobi seems to have been dropped pretty fast. Rian latched onto Rey Nobody, as well as JJ initially, until he started writing episode 9.

Star Wars Theory just talked with a psychologist about the mentality of the activists who have found their ways in all fandoms. This video is by the Angry Badger, so it includes his view on it too.

At this point I seriously have more faith in Michael Bay's ability to make a slapstick romcom than in another activist director making a mainstream franchise sci-fi space opera.
"We're in 2024 now and I think it's time we had a man shape the story of when Harry met Sally."

Absurd quote right? Not if you represent The Message™.

These videos are absolute gold! Not only is Ben Burtt a brilliant sound designer, but he's an incredible story teller and a repository of film history as well as being personally responsible for a lot of the technologies we all enjoy today- and not just in film. All of the innovators who worked for the Lucasfilm companies in those early days are legendary. We owe them a great deal for their brilliance.

I've said it for years but this video in particular highlights my theory that George Lucas's film legacy isn't Star Wars or Indiana Jones, but the technical innovations he envisioned and invested his money into creating. This series Adam is doing is just stellar.

I dont disagree with this take. I do think Indiana Jones and Star Wars are great franchises with Star Wars notably being the first and only American "fairy tale" which is why I think the story is so beloved and impactful for Americans. I know Japan loves Star Wars but they didnt really care about the special editions changing things or the prequel trilogy "ruining their childhoods" like the audience in the US. I think the impact of what it represents to US audiences is much deeper, hence the higher love but also the higher vitrol if done poorly.

But Lucas is a far better innovator in technology and his overall contribution to film is much more valuable in terms of technology in film. Lucasfilm is the juggernaut that was the leader in a ton of innovations in film and Lucas has been a strong proponent of digital.

Although PT can be criticized as a CGI monstrosity, the practices and mistakes made when shooting PT likely also helped create many of the movies we love now that may not have been possible without PT paving the path. Apparently, Lucasfilm was also working on a new camera/shooting technology that was used in Mandolorean before Lucas left.

BTW, just finished watching Battle Beyond The Stars. Not bad for an attempt at Roger Corman to riff on Star Wars.

Look, it's not 2017 anymore. Everybody's opinions are formed. This activist director is gonna cost Disney thousands of SW viewers that they already don't have.

Disney is clearly fine with this entire state of affairs. (2023 was a banger year for them, didn't you notice?)

Disney's stockholders are not bothered enough to sell all their shares.

What's the problem?
