The BIG problem with SW that I find is, that people take it so seriously.

In essence at the very beginning, the story/movie ANH was designed for children at an understanding level of about 12 years old, George has even said this in interviews.

The first film is really a wacky, corny action film you'd see on a Saturday afternoon at your local cinema.

Of course it has some really cool and interesting themes and visuals, but at it's heart it is a kids adventure.

Doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it and we all do. I saw ANH when I was 12 years old in 1977 and it blew my mind, but it was basically taking a set adventure (like a western or a war story) and setting it in space, which at the time was perfect.

Many are so disappointed with the prequels and sequels and it's true some of all that is challenging, but compared to the OT, they're all on par.

Watch them all from an analytical adult perspective and some of the joy is lost for sure...see them as the wacky, corny adventures THEY all are and they not bad amusement rides.

Just my 10 cents worth.....

Don't you guys know the rules?

No woman has never had a substantial role/job/contribution in Hollywood before. Whoever does it in 2024 is the first one.

And when it happens again in 2025, the 2024 example will be retconned out. The latest example becomes the first time.

Every time is always the first time. That's how it works now.

Exactly. It reminds me of that one time when...

Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on the upcoming New Jedi Order movie “I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special. And we’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

I guess Bryce Dallas Howard and Deborah Chow did nothing to help shape the galaxy?
maybe its time for women to stop asking for a handout and earn their way into sci-fi, this force is female idea is ridiculous and an attack on 50% of the population, reality is some things men are better at than women, ie Football, F-1 racing etc.

It's like the WNBA opened up a film studio.

If that was dialogue in a novel any editor worth his salt would have told the author it was too on the nose and to dial it back. So, uh, good job.

I think everyone should take a step back and remember that it is a well-known fact that in the age of social media, things that make people offended, upset, angry, or react negatively are 10x more likely to generate clicks…

Consider that fact when you can’t seem to understand why media and entertainment companies would make choices or push stories that would seem to upset or even infuriate fans and why the perception may be that things are so much worse than they were, years ago

Case in point….

Search YouTube for “Star Wars Director”and see what you find.

These videos are absolute gold! Not only is Ben Burtt a brilliant sound designer, but he's an incredible story teller and a repository of film history as well as being personally responsible for a lot of the technologies we all enjoy today- and not just in film. All of the innovators who worked for the Lucasfilm companies in those early days are legendary. We owe them a great deal for their brilliance.

I've said it for years but this video in particular highlights my theory that George Lucas's film legacy isn't Star Wars or Indiana Jones, but the technical innovations he envisioned and invested his money into creating. This series Adam is doing is just stellar.

I had mentioned this in the Return of the Jedi back in theaters thread...about how I took my parents to see the film last year and was currently redoing a kitchen, and back in 1983 my parents had taken me, not quite two years old. My Dad was sure it was that year they were redoing their kitchen at the time.
Well, my Mom was just going through old paperwork and found the invoice.
3/31/83
So yep, just thought that was kinda cool.
The circle is complete....guess I'm now the master.

At the very least, shouldn't the next Star Wars director have some appreciation for the fan base that have kept the franchise lucrative for generations? Shouldn't she want to get us excited and hopeful?

"I have a bad feeling about this."

Does she actually believe this is an original idea?
