Fans speculate on a beloved property because the latest official offering is a book with a literal rock for a character and they're the ones who should feel ashamed?

I didn't say anything about fans speculating about actual SW content. I'm talking about the gossip, the passing of unsubstantiated rumors as fact, and the underlying tones it all carries. I suspect you knew this yet made a clumsy attempt to deflect from it anyway. And yes, the people who engage in that sort of behavior should feel ashamed.

Speculation by its very definition is based on limited information. So you're essentially saying fans shouldn't engage in speculation and should feel ashamed for it.

Ok. Fine. You want to play that game? Go ahead. I think it was perfectly clear what sort of gossiping and rumor mongering I was talking about, but if you want to believe it had to do with movies, shows, and books then alright. You want to engage in some bad faith arguments its not going to be with me. Have fun playing with yourself.

You can argue that some toxic fans and the accusations of Star Wars fans being misogynistic have made it near impossible to fire Kennedy from an optics standpoint..
I think that's more than just optics, it's probably a contract issue too. Specifically, a likely clause in her contract that states if she gets let out her contract early (aka fired) she gets a hefty paycheck. So, if firing KK will make them look bad and cost them money, they're going to keep her until her contract runs out. Then they can simply not renew her contract and part ways, although she'll still probably collect a golden parachute.

I dont know but the fact that its more interesting to discuss a potential power struggle within LucasFilms rather than the new content in the next Star Wars may be more telling about where the franchise is at.

this kind of discussion isnt unique to Star Wars. Look at Game of Thrones. First it was all theories of R+L=J, Cleganebowl, who the Valonquar is. Now its all about D&D and what was going on regarding production that allowed them to screw up the last couple of seasons as badly as they did. Its no coincidence that this also coincides with the ending of the franchise on a poor note.

Yeah that golden parachute is always going to be there once you get to that level. Well, we will see this year since 2021 is when her contract is going to end. It seems fans are putting their hopes in Filoni and Favreau but I really wonder what they can do. I really dont think an ST redo/reset is realistic despite the “veil of the force” from a lore or real world perspective

Lore
from my understanding of a video about it, its more like a 4th plane of existence outside time and space that the force user can travel through and go into, possibly altering events.

Time travel is always murky so assuming stable timeline, the ST did happen although offscreen deaths can be retconned. If the timeline is not stable, this can open a can of worms (also it seems the portals are for fixed points in time. Why these points? Or are there infinite portals?). Can obi wan go back to save Qui Gon (who would have been the better teacher for Anakin)? Anakin save his mom? Luke save his aunt and uncle? Could cheapen death which was a big factor and teacher in Star Wars.

Real world
This is going to be really hard to manage because of casual fans and the split in the fandom.

casual fans would have no idea about the veil and “oh a time travel retcon” maybe seen as a tired trope. It would also make fans confused (so which episode 7 is the real one i need to watch?). To be fair, in the age of youtube and the internet, a casual fan can just search explain this to me and can get 100 answers although it depends on if the casual does the search.

We also have to recognize that as unrealistic as it is from our perspective, there are fans of the ST and they will be pissed if the ST is rewritten/decanonized and will be poisoned against the new ST. It would be an uphill battle comparing the STs and further divisions if the new ST doesnt meet what the non-ST fans want.

I do think Star Wars on its current trajectory is pretty dead like the Terminator franchise (another one i like but pretty much let go). If the rumor of the reset is true, it gives me hope but i really dont think its as easy as people make it out to be.

Forbes wrote up an entire article defending everyone's favorite stone, Geode. I swear this just gets more and more laughable with each passing day. Written by a freelance geologist, no less. I can't. I'm going to get a hernia from laughing so hard. He even cited other notable rock "characters" in fiction in an attempt to legitimize the concept. Oh my stomach. I mean you can do just about anything in fiction, to be sure, but this is just rife with possibilities for humor.

I’d still bet money that Kennedy’s not going anywhere any time soon.

Today’s shareholder call makes that seem like a safe bet.

Chapek’s response that Kennedy will be working with Lucasfilm for years to come? I agree Kennedy may get her contract renewed (but probably a shorter contract) but she is on thin ice and it is crunch time for Lucasfilm.

Did some quick research on Chapek and he seems to be a cost-cutter. He tries to cut costs when possible such as the lower maintenance frequency for Disney Parks and the smaller Galaxy’s Edge being his handiwork. He also has taken a key interest in streaming with Disney+.

Now we know that the big draws for Disney+ is new Marvel and Star Wars content (yes there are Disney films and shows but they arnt updated as frequently so arnt the focus for getting a subscription).
I dont think its coincidence that both Marvel and Star Wars announced several tv series for Disney+. I have a feeling that Chapek is going to be watching the numbers for the shows and cutting the ones that dont perform well.

Marvel has the advantage here. They have been consistent in terms of entertainment quality and with the MCU, fans are incentivized to watch all the tv shows to get the lore (also doesnt hurt that it doesnt cost extra). Star Wars doesnt have that luxury and the offerings honestly arnt that impressive in comparison. Star Wars shows may get cut down and if too many flop, I dont think Lucasfilm staff will be safe.

So a fantasy universe had added a type of life form that looks like a rock. This bad how?

I also love how Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm gets all the focus. Yet nobody talks about the two previous presidents.

People in the industry constantly say things they don't mean. Lucasfilm can BS PR hype itself to death but fans can't speculate about what's going on behind the scenes? Ok lol.

I have no idea what's going on at Lucasfilm behind the scenes, never claimed to. However if others want to speculate in detail about what is and isn't happening, go for it. Sometimes the people who are labeled as wearing tin foil hats end up being right.

We all know the content that the current leadership is producing and are familiar with how Lucasfilm and Disney outwardly function, which are enough for many to want significant change starting with KK.

At least there's still Dune and Warhammer 40k franchises to still look forward to hopefully taking off in the TV and film medium. Disney seems content to hemorrhage money on Star Wars and at this point, I don't believe that they will even recoup their initial expenditure on the IP.

I was under the impression that Disney made back the initial $4 billion years ago, no? (Quick google search would seem to indicate it happened in 2018, unless I’m missing something here.)
